1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou can move the encoder that feeds a 24/7 YouTube stream from OBS to a cloud service without changing YouTube as the destination. Document your current setup, configure the cloud service with the correct YouTube stream URL and key, test its output and recovery behavior, then cut over with a rollback plan. A staged migration reduces avoidable risk, but no reviewed source guarantees a seamless handoff or zero interruption.
What changes—and what stays the same
OBS is the encoder in your current setup: it assembles and sends the video and audio feed. In a cloud setup, a service takes over some or all of that encoder or playout work and sends the feed to YouTube. Your channel and YouTube Live Control Room remain the destination and place to verify the incoming stream.
YouTube’s stream key identifies the feed and allows YouTube to accept it; YouTube describes stream keys as the stream’s “password and address.” Keep the key private. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the service using it. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Choose a cloud approach that fits the stream
First decide whether you need to play existing recordings, reproduce a live OBS production, or build a managed broadcast pipeline. YouTube’s encoder directory names services for different jobs, not interchangeable versions of the same product.

| Approach | When it fits | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud playout of uploaded videos or a playlist as a continuous YouTube stream. It is #1 for this use case because it runs always-on from the cloud, accepts uploads up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. | It plays uploaded video, not a live camera feed. Confirm that uploaded-video playout matches your current OBS scenes and overlays. |
| Gyre | YouTube’s encoder guide identifies it as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming, including operation without a dedicated PC. | Confirm current source formats, controls, recovery behavior, archive needs, support and total cost with the provider. |
| AWS Elemental MediaLive | YouTube’s directory lists it for broadcast-grade processing. | Check whether its processing and setup fit your workflow; it is not described as the same kind of prerecorded-video playout tool as Gyre. |
| Grabyo Producer | YouTube’s directory lists it for cloud-native production workflows. | Check the production features and service requirements needed to replace your OBS scenes. |
| Custom cloud pipeline | A technical team can build an input, encoding and delivery workflow using Google Cloud’s Live Stream API. | Its configuration and operating cost depend on the implementation. Google’s protocol and bitrate guidance applies to its API workflow, not universally to YouTube. |
See YouTube’s encoder guide and directory, Google Cloud Live Stream API documentation and the relevant provider’s current documentation. The reviewed material does not establish current prices, regional availability or a vendor-neutral uptime guarantee.
1. Inventory the OBS and YouTube setup
Before changing anything, record what the continuous stream actually depends on. This inventory becomes both your configuration checklist and your rollback reference.

- OBS production: list video and audio sources, scene order, overlays, transitions and any scheduled or automated start and stop.
- Output: record resolution, frame rate, video codec, bitrate, keyframe interval, audio format and any recording settings.
- YouTube broadcast: note the title, privacy setting, latency choice, DVR setting and auto-start or auto-stop choices.
- Stream credentials: identify the stream URL and whether the existing custom stream key is reusable. YouTube allows custom keys for reuse; do not put the key in public notes, screenshots or support requests.
- Archive needs: decide whether you need a complete recording of the 24/7 program, rather than assuming YouTube will retain one unbroken archive.
YouTube’s live stream settings guide describes stream URL, key, latency, DVR and auto-start/auto-stop settings.
2. Configure the cloud service’s YouTube destination
- Prepare the service: add the prerecorded source or production inputs and configure the output settings supported by the chosen service. For playout, confirm playlist order, looping behavior and what happens at the end of a file or if a source is unavailable.
- Copy the YouTube ingest details: in YouTube Live Control Room, use the stream URL and key associated with the intended broadcast. Paste them into the corresponding destination fields in the cloud service. Exact screens and field names vary by vendor.
- Use a secure ingest endpoint where supported: YouTube supports RTMPS. Google describes it as RTMP tunneled through SSL; its ingestion guidance specifies a valid endpoint, port 443 and hostname SNI for authentication. If connection fails, check the protocol prefix, endpoint, port and SNI requirements rather than assuming any RTMP URL will work. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Protect the key: enter it only in the intended service configuration. If it may have been compromised, reset it in YouTube and replace it in the cloud service before relying on that output.
3. Test ingest, output and recovery before cutover
Test the new path before replacing the public continuous feed. If possible, use a separate test broadcast or a controlled maintenance window so the test does not unexpectedly take over the existing stream. Check both ends: the cloud service’s ingest and output status, and YouTube’s incoming preview and stream status in Live Control Room.

Cloudflare’s guidance for its live inputs says to configure clients to reconnect, recommends constant bitrate (CBR) when possible, and documents H.264 video with AAC audio input support. For Cloudflare, it recommends a 2–8 second GOP/keyframe interval. These are Cloudflare-specific recommendations and requirements, not universal YouTube settings; use the chosen service’s own supported formats and guidance. See Cloudflare Stream documentation.
For its Live Stream API, Google Cloud publishes input bitrate guidance including 8 Mbps for 720p at 25–30 fps H.264 and 20 Mbps for 1080p at 50–60 fps H.264. Those values apply to Google Cloud’s API input guidance; they are not universal YouTube bitrate requirements. Check the chosen encoder and service documentation for your exact resolution and frame rate. See Google Cloud Live Stream API documentation.

4. Cut over with a rollback plan
Once the new output has passed testing, schedule the switch so someone can watch YouTube Live Control Room and the cloud service. Record the existing OBS settings and keep the prior encoder ready. Start the cloud output using the correct YouTube destination, then verify the incoming preview and stream status before treating the migration as complete.
Do not assume two encoders can safely use the same key at once or that switching sources will preserve an uninterrupted broadcast. The reviewed setup documentation does not specify a universally safe handoff sequence. If the cloud output is missing, unstable or visibly wrong, stop the attempted cutover and restore the known OBS configuration using your recorded settings. Once service is stable, continue monitoring reconnect events, output health and YouTube status.

Plan latency and 24/7 archives separately
YouTube’s latency choice affects how live the playback feels: lower latency can increase buffering. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during the live stream. For a mostly passive continuous documentary or playlist stream, low latency may not help unless you interact with viewers in real time. Choose the setting for the actual viewing experience and test it. YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one 24-hour broadcast will become a complete single archive. If retaining the full program matters, plan deliberate recording or segmentation and verify the retention behavior of the selected service. Separately, Cloudflare documents that recordings of its live videos longer than seven days are truncated to seven days; that is a Cloudflare-specific recording limit, not a YouTube archive rule. YouTube’s encoder guide; Cloudflare Stream documentation.
Compare total operational fit, not just the encoder label
Before committing, compare the service against the work OBS currently does and the way you operate a continuous channel:
- Does it play prerecorded video, support live scene production, or provide managed broadcast processing?
- Can it reproduce the OBS scenes, overlays and source behavior you need, or will the program need to change?
- Which input codecs and protocols does it accept, and what output controls does it provide?
- How does it reconnect or fail over, and what monitoring or alerts are available?
- Can you control the YouTube stream key, metadata and start/stop behavior as needed?
- How are recordings retained, segmented and accessed?
- What is the full cost for your intended schedule and bitrate, including any infrastructure, storage or support charges?
- Who can access the account and respond when the stream needs attention?
Current prices and service terms vary and are not established here; verify them directly with the provider before choosing a plan.
