You can run a nonstop Hindi devotional video stream from a Linux VPS by sending a looping, rights-cleared program to a YouTube Live event with FFmpeg. Create the event in YouTube Studio, pair FFmpeg with its server URL and stream key, choose an output bitrate the VPS can sustain, and monitor both FFmpeg and YouTube’s stream health. A VPS can keep the encoder running without a home computer, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted playback: network failures, process exits, YouTube alerts, and event duration still need attention.

How the VPS-to-YouTube setup works

FFmpeg encodes or passes through your media and sends it over RTMPS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, the live event is associated with an incoming stream feed; the encoder uses the server URL and stream key shown for that feed. RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended secure extension of RTMP. YouTube’s encoder settings describe the supported connection and encoding guidance, while its live encoder setup guide explains the Studio workflow.

The method below is for a pre-recorded devotional program—such as bhajans, kirtan, Gurbani, or other Hindi devotional video—not a live camera feed. “Nonstop” describes your intended schedule, not a guarantee that one YouTube event will stay live or archive indefinitely.

Before you start: clear the media and choose the schedule

Confirm rights to every part of the program

Check that you have the applicable permission to broadcast and archive each sound recording, composition, video, image, and other visual asset. Devotional subject matter, traditional lyrics, a free download, or a recording found online does not by itself establish those rights. YouTube says a live stream may be terminated if the channel receives a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams. This is not jurisdiction-specific legal advice.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Plan around YouTube event and archive behavior

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited help page does not promise that a longer continuous transmission will be archived as one uninterrupted replay. If replay archives matter, plan event duration and turnover deliberately, then verify current behavior in Live Control Room rather than assuming a stream can run and archive forever. YouTube’s setup guide also notes that live-stream monetization is available to channels in the YouTube Partner Program; creating an event alone does not enable earnings.

Choose resolution and bitrate for the VPS connection

YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval (four seconds maximum). The bitrate figures below are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations and stated minimums, not guarantees that a particular VPS network can sustain them. Leave headroom for audio, protocol overhead, and throughput variation; test the actual server path before relying on it. YouTube’s encoder settings page was accessed in 2026.

Output Recommended H.264 bitrate Stated minimum
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 2 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 6 Mbps 3 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps 5 Mbps

Choose a target no higher than the VPS can sustain continuously. A plan’s advertised or nominal bandwidth does not establish steady upload performance. Consider the provider’s CPU allocation, sustained throughput, monthly transfer policy, storage, region, and service terms before choosing a plan; no particular provider or minimum VPS specification is established here.

Set up YouTube Live and protect the stream key

  1. Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or select the stream/event using the available Live Control Room workflow.
  2. Copy the connection details: Copy the server URL and current stream key displayed for the stream. YouTube’s workflow uses both to pair the encoder with the incoming feed.
  3. Keep the key secret: Treat it like a password. Do not put it in a public command example, shared screenshot, repository, or log. Avoid exposing it in shell history; use a protected configuration or secret-injection method appropriate to your server. If it is exposed, replace or rotate the key in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  4. Confirm the event workflow: Check whether the event is scheduled or intended to go live immediately, and follow the controls presented in Studio. Wait for the incoming preview and health status before relying on the broadcast.

Labels and event controls can change in YouTube Studio. Follow the current Live Control Room screen for the selected stream rather than assuming every event has identical controls. The YouTube LiveStreams API documentation describes incoming streams as feeds that can be associated with one or more broadcasts.

Prepare the Linux VPS and media files

  1. Install FFmpeg: Use an up-to-date FFmpeg build from a trusted source supported by your Linux distribution. Confirm it is available with ffmpeg -version.
  2. Place media in stable storage: Store the loop video and any accompanying files somewhere the service account can read. Check free disk space and ensure the files remain available after logout or reboot.
  3. Inspect the inputs: Use ffprobe or FFmpeg’s input information to check container, video/audio codecs, resolution, frame rate, and audio tracks. Decide whether to transcode or copy streams only after checking compatibility.
  4. Test the VPS path: Run a representative test with the intended audio and motion, then inspect YouTube’s preview and stream-health indications. The VPS’s region and advertised bandwidth alone do not establish that the end-to-end stream is stable.

