To share a Spotify playlist, open it, select the three-dot menu, choose Share, then pick a messaging app or Copy link. If you want friends to change the playlist, choose Invite collaborators instead. Spotify’s menu labels and icons can vary slightly by device and app version.
Share a playlist from your phone
- Open Spotify and go to Your Library.
- Open the playlist you want to send.
- Tap its three-dot menu. On iPhone and iPad the dots are typically horizontal; on Android they are typically vertical.
- Tap Share.
- Choose a messaging or social app, or tap Copy link and paste the link wherever you want to send it.
The apps shown depend on your device and which apps are installed. Spotify’s sharing instructions cover the mobile and desktop options.

On mobile, you can also choose Show Spotify Code to display a scannable code for the playlist.
Share from desktop or the web player
- Open the playlist in Spotify’s desktop app or web player.
- Right-click the playlist or select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Share.
- Select Copy link to send the URL, or Copy embed code to place a Spotify player on a website.
A normal link is the simplest option for a message, email, or post. An embed is useful for a page that accepts embedded content; some website builders block or remove embed code, in which case use the playlist link instead. An embed does not guarantee automatic playback, which can depend on the visitor’s browser, device, and Spotify access.

Share a private playlist
You can share a private playlist with selected people without making it broadly visible. Open the playlist menu, choose Share, then send it through an app or copy its link. Spotify says links shared from private playlists expire after seven days, so send a new one if the recipient’s link no longer works. A private setting also means an old link may stop working if the playlist’s access or privacy changes. See Spotify’s current guidance on playlist privacy and access.
A recipient may be able to play, follow, and share a playlist once access is granted; private sharing should not be treated as a permanent, sealed invitation. The recipient may be asked to open Spotify and sign in or create an account. Playback can vary by country, device, account, and track availability.
Let friends edit the playlist
Ordinary Share is for giving someone access to the playlist. To let them change it, use Invite collaborators:

- Open the playlist and select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Invite collaborators.
- Send the generated invitation link to the people you want to contribute.
Spotify says collaborators can add, remove, and reorder tracks. Private-playlist collaboration links are valid for seven days. Use a fresh collaboration invitation—not an ordinary playlist link—if someone needs editing access. Details are in Spotify’s collaborative playlist guidance.
Remove a collaborator
On mobile, tap the profile pictures beneath the playlist name, open the three-dot menu beside the collaborator, and choose Remove as collaborator. On desktop, open the profile pictures beneath the playlist name, select the arrow beside the person’s name, and remove them. Menu presentation can vary by version.
Make a playlist public or show it on your profile
To change a private playlist to public, open its three-dot menu and choose Make public. Spotify says new playlists are public by default, though settings and product behavior can change. Making a playlist public and displaying it on your profile are separate controls:

- Public/private controls playlist visibility and access.
- Add to profile or Remove from profile controls whether the playlist appears on your profile.
Look for Add to profile or Remove from profile in the playlist menu on mobile, desktop, or the web player. A public playlist may not appear on your profile unless it is added there. Spotify explains these profile controls in its playlist publishing guidance.

To display a code on your phone, open the playlist, tap the three-dot menu, then choose Show Spotify Code. You can let someone scan the screen or take a screenshot and send it. To scan a code inside Spotify, open Search, tap the search bar, tap the camera icon, choose Scan, and point the camera at the code. Spotify needs camera permission to scan it. The code does not bypass playlist privacy or access controls; if it fails, send the ordinary playlist link instead. Spotify documents the code and scanning flow on its sharing help page.
Embed a playlist on a website
In the desktop app or web player, open the playlist menu (or right-click the playlist), choose Share, then select Copy embed code. Paste the code into a website editor that accepts embeds. If the site strips the code, share a normal playlist link. A private playlist may not be available to general website visitors, so use a public playlist if you want broad access.

Choose the right sharing method

Troubleshooting playlist sharing
The recipient says the playlist is unavailable
Check whether the playlist is private, whether a private link has passed its seven-day validity period, and whether you sent a listening link when they need a collaboration invitation. Also check that the link was copied in full, the playlist still exists, and the recipient is signed into the intended Spotify account. Ask them to open the link in Spotify or a current browser. These are practical checks; access can also vary with account, device, and track availability.
The recipient can listen but cannot edit
That is expected if you used ordinary Share. Open the playlist menu and send an Invite collaborators link instead. If the playlist is collaborative, remember that collaborators can change its track list.
The playlist is public but missing from my profile
Public status does not automatically mean the playlist is displayed on your profile. Open its menu and choose Add to profile if that option appears.

The Spotify Code will not scan
Show the entire code without cropping, reduce glare, and try better lighting. Scan it through Spotify’s in-app camera flow rather than a generic QR scanner, and check Spotify’s camera permission in your device settings. If it still fails, share the playlist link.
I cannot find the same menu options
Check that you opened the playlist’s menu, not a track’s menu. The layout and available options differ across iPhone, Android, desktop, and web player, and can change with app updates. Right-clicking the playlist is an alternative on desktop and web.
You do not need to upgrade to share a playlist link: Spotify’s sharing guidance does not list Premium as a requirement. Premium may affect listening features, but it is not necessary just to send a playlist.
