What you need to schedule a YouTube playlist livestream
A scheduled live event creates an upcoming livestream and its watch page. A separate playback setup must send the actual video feed to YouTube. In other words, you cannot simply select an ordinary YouTube playlist as the live input: prepare the prerecorded videos and use playback or automation that feeds them into an encoder.
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- The video files you intend to play, with the necessary rights to use them.
- An encoder and a computer or device to run it, or a cloud automation service that can provide the feed.
- The stream URL and stream key for the event, which let the encoder send video to YouTube.
If this is your channel’s first livestream activation, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Check channel readiness well before the night you plan to stream.
How to schedule the YouTube live event
- Open the live-event scheduler. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open Manage and choose Schedule Stream. You can reuse settings from an earlier event or create a new one.
- Enter the event details. Set the title, visibility, and planned start time. Choose a start time that matches your intended overnight window in India, and inspect the time zone displayed in the live-event interface before saving. Do not assume it uses the same controls as scheduled video uploads: YouTube’s separate scheduled-video guide documents a time-zone setting, but that does not confirm how the live-event scheduler behaves.
- Save the event and locate its connection details. Open the event in Live Control Room to retrieve the stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private; it functions as the credential that allows an encoder to send a feed to your event.
- Set up the prerecorded playback sequence. Arrange the files in the order you want them played and configure playback or automation to continue for the duration you intend. The YouTube scheduling and encoder instructions cover the event and connection, not how to assemble files into a continuous playlist feed, so the playback step depends on your chosen software or service.
- Connect your encoder. If it offers YouTube as a destination, select it and connect the scheduled event. Otherwise, enter the event’s stream URL and key in the encoder. Confirm that the encoder is sending the intended prerecorded feed, rather than a camera input.
- Check the preview and event access. Confirm the video and audio appear in Live Control Room and that the event is reachable as intended. If the event is private or unlisted, check that its visibility matches your audience plan.
Rehearse before the overnight window
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the livestream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that lead time to catch connection or playback problems before the audience arrives.

- Check that the Live Control Room preview shows the right video and that audio is audible and in sync.
- Confirm that the event page is accessible to the intended viewers.
- Monitor the stream’s video and audio quality during the rehearsal.
- Plan for upload capacity: YouTube recommends 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Its guidance also warns that the total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth.
These are YouTube operational recommendations; the cited guidance does not prescribe a particular bitrate, resolution, or encoder setting for your specific files and network. Use settings appropriate to your source video and encoder, then verify the resulting preview rather than assuming a setting will work on every connection.
What time should I schedule a YouTube livestream in India?
Choose the start time according to the overnight period you want viewers in India to join, then verify the displayed time zone in the live-event scheduler before you save. The available YouTube live-event guidance does not identify the time zone used by that field. Do not infer it from the scheduled-video publishing screen, which is a separate workflow.

As a practical check, compare the displayed date and time with a clock set to the time zone you intend to use. This is especially important for an event scheduled near midnight, when a time-zone mismatch can change not just the hour but also the calendar date.

End the stream and plan for the replay
The encoder must stop sending content to end the livestream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited guidance does not establish automatic archiving for streams lasting 12 hours or longer, so do not rely on an automatic replay for a longer run.

Troubleshooting an overnight playlist livestream
