Want to share a link to a song? Use Apple Music’s Share Song option. Want the song to play while people watch your Story? Add it with Instagram or Facebook’s own Music tool instead. An Apple Music link points viewers to the track; it does not automatically put Apple Music audio into the Story.
Share an Apple Music song to an Instagram Story
- Open Apple Music on your phone and find the song.
- Tap the More (…) button beside the song or on its screen, then tap Share Song or Share.
- Choose Instagram in the share sheet. If Instagram offers a destination, select Story.
- Edit the Story and publish it.
Apple documents sharing Apple Music content to social apps including Instagram, though its current iPhone instructions illustrate the share-sheet process with a playlist. The individual-song route follows the same general sharing workflow; the exact handoff and available Story option can vary by app version, device, account, and country. Apple’s iPhone sharing instructions note that the target app must be installed and that social sharing is not available in every country or region.
A shared Apple Music item is a link or preview, not embedded Apple Music playback. When someone taps it, the item can open in Apple Music on the web, where they can play it or add it to their library; whether they can listen may depend on their access to Apple Music. If Instagram is missing from the share sheet
- Check that Instagram is installed and that you are signed in.
- In the iPhone share sheet, swipe through the app row and tap More to see whether Instagram is available or hidden from the list.
- Use Apple Music’s Copy or Copy Link option. Start a Story in Instagram, add your image or video, then use the Link sticker to add the song URL.
- If the controls still do not appear, update the apps and iOS. Apple does not promise the same direct-share destination in every region or configuration.
You can also make a Story with suitable artwork or another image, add the song title and artist as text, and attach the Apple Music link. The image itself does not contain the song’s audio.

Share an Apple Music song to a Facebook Story
- In Apple Music, open the song or find it in a list.
- Tap More (…) → Share Song (or Share).
- Choose Facebook. If Facebook offers a Story destination, select Your Story or the equivalent option, then edit and publish.
Facebook’s composer and destination choices can change, and a direct Story option may not appear for everyone. If it does not, choose Copy Link, create a Facebook Story in the Facebook mobile app, and add the link if that option is available. Apple’s Music web guide describes sharing songs and other items to Facebook or copying a link. A link takes viewers to the Apple Music item; it does not, by itself, make the track play inside Facebook.
Make the song play inside the Story
For in-Story audio, search for the track in the platform where you are making the Story. That uses Meta’s music catalog and licensing, not audio streamed from the Apple Music app.

- Start a new Story in Instagram and add a photo, video, or background.
- Tap Stickers, then Music.
- Search by song title or artist and select the track if it is available.
- Choose the clip and display style. Lyrics, cover art, and other styles may be available for some tracks.
- Publish the Story.
Meta says its licensed music library is intended for personal, non-commercial use. Access can vary by country or region, account type, and content type; business accounts may have a more limited selection. Meta’s music-library guidance also describes Sound Collection as a royalty-free option for commercial uses such as ads. It may not include the specific Apple Music track you want.

- In the Facebook mobile app, tap Create story and add or take a photo or video.
- Tap Music or Stickers → Music, depending on the composer shown.
- Search for the song, select it, choose a clip and display style, then share the Story.
Meta says this feature may not be available to everyone. For a Facebook Page Story, the documented workflow is through the Facebook mobile app, and you need to be a Page admin or editor. Page and business use can be subject to different music restrictions; see Meta’s instructions for personal Story music and Page Story music.

Share one Story to both Instagram and Facebook
Connect the accounts through Meta’s Accounts Center, then use the sharing option in the Story composer. For example, create the Story on Instagram and enable Share your story to Facebook before publishing, if that option is available. Facebook may also offer a Share story to Instagram option. Meta documents these cross-posting options for supported mobile devices and account configurations: Instagram Stories to Facebook and Facebook Stories to Instagram.
Cross-posting does not guarantee identical music playback on both services. Catalog access and rights can differ between Instagram and Facebook, and a Story’s visibility depends on the applicable privacy settings. Facebook Stories are generally visible for 24 hours, subject to Story settings, and may also appear in Feed or Messenger. Meta explains Story visibility and sharing.

Apple Music link or native Story music?

Fix common problems
The Apple Music link posts, but no music plays
That is expected: the link directs viewers to Apple Music and does not transfer the stream into the Story. To have music play in the Story, select the track through Instagram’s or Facebook’s own Music tool.

The track may not be in Meta’s catalog, may have different rights in your region, or may be unavailable for your account type or content. Catalogs and restrictions can differ between the two services. If you are posting for a business, branded campaign, or ad, do not assume that a song available for personal use is cleared for commercial use; check the platform’s guidance and consider Sound Collection where appropriate.

The Story is muted or blocked after posting
Music rights can change, and audio availability may differ on the service receiving a cross-post. Meta warns that Facebook may mute or block a Story if rights change after music is added. Replace the audio with a track available in that platform’s library or use a suitable option from Meta Sound Collection for commercial content. Meta’s Facebook Story music guidance covers this limitation.
The Music sticker or share option is missing
Menu names and features vary by device, app version, account, and region, and there is no universal minimum app version established in the cited help pages. Update the apps, check whether the feature is available to your account, and try the mobile app. If Apple Music’s social destination is missing, copy the song link and add it manually to a Story instead.
Can you share from a computer?
Apple Music on the web supports sharing music to Facebook and copying links or embed code, but Apple’s web instructions do not document an Instagram Story publishing workflow. For Stories, use the mobile apps; on desktop, copying the song link is the practical fallback. Apple Music web sharing explains the available link options.
