The right way to add it depends on whether you use Streamlabs Desktop, OBS with the Streamlabs plugin, or another app.
1. Link your streaming account if needed
If you use Streamlabs across multiple platforms, link the relevant accounts first. Open the profile menu, choose Account Settings, select Platforms, and use the merge option for the platform you want to connect. Streamlabs recommends linking accounts when streaming on multiple platforms. Streamlabs’ quick guide and detailed setup guide cover this step.
2. Open the Alert Box settings
In the Streamlabs dashboard, use the left navigation to open Streaming essentials > Alert Box. This is where you configure event alerts before adding the widget to your streaming software.
3. Set alert behavior and moderation
Choose whether to add an alert delay or require moderation before alerts appear. Streamlabs’ quick guide recommends a delay of 2–5 seconds; treat this as a configuration recommendation, not a required setting. Alert Moderation holds alerts for approval, while Unlimited moderation gives you more time to approve an alert than regular moderation.

4. Customize each event alert
Select the platform and event you want to edit, such as follows or subscriptions. You can change the event’s image or sound, and turn an event off with its Enabled toggle. If you want different alerts for different circumstances, add a variation and set the condition that triggers it. Save your settings before moving to another menu item.
Use the event’s Enabled toggle to disable it across integration types. The Filter Events menu has a narrower effect: it applies to Widget URLs added as browser sources, not to Alert Box sources in Streamlabs Desktop or the Streamlabs OBS plugin.

5. Add the Alert Box to your streaming software
Pick the method that matches your software. Do not add a browser source if your software has the appropriate native integration and you intend to use that instead.
Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Sources and click the plus button.
- Choose Alert Box and add the source to your scene.
OBS with the Streamlabs plugin
- Open Streamlabs in OBS.
- Choose Widgets > Alert Box and add it.
- Repeat for each scene that needs the widget.
OBS without the plugin, or another streaming app
- Copy the Widget URL from the Streamlabs dashboard.
- In your streaming software, add a browser source and use that URL.
- Use the dashboard’s Filter Events menu if you need to filter events for this browser-source setup.
6. Test alerts before going live
Use the dashboard’s test menu to trigger a basic alert. To check a specific variation, use Test Variation on that variation. Streamlabs also documents test controls in Streamlabs Desktop and the OBS plugin. Confirm that the alert appears in the intended scene and that its sound and visual assets work as expected.

Cost and optional designs
Streamlabs says Alert Box is free for all users. You can use provided designs and sounds or upload your own assets; Streamlabs describes Ultra as an optional upgrade for access to its full library, not a requirement for setting up alerts. See Streamlabs Alert Box for its product information.
