Apple Books can show books it currently counts as finished, but Apple’s documented interface does not provide a straightforward historical-year report for selecting 2025. Start with Books → Home → Reading Goals and Books → Library → Collections → Finished. If 2025 is no longer represented there, reconstruct the list from those views, synchronized notes and collections, purchase records, receipts, and any reading log you kept. Purchases show what you bought—not what you actually read.
What Apple Books can and cannot show
Apple says Books tracks the number of books and audiobooks you finish each year. A completed title appears under Books Read This Year in Reading Goals. However, Apple’s current iPhone and Mac guides describe a current-year dashboard, not a documented archive or year selector for reopening a year such as 2025.

That means the answer depends on what you need:

Check Reading Goals on iPhone or iPad
- Open Books.
- Tap Home.
- Tap the reading-goals button at the top right.
- Review the annual section, including Books Read This Year.
Apple’s guide says Reading Goals tracks daily reading time, reading streaks, and the number of books and audiobooks finished during the year. The iPhone guide also states a default daily goal of five minutes and a default yearly goal of three books; either can be customized.

If the screen shows the current year rather than 2025, do not assume your old data was deleted. Apple simply does not document a historical-year selection control in this view. It is therefore useful for current-year activity, but not a guaranteed multi-year ledger.
Check the Finished collection
- Open Books.
- Tap Library.
- Tap Collections.
- Open Finished.
Finished is a standard collection alongside Want to Read, My Samples, Audiobooks, and custom collections. It is the most direct place to find titles Apple considers completed, but Apple does not say that it stores or displays the date each title was finished. The list may mix books completed before and after 2025, and it may include a title you manually marked finished.
Mark a missing title as finished
- Open the title’s information menu in your Books library.
- Tap More Info below the cover.
- Tap Mark as Finished.
This updates the book’s status now. It should not be treated as a way to restore an exact 2025 completion date or recreate historical Reading Goals data.
Check Apple Books on a Mac
- Open Books.
- Click Home in the sidebar.
- Scroll to Reading Goals.
- Review Books Read This Year.
Apple says the Mac annual goal becomes available after you finish your first book and can track reading time, streaks, and yearly books or audiobooks finished. For individual titles, use the sidebar under Library and inspect Finished or another relevant collection. The Mac view does not become a documented historical-year archive merely because it shows annual totals.

Reconstruct a 2025 reading list
If Apple Books does not show a dedicated 2025 page, treat the result as a reconstruction. Work through these sources and keep a separate column for evidence and completion date:
- Finished: Copy every plausible title, then identify which belong to 2025 from your own records.
- Custom collections: Look for collections such as “Read in 2025” or “2025 books.”
- Notes, highlights, and bookmarks: These can provide dated context when they synchronized with your library.
- Imported material: Include EPUB files, PDFs, books from another store, borrowed titles, and institutional material that would not appear in Apple purchase history.
- Receipts and email: Search for Apple Books transactions during January 1 through December 31, 2025.
- Other records: Check a spreadsheet, journal, external reading tracker, or annual screenshots.
Keep audiobook entries separate if you want a text-book-only list: Apple’s annual Reading Goals count includes both books and audiobooks. PDFs may also be included when the relevant setting was enabled.
If you meant books purchased in 2025
Apple’s purchase records can identify content acquired through Apple, but they cannot establish that you opened or finished it.
Online purchase history
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
- Review the purchase list and use the available date or period filters to narrow it to 2025.
- Identify Apple Books purchases and label the result 2025 Apple Books purchases, not “books read in 2025.”
Purchase History on iPhone
- Open App Store.
- Tap the sign-in button or profile photo.
- Tap Purchase History.
- Change the recent-period filter to view older purchases, then review the 2025 period.
Purchase history misses imported files, PDFs obtained elsewhere, library books, and titles bought under another Apple Account. Family Sharing can also make the purchaser and reader different. If a title is absent, check other accounts and Apple receipt emails before concluding it was never acquired.

Why a book may be missing
- It was read but never marked finished.
- It was imported as an EPUB or PDF rather than bought from Apple.
- It was borrowed, shared, or obtained from another store.
- Your device uses a different Apple Account.
- Books or iCloud syncing is disabled, incomplete, or still downloading.
- Reading Goals data was cleared.
- The item is an audiobook or PDF and you are applying a text-book-only filter.
Check synchronization across Apple devices
Books can synchronize library information and reading progress across iPhone, iPad, and Mac when the same Apple Account is used and the relevant iCloud options are enabled.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings → [your name] → iCloud → See All (or Show All) and enable Books.
- Depending on the operating-system version, also check Settings → Apps → Books → Home and iCloud Drive.
Apple documents synchronization of reading position, bookmarks, notes, highlights, collections, and related information through Apple device settings and iCloud Books setup.
Mac
In Books → Settings → General, enable Home and Collections, bookmarks, and highlights where available. Also ensure Books is enabled in iCloud Drive’s app-syncing settings. Synchronization can explain why a title is missing on one device, but Apple does not describe iCloud as a complete, date-stamped historical reading archive.

On iPhone or iPad, Settings → Apps → Books → Reading Goals turns the feature off. The same area includes Clear Reading Goals Data, which clears reading statistics such as time, goals, and streaks. On Mac, open Books → Settings → General and disable Enable Reading Goals or use Clear Reading Goals Data.

Turning off the feature and clearing its data are different actions. Clearing data can remove the statistics needed to confirm annual activity. It may not remove library titles or the Finished collection, but the exact result can depend on the app version, so use the collection and personal records when rebuilding 2025.
Keep a reliable yearly list going forward
- Create a dated custom collection, such as Read in 2026, and add each completed title immediately.
- Mark books finished as soon as you complete them.
- Record the completion date in Notes or a spreadsheet.
- Put imported EPUBs and PDFs in the same dated collection.
- Capture an annual screenshot or maintain a personal export outside Apple Books.
These steps create a record you control instead of relying on a status collection or a current-year dashboard to preserve a historical list.
The Bottom Line
For current Apple Books records, open Books → Home → Reading Goals and Library → Collections → Finished. Apple does not document a simple historical report for selecting 2025, so a definitive list may require combining those views with synced records, receipts, purchase history, and your own reading log.
