To loop a fireplace clip and its sound into a one-hour file, use FFmpeg’s input option -stream_loop -1 before the input’s -i, then set the finished duration with -t. If the picture and sound are separate files, loop each input and map the video and audio streams explicitly.
Loop a video that already contains audio
For a one-hour MP4 export, start with:
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i fireplace.mp4 -t 01:00:00 -c:v libx264 -preset medium -crf 23 -c:a aac -b:a 192k fireplace-loop.mp4Replace fireplace.mp4 with your input filename and change 01:00:00 to the desired duration. The output will be named fireplace-loop.mp4.
-stream_loop -1loops the input indefinitely. It is an input option, so put it before the-iit controls. FFmpeg defines0as no looping and-1as infinite looping (FFmpeg command-line documentation).-t 01:00:00limits the output to one hour. Because it appears after the input and before the output filename, it acts as an output duration limit (FFmpeg command-line documentation).-c:v libx264and-c:a aacselect video and audio encoders;-preset medium,-crf 23, and-b:a 192kare example encoding settings, not a universal quality guarantee. Your FFmpeg build must include the selected encoders, and the result must suit your intended player.
For playback that should continue until you stop the process, omit -t. The command’s looping behavior does not provide a streaming destination or credentials; those depend on the platform and its current ingest requirements.
Loop separate fireplace video and audio files
If the picture and crackling-fire sound are separate inputs, loop both and select the intended streams:

fireplace-loop.mp4Each -stream_loop -1 applies to the next input, so each file needs its own option. -map 0:v:0 selects the first video stream from the first input; -map 1:a:0 selects the first audio stream from the second. Explicit mapping helps avoid FFmpeg choosing a different stream when an input contains multiple candidates (FFmpeg command-line documentation).
The inputs can have different durations or formats. The one-hour -t still gives the output a definite end even though the inputs loop indefinitely. Repeating files does not guarantee a seamless transition: listen for clicks or silence and inspect the picture for a jump at the join. If the source seam is rough, use a better source or edit/crossfade it before looping.

Choose looping, duration, and encoding options
Infinite playback or a fixed-length export
Use -stream_loop -1 when an input should repeat without an input-side end. Add output-side -t when you want a file of a specified duration. -shortest ends output when the shortest output stream ends; it is not a useful finite stopping condition when all relevant inputs loop indefinitely. Set -t explicitly for a timed export (FFmpeg command-line documentation).
Input looping or the video loop filter
The video loop filter repeats video frames, and its loop=-1 setting is documented as infinite. It operates on video frames; it does not, by itself, loop the audio. For a normal file with paired picture and sound, input-level -stream_loop is the simpler starting point (FFmpeg filter documentation).

Stream copy or re-encoding
FFmpeg’s -c copy can pass streams through without re-encoding, but stream-copy output depends on codec and container compatibility and on the operation being performed. The example commands re-encode to H.264 video and AAC audio instead; check that your installed FFmpeg supports those encoders and that your target player accepts the resulting file (FFmpeg command-line documentation).
If your source is several segments
Looping one reusable clip is different from joining a sequence of distinct segments. For joining, FFmpeg’s FAQ describes the concat filter when re-encoding is needed and the concat demuxer as an option when avoiding re-encoding. Choose the concat approach for a sequence; use input looping when repeating a single clip (FFmpeg FAQ).

Troubleshoot common loop problems
- The output stops instead of repeating: Check that
-stream_loop -1is before the correct-i. With separate files, add the option before each corresponding input. - The render does not end: Add an output-side
-tbefore the output filename, for example-t 01:00:00. - The wrong picture or sound appears: Use explicit
-mapselections, adjusting the input and stream indexes to match your files. - FFmpeg reports an encoder or codec error: The example’s encoder settings are not available in every FFmpeg build. Check your installed build and available encoders, then choose supported encoders and compatible output settings.
- The join clicks, goes silent, or jumps visually: Inspect the source’s beginning and end. Looping repeats the seam; it does not automatically blend it.
FFmpeg’s online documentation is regenerated nightly for the newest revision and advises consulting the documentation installed with older versions. Since your operating system, FFmpeg build, inputs, and playback target determine which details apply, verify the example against your local environment (FFmpeg documentation).
