Yes. Run two separate YouTube live events and send each its own incoming video feed, playlist, stream URL, and stream key. One OBS setup can play each playlist through a VLC Video source, but producing two independent outputs may require separate OBS instances, an output plug-in, or another encoder arrangement. Test the exact configuration before relying on it.
What you need to run two different streams
YouTube treats a live event as the viewer-facing broadcast and a stream as the incoming encoder feed. To show different playlists at the same time, create two events and supply two genuinely different feeds. Sending one incoming feed to two broadcasts duplicates the same content; it does not create two playlists. Google’s API guidance describes separate liveStream resources for simultaneous broadcasts with different content and settings: YouTube Live Streaming API guide.
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no active restriction that blocks streaming. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours; YouTube requires streamers to be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Two distinct playlists made from media you have the rights to use.
- An encoder arrangement that can produce two independent outputs at the intended quality.
- Sufficient computer processing capacity and upload bandwidth for both encoded feeds.
Know YouTube’s simultaneous-stream limits
YouTube’s current Help page states a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at once; they are platform limits, not a guarantee that a particular computer or internet connection can sustain that many streams at a chosen quality. See Get started with live streaming.
Set up two separate playlists and broadcasts in OBS
- Enable and verify livestreaming. In YouTube Studio, confirm the channel is eligible and live streaming is enabled. If you have not activated it before, allow up to 24 hours for access.
- Create two live events. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule one event for each playlist. Set each event’s title, visibility, and other details independently. Use distinct stream configurations for the two different feeds.
- Prepare a playlist for each feed in OBS. Add a VLC Video source for the first playlist, then load its media files and choose whether to loop or shuffle. Add another VLC Video source for the second playlist and configure it separately. OBS documents the source’s playlist and looping options at VLC Video Source. VLC must be installed for this source to appear.
- Arrange two independent encoder outputs. Configure the output method so each playlist can be sent as its own feed. Depending on your OBS installation and chosen method, that may require separate OBS instances, an output plug-in, or another encoder arrangement. Do not assume one output automatically creates two different feeds.
- Match each output to its event. In each event’s stream settings in YouTube Studio, copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder output. Keep a clear mapping: playlist one to event one’s URL and key, playlist two to event two’s URL and key. YouTube explains the encoder setup in its live-streaming guide.
- Start the outputs and check both previews. Before making the events public, check each Live Control Room preview separately. Confirm that the picture, audio, playlist order, and destination are correct. An unlisted test is a useful way to verify the setup without a public launch.
- Monitor both feeds while they run. Watch each event’s stream health and keep an eye on available upload capacity. Two encoded outputs require more processing and outgoing bandwidth than one; the amount depends on your settings and hardware. YouTube notes that local encoding can be CPU-intensive and describes cloud encoding as an alternative in its Live Streaming API guide.
Use settings your system can sustain
There is no single bitrate or resolution that can be prescribed for every two-stream setup: the suitable output depends on the media, encoder, hardware, and upload capacity. Choose settings that are supported by the encoder and YouTube event, then test both outputs at those exact settings. If either preview or stream health is unstable, reduce output demands or use an encoder arrangement with enough capacity before going live.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Respect copyright and YouTube rules
Only stream videos and audio you are authorized to use. A playlist looping for hours is still subject to copyright claims and YouTube’s policies. Review the platform’s applicable copyright and livestream rules for your channel and content before scheduling a broadcast; an unlisted preview checks the technical path, not your rights to the media.
Choose an encoder approach
| Approach | Useful when | Trade-offs to check |
|---|---|---|
| Local software encoder | You need separate scenes or file playlists and have enough computer capacity. | Flexible; the computer must decode media, encode both outputs, and upload both feeds. OBS’s VLC Video source can handle file playlists. |
| Hardware encoder | You already use video production equipment or need a dedicated encoder workflow. | YouTube lists standalone hardware encoders as an option. Check that the model and workflow can produce two independent feeds; hardware encoding is not required for the basic software method. |
| Cloud encoding | Local hardware is constrained or the workflow needs remote distribution. | YouTube describes cloud encoding as sending a feed to a service for distribution; it may involve a subscription and service setup. Confirm that the service accepts two different source playlists rather than merely mirroring one feed. |
Compare options on their ability to create two genuinely different feeds, supported output quality and bitrate, local or service capacity, upload bandwidth, operational simplicity, and cost. YouTube’s documentation distinguishes separate content feeds from duplicating one incoming feed across broadcasts.

Troubleshoot common problems
The VLC Video source is missing
Install VLC, then reopen or refresh OBS and check the source list again. OBS requires VLC for this source.
Both events show the same playlist
Check that each output is receiving its own playlist source and that you have configured two independent feeds. Binding one incoming feed to multiple broadcasts repeats the same incoming content.

An event receives no video
Confirm that the output is using the matching event’s server URL and stream key, that the encoder output has started, and that the event preview is receiving a signal. Recheck the mapping if keys or event settings were changed.
The preview stutters or a stream drops
Two feeds add encoder work and upload demand. Test both at the planned settings; if performance is unstable, lower the output demands or move to an encoder arrangement with more capacity. Check both events rather than assuming a healthy preview means the other feed is healthy.

Why Live Redirect is not a second playlist
YouTube Live Redirect sends viewers to a Premiere or another live stream after a broadcast; it does not run two playlists simultaneously. YouTube says creators using redirects need more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. See YouTube’s Live Redirect guidance.
