You can stream a Malayalam sermon through YouTube Live using YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and an encoder such as OBS Studio. But a computer-and-OBS setup is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasting: power, internet, software, or YouTube interruptions can stop the stream, so plan to monitor it and know who will reconnect it.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days, and meets YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16 for live streaming. Check current eligibility in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements can change.
- A computer running OBS Studio, a reliable internet connection, and the sermon as a live audio/video source or a recording you have permission to stream.
- A stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your broadcast.
- A person who can watch stream health and picture and sound, and who knows how to reconnect or restart the broadcast if it fails.
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming, which can use equipment such as microphones and preamps. A microphone is useful for a preacher speaking live if the computer lacks a suitable audio input; it is not necessary just to stream a recording that already has usable sound. YouTube Help
Set up the YouTube broadcast and OBS
- Confirm eligibility. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and check that the channel can go live. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; it also states that streamers must be at least 16.
- Create or select the broadcast. In Live Control Room, create a stream or select the one you intend to use. Set its title, description, visibility, and audience designation. Choose scheduled or immediate streaming according to whether viewers need advance notice and whether you want time to preview. Screen labels can change, so follow the current Studio interface.
- Copy the stream key. In the broadcast’s stream settings, copy its key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube RTMPS, and enter the key. Do not share it publicly; reset it if you think it has been exposed. The OBS guide describes this YouTube connection workflow: OBS Studio’s YouTube streaming guide.
- Set up the sermon source. For live preaching, add the camera and microphone or other audio input in OBS. For a prerecorded sermon, add the video source and make sure its audio is audible. Monitor levels and confirm that the picture and sound are the ones you intend to send.
- Connect and check the incoming stream. Start streaming from OBS and wait for YouTube Live Control Room to show the incoming feed and stream status. Before a public broadcast, consider rehearsing as a private or unlisted stream. Check the viewer-facing picture and sound, not only the OBS preview.
- Choose start and stop behavior deliberately. YouTube’s scheduled-stream controls include auto-start and auto-stop options. These determine whether connecting or disconnecting the encoder changes the broadcast state; understand their effect on reconnection before enabling auto-stop. The OBS guide also notes that broadcasts can eventually end after multiple hours without incoming streaming. Keep a human operator available rather than assuming an open OBS window will keep a stream permanent.
- Publish and monitor. Once the rehearsal is satisfactory, make the broadcast public at the planned time and share its YouTube link. Watch stream health and audio during the run, and have the responsible operator ready to reconnect or restart if the feed stops.
Plan realistically for a nonstop stream
“Nonstop” is an operating goal, not a guarantee provided by a computer, OBS, or YouTube. A power loss, computer failure, internet interruption, encoder problem, or platform issue can break continuity. The cited YouTube and OBS guidance does not establish a guaranteed uptime or quantified recovery time for a home-computer setup. YouTube may also eventually end a broadcast after multiple hours without incoming streaming.
Rehearse the exact broadcast configuration, decide who will monitor it, and make sure that person knows how to reconnect and contact the channel operator. If continuous availability is essential, consider what independent power or network arrangements your budget permits, or use a separately managed streaming service after checking that it meets your requirements.

Protect the sermon’s rights and set its audience correctly
YouTube requires livestreams to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service and can restrict live-streaming access. Before airing a sermon, verify that you have permission for the recording and each component it contains, such as music, images, translations, or performances. A religious or educational purpose does not by itself establish that a particular recording is cleared for streaming. The applicable rights depend on the specific material and permissions.
In YouTube Studio, choose the audience designation that accurately reflects the content’s intended audience and follow YouTube’s current guidance. A sermon is not automatically “made for kids” merely because families may watch it.

Limits and operating choices to check
YouTube currently documents a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are platform limits and may change; check YouTube Help before relying on them for a multi-stream setup.
| Decision | Use it when | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled or immediate broadcast | Viewers need advance notice, or you need a preview window | Confirm the current Live Control Room workflow and the intended start time. |
| Auto-start and auto-stop | You want encoder connection or disconnection to change the broadcast state automatically | Understand the reconnect consequences, especially before enabling auto-stop. |
| Live speech or prerecorded sermon | The preacher will speak live, or you will send an existing recording | For live speech, check microphone and input levels. For a recording, check its picture and audio and confirm permission to stream it. |
Troubleshooting common interruptions
- YouTube will not let the channel go live: check channel verification, the 90-day restriction requirement, and the minimum age requirement in YouTube Help. Resolve eligibility issues before the planned service.
- Live Control Room shows no incoming feed: confirm OBS is streaming, that YouTube RTMPS is selected, and that the key belongs to the intended broadcast. If the key may be exposed, reset it and enter the replacement in OBS.
- The broadcast starts or ends unexpectedly: review the scheduled stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings and check whether OBS has disconnected. The OBS guidance warns that a broadcast may eventually end after multiple hours without incoming video.
- Viewers cannot hear the sermon: check that the intended audio source is active in OBS, that its level is not muted, and that sound is present in the incoming YouTube preview before publishing.
- The stream stops during the service: have the operator check the computer, power, internet connection, OBS connection, and YouTube stream status, then reconnect or restart as appropriate. A computer setup has no guaranteed automatic recovery in the cited guidance.
- A copyright or policy issue appears: review the notice and confirm permissions for every element in the sermon recording. Do not assume the subject matter itself clears music, images, translations, or performances.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the sermon is prerecorded and the goal is an always-on YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera and it streams to YouTube only. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the uploaded video streams as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot.