Transcoding can normalize output to a chosen format but consumes VPS CPU. Stream copy avoids re-encoding, but works only when the source streams and packaging are compatible with the destination; it will not repair incompatible media. Neither option has a universal CPU or RAM requirement established by YouTube for this workflow.

Configure FFmpeg to loop and send the program

Use a loop-capable input and an RTMPS destination. The example below shows the shape of a transcoding command, not a universal preset: replace the input path, server URL, and key with your own values, and validate the selected codec options against your FFmpeg build and YouTube’s current guidance. Do not paste a real key into a public script or shell history.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /srv/media/devotional.mp4
  -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 3000k -maxrate 3000k -bufsize 6000k
  -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 48000
  -f flv "rtmps://SERVER-URL/STREAM-KEY"

This illustrative command targets 720p30 only if the input or an added scaling filter produces that frame size; it sets a two-second GOP at 30 fps. Set the video bitrate and frame size to the quality you selected, use CBR behavior, and keep the aggregate stream within sustained capacity. The sample’s placeholder destination must be replaced with YouTube’s actual RTMPS server URL and the secret key; never publish the substituted command. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio in its encoder guidance, but use a combination supported by your chosen FFmpeg build and stream setup.

If the source is already compatible and you choose stream copy, the encoding options above do not apply as written. Copying may reduce encode work, but it does not make an incompatible source acceptable; test the exact file and inspect Live Control Room’s incoming preview and health status. YouTube recommends representative testing, stream-health monitoring, and reviewing alerts. See the current encoder requirements and recommendations.

Keep the stream running and monitor it

Run FFmpeg under a service manager or other supervision method so you can observe process status and restart after an exit. A restart policy can bring an encoder process back after a crash, but it does not prove that viewers experienced uninterrupted video, that the VPS network recovered, or that YouTube accepted the reconnect. Check all of these independently:

  • Encoder: Is FFmpeg still running, and are its logs reporting input, encoding, or connection errors?
  • Network: Is the server still sending data, and can it sustain the chosen output rate?
  • YouTube: Does Live Control Room show a healthy incoming feed, preview, or alert?
  • Program: Does the loop continue at its boundary, with audible sound and no unintended gap or frozen frame?
  • Event and replay: Is the selected event still active, and does the archive behavior match the schedule you planned?

Use a protected log location and make sure diagnostic output cannot reveal the stream key. There is no evidence here for a watchdog, VPS configuration, or process manager that guarantees a continuous viewer experience.

Estimate transfer use and operating cost

At a constant encoded bitrate, a nonstop stream transfers substantial data over a month. Estimate usage from the combined video and audio bitrate and the length of operation, then check how the VPS provider counts transfer. Account for protocol overhead and bitrate variation; do not assume an advertised monthly allowance or a generic usage estimate applies to your plan. Also account for storage and CPU if you transcode. No provider pricing or plan allowance is established here.

Troubleshoot common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
YouTube does not show an incoming preview Wrong server URL or key, encoder not connected, or event setup mismatch Recheck the current URL and key in Live Control Room, confirm FFmpeg is running, and inspect connection errors without exposing the key.
Stream health shows warnings or the picture stalls Unstable throughput, bitrate too high for the path, or VPS resource pressure Test sustained network output and CPU use; lower resolution or bitrate to a level the VPS can maintain, then test again with representative content.
FFmpeg exits or repeatedly reconnects Input read failure, incompatible media, resource exhaustion, or network interruption Inspect protected logs and input files, verify available disk and CPU capacity, and test the source independently. A supervisor can restart the process but cannot fix the underlying cause.
Audio is missing or the output is incompatible Unexpected source tracks, unsupported codec/container combination, or invalid mapping Inspect streams with FFprobe, specify the intended audio track, and transcode to a compatible audio codec such as AAC when needed.
The stream runs but no single complete replay appears The event exceeded YouTube’s stated automatic-archive threshold or archive behavior differed from expectations Plan around the under-12-hour archive guidance and verify the current event/archive behavior in Studio; the cited help page does not promise one uninterrupted archive for longer streams.
A devotional track or video triggers enforcement Rights or policy issue affecting a recording, composition, or visual asset Stop using the disputed material unless you can establish the necessary permissions, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and Community Guidelines notices.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want the devotional program to keep looping without maintaining a VPS and FFmpeg process yourself, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, with one free day per account. Monthly is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide.
