To add a webcam in OBS, add a Video Capture Source to a scene and choose your camera in its properties. To give it a decorative border, add the frame graphic as an Image Source and place it above the camera in the Sources list. To reuse the setup, choose between pasting a reference and a duplicate—but camera sources may not behave like independent copies.
Here, “webcam frame” means a decorative border around the live camera picture, not individual still frames from a video.
Add a webcam to an OBS scene

Select the scene where you want the camera to appear.

In the Sources dock, click the plus button and add a Video Capture Source. OBS’s FAQ gives the same basic instruction: “To add a webcam to your stream, add a Video Capture Source to your scene.” OBS Project, FAQ (2022).

Open the source’s properties and select the actual camera from the Device menu. The source type also supports capture cards. On Windows, the camera driver needs to provide DirectShow output. OBS Video Capture Sources documentation.

Position and size the camera using its red bounding box in the preview. Check the crop and aspect ratio before moving on.

In the Sources list, put the border above the webcam so it appears over the picture. Sources higher in the list are displayed above lower sources. If the graphic includes an opaque backing that should sit behind the camera, place that backing below the camera instead. OBS Sources Guide.

Select a source and adjust its bounds in the preview. To crop an edge, hold Alt while dragging that edge. OBS documents these transform shortcuts: Ctrl+F to fit, Ctrl+S to stretch, Ctrl+D to center, and Ctrl+R to reset size and position. Check the result in the preview: stretching can change the source’s aspect ratio, while fitting preserves it. OBS Transforms Guide.
Copy or reuse the webcam setup
OBS’s source context menu has been documented with Paste (Reference) and Paste (Duplicate). The labels are version-sensitive; check the menu in your installed OBS version rather than relying on a shortcut or assuming the options are identical across releases. If you want the same camera composition in several scenes, another option is to build a reusable scene with the camera and add that scene to other scenes. If you need different crops or placements, adjust and test the scene instances carefully. Source type affects what can be shared or edited independently, so confirm the output in each target scene.
Fix a blank or missing camera picture

Check the selected device. Open the Video Capture Source properties and confirm that Device names the camera you intend to use.

Choose a supported resolution and frame rate. An unsupported combination can leave the source blank. If you are unsure which modes the camera supports, try another listed option. OBS Video Capture Sources documentation.

Check the operating-system-specific source settings. On Windows, confirm the camera driver provides DirectShow output. Linux uses V4L2 source properties, so Windows-specific instructions do not necessarily apply.

Test before broadcasting. Make a short recording or test stream and check the camera, crop, border layering, and scene reuse before going live. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing settings before a first live broadcast. OBS Quick Start Guide.
