You can run a math tutoring broadcast with OBS by building a lesson scene, connecting OBS to YouTube Live Control Room, and starting the encoder. For a 24/7 channel, plan around shorter sessions rather than relying on one endless stream: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR may be limited or unavailable. Keep local recordings if complete replays matter.
Check that your channel can livestream
Before configuring OBS, confirm that the channel is verified and eligible for live streaming. YouTube’s current guidance requires no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days and says streamers must be at least 16. Build an OBS scene for teaching math
Make the mathematics easy to read on a phone as well as a desktop. A practical scene can include a large writing or equation area, the instructor’s camera if it helps the lesson, and a restrained label for the topic or session. OBS can combine overlays with input from microphones and cameras; a drawing tablet is one possible way to write equations, but check that any device and driver work with your computer and OBS before relying on them.

- Prioritize legible notation and enough contrast between writing and background.
- Keep the instructor’s voice clear and check that writing or screen changes do not obscure the equation.
- Use a brief slate or on-screen topic label so viewers arriving mid-lesson can tell what is being taught.
- Do not show textbook pages, commercial problem-bank material, or play background music unless you have the rights needed for a livestream.

Connect OBS to YouTube and start the broadcast
- Create or schedule the stream: In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab to create a stream or Manage to schedule one. Scheduling gives viewers a watch page they can find ahead of time and allows them to set reminders.
- Connect OBS: YouTube provides a server URL and stream key for encoder setup. In OBS, choose the YouTube integration or YouTube RTMPS service if available; otherwise enter the server destination and key in the stream settings. - Protect the key: Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish or share it with viewers; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to the stream.
- Start the encoder and verify the signal: Start streaming in OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming signal and preview to appear. For a scheduled stream, start the broadcast from Live Control Room when ready; verify that the public watch page is live.

Run a 24/7 channel as planned sessions
A single uninterrupted broadcast is not a dependable way to preserve a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need complete replays, organize the schedule into shorter sessions: end each deliberately, check the archive, then start the next scheduled session. This is a practical response to YouTube’s archive and DVR caveats, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Keep a local recording when the lesson must be preserved; YouTube recommends a local backup. Check that your recording has usable audio and video, and allow sufficient disk space for your chosen settings.

- Give each session a clear topic and scheduled start so students can find the right lesson.
- Use a short transition or slate when a session ends, rather than leaving viewers unsure whether the lesson is still active.
- Keep local copies of lessons you cannot afford to lose, and verify that the files play correctly.
Choose audience settings and plan for interaction
Set the audience designation to reflect the content and intended viewers; do not choose a setting just to retain chat or other features. When a stream is marked Made for Kids, YouTube disables live chat and Super Chat and disables personalized ads on livestreams, though contextual ads may appear. YouTube also says live chat may be disabled when a stream features 13–15-year-olds who are not visibly accompanied by an adult. Review the current policy if minors are involved. If chat is available, plan how it will be moderated, particularly when students may be minors. YouTube provides live-stream moderation tools, but the channel owner must decide who will monitor participation and how to handle inappropriate comments.

Understand replay, watch hours, and monetization
YouTube lists live ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible monetization features for eligible channels. Eligibility and feature availability depend on YouTube’s rules, and ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. A continuous stream does not establish predictable earnings.
