You can run a continuous Marathi music livestream by hosting the playlist and FFmpeg on a Linux VPS, then sending the encoded video to YouTube over RTMPS. The VPS keeps the encoder running when your home computer is off; YouTube handles viewer playback and delivery. Start with a modest test stream, confirm you have the rights to every track and visual, and monitor both the VPS process and YouTube stream health. No single VPS size or setup guarantees uninterrupted service.
What you need—and what the VPS does
The basic setup is a Linux VPS, your Marathi music and visual assets, FFmpeg, and a way to supervise and restart the streaming process. FFmpeg reads and encodes or packages the media; the VPS provides the always-on host and outbound connection. YouTube receives the stream and distributes it to viewers.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled.
- Music and visual assets you own or are licensed to stream and archive in the relevant territories.
- A Linux VPS with enough sustained CPU, storage, and outbound transfer for the actual workload.
- FFmpeg and a service manager or equivalent supervisor configured to restart a failed process.
- A secure place to store the YouTube ingest URL and stream key.
YouTube does not specify a universal CPU, RAM, or VPS price for this task. A still cover image with stereo music is a smaller encoding workload than high-motion 1080p or 4K video, but the right plan depends on the media, encoding settings, provider limits, and sustained network performance. Benchmark your actual playlist before committing to a plan. See the FFmpeg documentation and YouTube’s encoder settings.
Clear music and visual rights before streaming
Confirm that your rights cover livestreaming and any archive, in every territory where the content will be available. Keep written evidence of permissions and licenses. Owning or licensing music does not guarantee that YouTube will recognize your channel as authorized during an automated match.

YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A detected match may replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it. If you have a license for third-party music, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before a long test. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube reviews a channel’s content for originality and reused content; permission to play songs does not itself make a channel eligible for the YouTube Partner Program. The policy says collections of songs from different artists may fail reused-content review even when the creator has permission. Original music, meaningful curation or commentary, and a distinctive presentation can add viewer value, but YouTube makes the eligibility decision. Its policy describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content” and says it has always been ineligible under the existing policy. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Enable YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming for the channel. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Create or schedule a livestream in YouTube Studio and locate its stream settings. Copy the YouTube ingest/server URL and stream key for your encoder.
- Store the key as a secret, such as in a protected environment file or secret manager accessible only to the streaming account. Treat it like a password: do not put it in a public script or repository, screenshot, or ordinary log. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Use the RTMPS ingest URL as the starting point for an ordinary software-encoder stream. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the stream in transit. HLS and DASH have other codec and higher-resolution use cases, but YouTube’s protocol comparison notes their greater segment-based latency than RTMP. Check the YouTube ingestion protocol comparison if you have a specific reason to use another protocol.
Choose a test configuration, then measure the VPS
For a first test, use 720p30 H.264 video at YouTube’s recommended 6 Mbps video bitrate, constant bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. The 6 Mbps figure is YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrate for 720p30—not a minimum VPS plan, a complete bandwidth budget, or a guarantee of picture quality. Allow for audio, protocol overhead, other traffic, and the VPS provider’s transfer limits. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings.
For a music channel using a static image or restrained visual, higher resolution may not make the stream more useful to viewers. A higher target can increase encoding load and data transfer, so choose settings that suit the visual and test them rather than assuming more pixels are better. YouTube advises testing with representative audio and motion and monitoring stream health.

- Measure sustained CPU use while FFmpeg processes representative tracks and visuals.
- Check memory, free disk space, and how much storage the playlist occupies.
- Verify sustained outbound connectivity and the provider’s transfer allowance for continuous streaming.
- Inspect audio levels and listen for gaps, clipping, or abrupt loop transitions.
- Review YouTube’s stream-health feedback during a private or unlisted test before going public.
The precise FFmpeg command depends on your files, whether they need re-encoding, the visual treatment, and the chosen settings. Build it for those inputs, keep the stream key out of the command’s public or logged text where practical, and validate the output in a short test rather than copying a one-size-fits-all command.
Keep the stream process running and recover deliberately
Run FFmpeg under a service manager or another process supervisor configured to restart it after a failure or VPS reboot. Capture logs, but ensure they do not disclose the stream key. Add a simple process or stream-health check and an alert so a restart does not go unnoticed.

A supervisor can restart a local process; it cannot prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy, visible stream. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicator as well as the VPS logs, outbound connectivity, disk space, and CPU. Rehearse a VPS reboot and recovery while the channel is in test mode. Schedule maintenance rather than assuming a process will run forever without attention. YouTube recommends advance testing and monitoring, but neither a VPS nor a restart policy guarantees uninterrupted service.

YouTube automatically archives livestreams shorter than 12 hours. Do not rely on a single continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours becoming a complete archived video. If keeping a full program archive matters, make separate recordings or plan shorter stream sessions and verify that each recording is retained as intended. The threshold is documented in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
