For a live performance, use an encoder, a stable upload connection, and someone who can monitor it. For prerecorded programming, a cloud service can play uploaded videos without a computer running at the mandali. In either case, verify the channel early, clear music rights, and plan stream sessions deliberately: YouTube says a livestream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Choose what “24/7” means for your mandali
First decide whether the channel will show live singers and musicians, prerecorded bhajans, or a mix. That choice determines the equipment, staffing, and rights checks.
Live performance
A live mandali needs a camera or fixed visual, microphones and any necessary audio equipment, an encoder, and a dependable internet connection. A volunteer should be assigned to check the broadcast and respond if power, internet, or the encoder fails. Test the singer-and-instrument mix in the actual room; no single microphone or mixer model is established as right for every mandali.
Prerecorded programming
A recording or playlist can provide continuous programming without a live performance at the venue. You can run an encoder on an always-on local computer, or use a cloud service that loops uploaded videos. These are different workflows: an encoder sends a signal from your computer, while a cloud service runs the playback remotely. Either way, YouTube still applies its livestream and copyright rules.

Check channel eligibility before choosing a launch date
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, and the cited YouTube guidance says streamers must be at least 16. Complete activation well before the planned launch rather than discovering a restriction on the day. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance for the current eligibility steps.
Set up a live encoder from YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Choose the visibility and timing appropriate for the mandali.
- Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder’s YouTube streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not post it in public documents or messages. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Connect and test the camera and audio chain. For a fixed altar view, keep the scene simple; for live singing, check that voices and instruments are intelligible and balanced.
- Start the encoder and inspect its preview in Live Control Room before making the stream public. Confirm the picture and sound are correct at the watch page as well as in the encoder.
YouTube describes encoder streaming as suitable when creators need external equipment such as microphones and preamps or want overlays. Use the encoder’s supported YouTube workflow unless you have a specific reason to select a different ingestion protocol. YouTube documents HLS as an option, but HLS has higher latency than RTMP; it is not necessary for a basic setup.
Choose settings your internet connection can sustain
For H.264, YouTube recommends 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps or 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. Its guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. These are YouTube-published recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular connection or encoder will perform reliably.

Choose the lower profile if that is what the connection can reliably support. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Shared connections may have less capacity available than a speed test suggests, so test on the actual connection and, if possible, at the time of day the stream will run. YouTube’s streaming tips cover encoder setup and connection testing.
Test the stream and assign a monitor
- Preview the signal in Live Control Room before going public; verify the picture, sound, and stream status.
- Open the watch page on a phone and confirm viewers can access it and hear the audio clearly.
- Check that the local recording is being written and that its file is growing.
- Name a volunteer to check the stream during operation, especially around planned handoffs or when an encoder or network change is made.
- If you have configured a backup encoder, test failover in advance by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network connection and confirming the backup takes over. Redundancy can improve resilience, but it is not a YouTube prerequisite.
YouTube’s streaming checklist recommends advance setup, previewing the signal, checking the watch page and mobile access, monitoring audio and video, and verifying local archive files.
Plan session rotations and recordings
YouTube can automatically archive streams under 12 hours. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on one unbroken 24/7 broadcast to produce a complete YouTube replay. Keep a local recording if an archive matters, and plan a session handoff before the 12-hour threshold: end the current session, start the next one, and check that the new stream is live. YouTube does not promise that a restart will be seamless.

DVR can let viewers pause or rewind, but YouTube notes that DVR may be limited on long streams. If the mandali wants a dependable replay, check the local recording rather than assuming the platform archive will contain the full broadcast. YouTube’s archive guidance explains the limits.
A YouTube Blog article dated August 12, 2026, says public archived livestreams can contribute qualified watch hours toward YouTube Partner Program eligibility, while streams that are not archived do not count for that metric. YouTube scans livestreams for matches to third-party content. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. If the mandali has permission to use third-party material, the rights owner may still need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams describes these checks.

Before going live, document the repertoire and confirm that the mandali has the necessary rights for the performance and any replay or archive. A song’s devotional nature, age, or popularity does not by itself establish that a particular composition, arrangement, or recording is cleared. Permissions depend on the work, recording, and country; consult the relevant rights holders or a local adviser rather than assuming one country’s rules apply everywhere. YouTube’s terms require creators to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights, and to follow applicable law.
