If the repeated clip is coming from an OBS playlist, check the source’s repeat setting and remove any duplicate playlist entries. For an OBS VLC Video Source, turn off Loop Playlist to stop the list restarting after its last item; for a single Media Source, turn off Loop to prevent that file replaying. These playback changes stop repetition, but they do not grant permission to stream copyrighted material.
Find which source is playing the segment
- In OBS, identify the scene active when the segment repeats.
- In the Sources list, select the media source feeding the clip. OBS Media Sources play media files; a VLC Video Source can play a playlist when VLC is installed. If you cannot tell which source is responsible, hide likely sources one at a time while previewing the scene, then restore the intended sources. See OBS’s Sources Guide and Media Sources.
Stop an OBS VLC playlist from starting over
- Open the VLC Video Source’s properties.
- Inspect the playlist entries and order. Remove unintended duplicate file paths or URLs; a repeated entry can make a segment play twice even when the list itself is not looping.
- Turn off Loop Playlist if the playlist should end after its final item. OBS documents this option as on by default.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off unless you want randomized playback. It is off by default and changes ordering; it does not remove duplicate entries.
Stop a single OBS media file from replaying
If the segment comes from a single Media Source rather than a VLC playlist, open that source’s properties and turn off Loop. OBS documents this control as off by default. Also consider whether the source is restarting when it becomes active: OBS documents restart behavior for a source becoming active, so scene or visibility changes can cause playback to begin again without the file’s Loop option being enabled.
Test the sequence before going live
Preview the scene or make a short recording and let the relevant playback reach the point where the segment used to repeat. Check the order, transitions, and behavior after the last item. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing settings before streaming; a preview or recording helps catch a remaining duplicate or restart before viewers see it.
Check copyright permission separately
A loop setting controls playback, not rights. If the segment includes third-party material, stop using it until you have confirmed that your permission covers the planned use. Check whether the permission covers livestreaming and, if you will keep an archive or VOD, that use too. Territory and duration may also matter under the terms you were granted.

YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. If detected material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed material can cause an interruption if the channel has not been added to the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. Confirm the required allowlisting process with the rights owner; a license alone may not prevent an automated interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
If you stream on Twitch, Twitch says streamers are responsible for ensuring they have the rights to livestream or store copyrighted material. VOD storage settings and a rerun label are management or disclosure controls, not evidence that you have permission. See Twitch’s DMCA and Copyright FAQs and On-Demand Content guidance.
