You can run a prerecorded YouTube playlist from an Indian cloud VM by scheduling the event in YouTube Studio, storing authorized media on persistent cloud storage, and using FFmpeg as the encoder to send a real-time feed to YouTube. The VM keeps the encoder running while your own computer is off; it does not make a scheduled event into a continuous channel feed, and it still requires monitoring and a recovery plan.
Choose between a scheduled event and one continuous stream
A YouTube live event and a 24/7 playlist are different parts of the setup. YouTube Studio creates and promotes the event and its watch page. FFmpeg supplies the video and audio feed. Scheduling an event does not automate a playlist or guarantee uninterrupted playout.
| Workflow | Best fit | What to plan |
|---|---|---|
| Separate scheduled broadcasts | Distinct, promotable events with their own titles, visibility, dates, and watch pages. | Schedule each event and control when the encoder feed starts and stops. YouTube’s API model distinguishes each broadcast from the reusable stream configuration; its documented pattern allows multiple broadcasts to use shared encoder settings, with only one event live at a time. |
| One continuous FFmpeg stream | A single ongoing feed that plays a playlist from a cloud VM. | Persistent media, real-time input pacing, process supervision, connection monitoring, and recovery if FFmpeg or the connection stops. |
Schedule the YouTube event in Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Choose Manage, then schedule a stream.
- Set the event details, including title, visibility, date and time, audience, and other available settings.
- In Live Control Room, find the encoder connection details: the stream URL and stream key. You will enter them in FFmpeg on the VM. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
Scheduling gives viewers an event page to visit before the broadcast. The encoder must still connect and send content for the event to go live. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room; stopping the feed ends the stream. See YouTube’s encoder setup and live-stream guidance.
Prepare an Indian cloud VM for continuous playout
Use an always-on VM in an India region if you want the server physically located there, but region alone does not establish that a particular machine can sustain your workload. Before choosing a plan, verify current regional availability, sustained CPU capacity for your encoding approach, persistent disk, outbound transfer limits, restart behavior, and provider terms. There is no universal India VPS size or price that fits every video and stream configuration.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Put the playlist files on persistent storage attached to, or reliably accessible from, the VM. A temporary disk may not survive instance replacement or maintenance.
- Confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to stream every video and audio track in the playlist.
- Decide whether FFmpeg will copy compatible encoded streams or encode them. That choice affects CPU use, output compatibility, and the settings you need to validate.
- Set up logs, process supervision, and a way to detect a lost YouTube connection before relying on unattended operation.
Configure FFmpeg without treating a sample command as universal
FFmpeg reads media inputs and sends outputs. For file input that is being sent as a live feed, its -re option (also called -readrate 1) reads at the input’s native rate. This real-time pacing is useful when output timing matters, such as live streaming, but it does not itself keep a process stable or recover a dropped connection. Consult the official FFmpeg manual.
The conceptual configuration is to select the playlist input, loop it, pace it in real time, and send the output to YouTube’s ingest address using the stream key from Live Control Room. Exact FFmpeg options depend on the files, codecs, desired output, and YouTube ingest settings. No single untested command is reliable for every media combination, so build and validate the command against your actual files and stream setup rather than copying a generic line into production.

- Confirm each input file plays correctly and that the intended playlist order is clear.
- Configure looping and real-time pacing for the input workflow you have chosen.
- Set the output and any required video or audio handling to match the media and YouTube encoder requirements for your event.
- Use the Live Control Room stream URL and key as the destination details. Store the key securely rather than placing it in a public script, repository, or log.
- Start a test feed and inspect stream health in Live Control Room. Check for black frames, missing audio, unexpected gaps, and whether the output remains stable over a meaningful test period.
- Only after testing, configure supervision and restart/recovery behavior, and verify what happens when the process or network is interrupted.
For recurring scheduled events that reuse encoder settings, YouTube’s API uses separate liveBroadcast resources for events and a reusable liveStream resource for ingest settings. Its documented binding pattern supports multiple scheduled broadcasts sharing a stream resource, with one event live at a time. This is useful when you need a sequence of scheduled events, not a substitute for playlist automation. See YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
Plan archives and recovery before leaving the stream unattended
Archive length
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours being archived as a complete video. If you need complete on-demand copies of a longer playlist, plan separate shorter events or make and retain independent recordings. The stated platform rule is in YouTube Help’s live-stream guidance.

Process and connection recovery
An always-on VM removes the need to keep your personal computer running, but it does not eliminate operational responsibility. FFmpeg may exit, the VM may restart, or the connection to YouTube may fail. Keep persistent media available, retain useful logs, monitor the feed, and test the restart and reconnection path. Verify recovery in Live Control Room instead of assuming a process restart will always restore the event correctly.
Self-managed FFmpeg VM or managed cloud transcoding?
| Approach | What it provides | What you remain responsible for |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg on a VM | Direct control of media playout and an encoder feed sent to YouTube. | VM selection, persistent media, FFmpeg configuration, monitoring, and recovery. |
| Google Cloud Live Stream API | A distinct managed transcoding service whose documented outputs are HLS or DASH saved to Cloud Storage. | Configuring that service and its output/storage workflow. Its documentation does not establish it as a direct replacement for sending an FFmpeg encoder feed to YouTube. |
For the managed service’s scope, see Google Cloud Live Stream API overview. Do not confuse its HLS/DASH output pipeline with the direct VM-to-YouTube encoder workflow above.

Troubleshoot common failures
- The scheduled page exists, but no live video appears: scheduling creates the event page, not the media feed. Check that FFmpeg is running, the event is ready, and the correct stream URL and key are configured.
- YouTube does not show a healthy incoming feed: confirm the key and ingest destination in Live Control Room, check the VM’s outbound connectivity, and inspect FFmpeg logs for input or output errors.
- The playlist ends instead of continuing: verify the loop/input behavior for the actual playlist format and test it from beginning to end; input pacing alone does not loop media.
- Video plays but sound is missing or wrong: inspect the source files and FFmpeg’s audio handling, then test the resulting feed in Live Control Room before going unattended.
- The feed stops after a VM interruption: check instance restart policy and process supervision, then test the full recovery path, including whether YouTube accepts the returning feed for the intended event.
- The archive is incomplete or absent after a very long stream: YouTube’s automatic archive rule applies to streams under 12 hours; use shorter events or independent recording when complete copies matter.
Keep the playlist rights-cleared and suitable for YouTube
Use only recordings, music, footage, and other material you have the rights or permissions to stream. A public or scheduled event does not grant permission to rebroadcast copyrighted work. Review YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization policies for your channel and content; reused-content and copyright considerations are separate from the technical ability to transmit a feed. Test the playlist and confirm its rights before leaving it live.
