To keep an open-house tour playing on YouTube all day, send it to YouTube Live through an encoder and configure the feed to loop or play a playlist. You can run the encoder on a computer you maintain, or use cloud playout so playback does not depend on a computer and internet connection at the property. Before scheduling, confirm channel eligibility, test stream settings, clear rights to every audio and video element, and plan separately for the replay: YouTube may not archive a broadcast longer than 12 hours.
Choose where the continuous feed will run
A regular YouTube upload is not a continuous live broadcast. For a live tour, an encoder sends the prerecorded video to YouTube as a live feed. YouTube describes an encoder as software or standalone hardware; its guidance also lists a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. A YouTube listing is not an endorsement of every provider.
| Decision | Local software encoder | Cloud playout |
|---|---|---|
| Where playback runs | On a computer you maintain | On a remote service |
| What must remain available | The computer, encoder process, and network connection | The service, account connection, source files, and network/platform access |
| Best fit | You want direct control and can maintain and monitor the setup | You want playback to run remotely and have checked the provider’s playlist and recovery features |
| Replay limits | YouTube’s archive and DVR limits still apply | Cloud operation does not change YouTube’s archive and DVR limits |
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports using an encoder but does not state the cost of third-party software. Check a provider’s current pricing and terms directly, and do not assume a continuous broadcast guarantees discovery, leads, or uninterrupted availability.
Prepare the channel and tour footage
Check live-stream eligibility first
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so activate and verify access before the planned tour. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio.

Review permissions and rights
Confirm that you have permission to show the property and any people, artwork, or other material appearing in the footage. Local property, occupant, and jurisdiction-specific release requirements depend on the circumstances; confirm them with the property owner and relevant professionals.
YouTube scans live video for third-party material. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Review footage, music, narration, graphics, and third-party clips. A license alone may not prevent a match from disrupting a live feed: the rights holder may also need to allowlist your channel through Content ID.

Make a loop or playlist
Choose the tour recording or arrange the recordings in the order you want viewers to see them. Check that the files play through cleanly, have appropriate audio, and do not reveal information you should not publish. Set up looping or playlist playback in your encoder or cloud playout service; exact controls depend on the product you choose.
Set up and start the YouTube Live feed
- Schedule or create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Follow the current live-stream creation flow and set the title, visibility, and other details for the listing. If you are testing, use an appropriate visibility setting before announcing the broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder. YouTube uses the key to identify the destination and accept the encoder’s feed. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Configure the video feed. Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; do not set keyframes more than four seconds apart. Choose resolution and bitrate using YouTube’s published resolution-specific recommendations and the stability of your upload connection.
- Preview and test before going public. Start the encoder or cloud feed, confirm that YouTube receives it, and check the Studio preview and stream health before starting the public broadcast. Test with movement and audio similar to the finished property tour; a static test image may not reveal problems that appear in a moving walkthrough.
- Confirm loop behavior and monitor the start. Verify that the selected video or playlist advances and repeats as intended. Watch the stream health indicators and confirm playback from a viewer’s perspective before leaving the setup unattended.
For bitrate ranges and other current encoder settings, use YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. YouTube’s encoder overview explains the role of the encoder and stream key in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Plan for replays and viewer rewind
YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. Streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on a long continuous broadcast to leave a replay. If you need a retained copy, record the tour locally as well.
DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers also cannot seek to a point before the live stream began. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance and DVR settings and limitations before deciding how long to keep the broadcast running.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Verify the channel and check whether it has had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- YouTube receives no feed: Confirm that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current key, and that the feed is running. If the key was reset or exposed, update the encoder with the replacement.
- The preview buffers or stream health is poor: Check upload stability and bring the resolution or bitrate into line with YouTube’s recommendations for the selected resolution. Confirm constant bitrate and the recommended two-second keyframe interval, with no interval over four seconds.
- The broadcast is interrupted or replaced: Check for third-party matches across video and audio, including music, narration, graphics, and clips. Resolve rights issues and, where applicable, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting.
- The replay is missing or viewers cannot rewind: Check whether the broadcast exceeded 12 hours. YouTube may not archive streams over that duration, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. Keep a separate recording when retention matters.
- The tour stops repeating: Confirm loop or playlist settings in the encoder or service and check that the source files remain available. If running locally, also check that the computer, encoder process, and network have stayed available.
