You can use FFmpeg to loop a media file into SRS, then use a separate publishing path to send a live stream to YouTube. The distinction matters: the SRS Docker example publishes to SRS and demonstrates local playback; it does not automatically forward the stream to YouTube. For a real 24/7 setup, you also need process supervision, monitoring, and a recovery plan.
Understand the stream path
Think of SRS as a media server on your host, not as YouTube’s ingest address. In the documented local workflow, the path is:
Media file → FFmpeg loop → SRS RTMP ingest → local preview
YouTube is a separate destination. To publish there, a client or explicitly configured relay must use the current YouTube RTMPS ingest address and stream credentials. Starting SRS alone does not send anything to YouTube.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Start SRS and confirm local playback
The SRS getting-started guide demonstrates a Docker setup with ports 1935, 1985 and 8080 mapped for the example. These are illustrative quick-start values, not a guarantee that the same port mapping suits every deployment. Follow the current guide for the exact command and check that the container starts before publishing a file.
Once the example is running, use the documented local playback options to check the stream: RTMP, HTTP-FLV or HLS. For example, the guide’s sample RTMP publish address is rtmp://host.docker.internal/live/livestream. That address is for the local SRS workflow, not YouTube ingestion. See the SRS Getting Started Docker guide for the current example and playback addresses.

Loop a file into SRS with FFmpeg
The SRS guide demonstrates this FFmpeg command pattern using an encoder container:
docker run --rm -it ossrs/srs:encoder ffmpeg
-stream_loop -1 -re -i doc/source.flv
-c copy -f flv rtmp://host.docker.internal/live/livestream
- Make the file available to the container. The sample input,
doc/source.flv, belongs to the SRS repository example. Replace it with your own media path and mount or otherwise expose that file inside the container. - Loop it.
-stream_loop -1tells FFmpeg to repeat the input indefinitely.-rereads it at its native rate rather than sending it as fast as possible. - Check stream-copy compatibility.
-c copyavoids transcoding, but only works when the input streams and output/container requirements are compatible. The example does not establish compatibility for every video file. - Publish to the SRS endpoint. The destination in the example is SRS’s local RTMP path. Validate it using one of SRS’s documented playback endpoints before adding a YouTube publishing path.
This is a demonstration invocation, not an unattended service definition. The --rm -it flags do not configure automatic restart, process supervision or alerting. See the SRS RTMP documentation for protocol context.

Connect a publishing path to YouTube
In YouTube’s live setup, obtain the current ingest URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who can use it may be able to publish to your stream. Use the values YouTube provides for the channel and event rather than hard-coding an endpoint copied from an example.
For RTMPS, the connection must use the correct rtmps protocol and path, SSL over port 443, and SNI containing the server hostname. YouTube documents the API-provisioned RTMPS endpoint in cdn.ingestionInfo.rtmpsIngestionAddress; ordinary creators should use the values displayed in their live setup. YouTube describes RTMPS as a good choice for ordinary low-latency user content. Consult Google’s YouTube RTMPS ingestion guide, last updated 2026-09-14 UTC.

If SRS is meant to relay the feed onward, configure an explicit forwarding or publishing component for that job. The quick-start loop command only sends FFmpeg output to SRS and shows local playback; it does not establish a complete SRS-to-YouTube relay configuration. Do not treat the SRS local URL and YouTube’s RTMPS ingest URL as interchangeable.

A loop command can repeat a file, but uninterrupted operation depends on more than looping. Treat these as deployment responsibilities to implement and test; they are not features proven by the quick-start example.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Process supervision: run FFmpeg and SRS under a supervisor or orchestrator, define restart behavior, and confirm what happens after a crash or host reboot.
- Useful logs and alerts: retain logs and alert on FFmpeg exit, SRS health problems, and loss of the YouTube ingest separately. A process being alive does not prove viewers can see the intended stream.
- Reconnect testing: test what happens when the network, SRS, FFmpeg, or YouTube connection drops. Confirm that recovery resumes the correct content and destination.
- Source continuity: verify that the media file remains available and readable for the whole run. Have a documented procedure for replacing a file or restoring a broken source.
- Credential recovery: know how to replace a revoked or exposed stream key without putting it in public logs, scripts or shared configuration.
- Account and content checks: verify YouTube live access and review copyright and reused-content rules for the material you plan to stream. A technical loop does not grant rights to the video or guarantee that a channel’s content complies with platform policies.
Host uptime, network continuity, file integrity and YouTube account or platform state all affect availability. The official examples do not prescribe a complete production monitoring system or promise uninterrupted service.
Choose where SRS runs
You can run SRS on a home server or on rented compute, but the cited documentation does not establish comparative costs or a minimum CPU, RAM or network requirement. Resource needs depend on factors such as stream count, resolution, codec and whether you copy streams or transcode them. Stream copying and transcoding have different compatibility and compute implications; test your actual workload rather than assuming a device is sufficient.
The SRS project README identifies version 8.0 and lists Linux and macOS support across x86_64 and ARM-family architectures; it recommends Docker. The SRS project README is on the mutable develop branch, so verify the current version, image tags and compatibility before building a deployment around them. The documentation does not validate a particular mini PC or supply a hardware sizing table.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube loop without keeping a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud service that plays uploaded videos on a YouTube channel. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded content in the cloud; it does not go live from a camera.
