You can select a Premiere or another channel’s livestream. YouTube’s published instructions do not specifically guarantee that these controls are available for every 24/7 prerecorded encoder setup, so confirm the setting appears on your source stream before relying on the handoff.
What Live Redirect does—and what it does not guarantee
Live Redirect is an end-of-stream handoff. You configure a destination, then when your source livestream ends, YouTube is intended to move viewers to the selected Premiere or livestream. YouTube’s Help page says, “Once your live stream ends, autoplay will move your viewers to the Premiere or live stream of your choice.” YouTube Help: How to use YouTube Live Redirect
For a 24/7 pre-recorded stream, the key qualification is that YouTube documents encoder streaming and Live Redirect, but does not explicitly promise that every prerecorded 24/7 stream or encoder configuration supports the same redirect controls. Check your own source stream in Studio or Live Control Room before planning a handoff around it.
Check eligibility and destination access
- Sending channel: YouTube Help says the channel setting up the redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
- Destination: You may choose a Premiere or another channel’s livestream. To send viewers to another creator’s live stream, that creator must allow your channel to redirect to it.
- Format: YouTube’s feature comparison lists Live Redirect for horizontal livestreams, not vertical live feeds. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
If the destination is another channel’s livestream and it is not offered in the selector, check that channel’s redirect permissions and confirm it has an active or upcoming livestream or Premiere. Set up Live Redirect in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Open the Live tab.
- Find the source livestream, hover over it, and select Edit.
- Open Customization.
- Under Redirect, select Add.
- Choose an eligible Premiere or search for another channel’s livestream, then save if YouTube prompts you.
YouTube also documents configuring Live Redirect from Live Control Room. The exact appearance of controls can vary as Studio changes; a Google setup illustration from November 2020 may show older labels, so prefer the current Studio wording when it differs. End the source stream and prepare viewers for the handoff
When you end the source stream, YouTube attempts the configured handoff. Tell viewers in advance that the destination may take a few seconds to load. Viewers who have autoplay disabled may need to click Play themselves, as TeamYouTube has clarified. Do not promise that every viewer will be transferred without an action.

Troubleshoot missing settings or a failed redirect
- No Redirect control: Recheck channel eligibility and open the source stream’s Customization settings. If it is a 24/7 prerecorded encoder stream and the control is absent, YouTube’s published materials do not establish universal support for that configuration; verify directly in the account’s Live Control Room rather than assuming a workaround.
- No destination appears: For another creator’s stream, ask them to permit redirects from your channel. Confirm that the destination is an active or upcoming livestream or Premiere.
- Vertical stream: Live Redirect is not listed as available for vertical live feeds. Use a horizontal source if redirect is required.
- Viewers stay on the source or see no automatic playback: The viewer’s autoplay setting can affect the handoff. Tell viewers they may need to click Play.
- Controls look different: Use the current Studio path, Content > Live > Edit > Customization; older setup illustrations may reflect an earlier interface.
