To run a poll on YouTube Live, open the live stream or Premiere’s Live Chat, choose Create a poll, enter the poll, and publish it. When you are ready to close it, choose End poll in the chat banner. On Android, the route is Add → Create a poll.
Run a poll from a computer
- Open the live stream or Premiere and open its chat window.
- At the bottom of chat, click Create a poll.
- Enter the poll and its answer options, then create it.
- To close it, click End poll in the banner at the top of chat. YouTube says the results appear in chat.
YouTube documents this workflow for a computer. The chat controls may differ on mobile.
Run a poll in the YouTube Android app
- Sign in to the YouTube app and start a live stream.
- In the chat window, tap Add, then Create a poll.
- Enter the poll and its answer options, then create it.
- When you want to close it, tap End poll in the banner at the top of chat.
YouTube’s Android instructions describe starting a stream in the app; they are not the same as the computer instructions.
Poll rules to know before asking viewers to vote
- A live poll is available for a live stream or Premiere.
- Each poll needs two to four options.
- A poll can remain open for up to 24 hours.
- Viewers cannot change their vote after submitting it.
- Polls are visible live but do not appear in live chat replays. Ask viewers to vote before the poll closes if you want their response counted.
YouTube also documents a mobile live poll sticker that the host can move and resize.

If the poll or chat controls are missing
Check whether Live Chat is available for the stream and how viewers are accessing it. Live Chat is available on YouTube watch pages, not embedded players. A Made for Kids audience setting disables Live Chat, and some chats may have restricted features. These are known reasons chat or its features may be unavailable, but they are not the only possible causes.
