To rotate artwork while a YouTube music radio stream continues, add OBS Studio’s Image Slide Show source to your scene, load the images, set an automatic interval, and leave looping on. OBS sends the finished picture and audio to YouTube; YouTube Studio does not rotate the artwork for you.
Set up an automatic image slideshow in OBS
- Prepare your artwork. Put the images you want to use in one folder, or plan to add them individually. OBS’s Image Slide Show source supports BMP, TGA, PNG, JPEG, JPG, and GIF files. Only use images you have permission to broadcast.
- Add the source. In OBS, select the scene for your radio stream. In the Sources dock, click the + button and choose Image Slide Show. Add the image files or a directory containing them.
- Choose automatic rotation. Set Slide Mode to automatic, then set Time Between Slides to the interval you want. Choose a transition and its speed. OBS’s documented defaults are 8,000 milliseconds between slides, a 700-millisecond transition speed, and Fade; these are starting defaults, not ideal timings for every station. A longer interval may suit album artwork, but the choice is yours.
- Set the order and loop behavior. Keep Loop enabled to restart the slideshow after its last image. Randomize Playback is off by default, so the files play in list order; enable it if you prefer a shuffled sequence.
- Fit the artwork to your scene. Select the slideshow source and reposition or resize it in the preview. OBS also documents a fit-to-screen command in its Sources Guide. Check that text and important details are visible and not covered by other scene elements.
- Test before the long run. Preview the scene and test the complete outgoing stream with audio and video behavior similar to the planned broadcast. Confirm the artwork changes as expected and watch YouTube’s stream-health messages before leaving the stream unattended.
Understand the slideshow timing
Time Between Slides is the time an image is shown before OBS initiates the next transition. Transition speed is a separate control: OBS states that the transition speed is not extra time added to the interval. With the default Fade, the change begins before the next image is fully visible, so judge the timing by previewing the actual scene rather than treating the two settings as one combined duration.
Choose between fixed and rotating artwork

Check YouTube delivery separately
The slideshow controls govern the picture in OBS; they do not replace encoder settings or confirm that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. Its live encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and lists RTMP/RTMPS protocols, H.264/H.265/AV1 video options, AAC or MP3 audio, and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds that should not exceed 4 seconds. For a 1080p30 H.264 stream, YouTube’s guidance verified in 2026 lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; consult the current encoder table because these specifications may change.
If YouTube reports missing audio or video, or insufficient video delivery, check the Live Control Room’s stream-health readout and the encoder feed. An artwork source setting is not necessarily the cause of a delivery problem.

Keep a 24/7 stream running
OBS can rotate artwork, but a conventional OBS setup depends on the computer running the encoder. A VPS running FFmpeg is another possible unattended approach, but it is separate infrastructure and does not guarantee uninterrupted service.
