To play video files in a random order on YouTube with vMix, add them to a List input, use its Randomise or Shuffle control, and leave Auto Next on. Enable Loop if the list should start over after its last video. Then stream the vMix production to YouTube. The shuffle is configured in vMix—not in YouTube.
Shuffle videos with a vMix List input
- Add a List input. In vMix, add a List input and load the video files you want to play. A List treats the files as one input; M3U files are also supported. See the vMix User Guide: Video List.
- Randomize the order. Open the List editing controls and choose Randomise (also referred to as Shuffle). This shuffles the list order. The documentation does not promise a fresh random selection every time a video plays.
- Set automatic playback. Keep Auto Next enabled so vMix advances to the next item. It is enabled by default according to the vMix user guide.
- Choose whether to repeat. Enable Loop if playback should return to the start after the final item. Without looping, the list does not begin another pass automatically.
- Send the production to YouTube. Use vMix’s streaming destination controls to configure YouTube as the destination and start the stream. The List controls determine local playback order; YouTube is the separate streaming destination. vMix lists YouTube as a supported destination on its official product homepage.
Control placement and labels can vary by version. The detailed List guide linked above is for vMix 27; the official homepage observed in October 2026 promotes vMix 29. If your layout differs, check the help for your installed version.
List and PlayList are different features
Despite the similar names, the two vMix features do different jobs:

| List | Loads video files as one input and provides the randomize control. | Use it for a shuffled sequence of video files. |
| PlayList | Automates switching between inputs; a List can be used inside a standard PlayList. | Add it when you need more advanced input switching or automation, not simply to shuffle video files. |

Random looping is not a broadcast schedule
A List can play videos back to back, shuffle their order, and loop. That does not schedule particular videos for particular times of day. The vMix knowledge-base article says vMix does not provide time-of-day scheduling. It also notes that the older third-party project called vMix Scheduler was no longer maintained and might not work with current versions when the article was updated in January 2025, so it should not be treated as a verified current solution.
