It depends on which playlist you mean. In Castr TV Playout, you can change an upcoming item while the schedule runs, but you should disable the playout before changing the item marked LIVE; then click Set Schedule to apply the schedule again. Castr’s standard playlist guide does not document replacing an entry during playback. For a playlist managed on YouTube, remove the old video and add the intended one; YouTube documents reordering and removal, not an in-place replace command.
First identify which playlist you are editing
“Castr YouTube playlist” can refer to different workflows. Castr’s standard playlist is managed in the Castr dashboard. Castr TV Playout is a scheduled broadcast sent to a Castr livestream destination, which may be connected to YouTube. A native YouTube playlist is managed on YouTube itself. The right procedure depends on where the item appears and whether it is currently on air.

Change an item in Castr TV Playout
Use this workflow if you are editing a Castr TV Playout schedule. Castr’s help article, “Introducing TV Playout – What is it & How to create one?” (July 13, 2026), specifically cautions: “Do not replace or move content that is currently playing (LIVE) on the TV Playout.”
If the item is upcoming
- Open the TV Playout schedule in the Castr dashboard and identify the item you want to change. Confirm it is not the item marked LIVE.
- Replace or move the upcoming content item in the schedule.
- Click Set Schedule to apply the updated timetable.
If the item is marked LIVE
- Disable the TV Playout before changing the live item.
- Make the required replacement or move in the timetable.
- Click Set Schedule to apply the changed schedule, then activate the schedule again.
Do not treat the on-air item like an upcoming entry: Castr’s guidance distinguishes the currently playing content from the rest of the timetable.

What to do in a standard Castr playlist
Castr’s “Create Playlist for Your Content” guide (May 31, 2026) describes adding livestream or VOD content and configuring autoplay, loop, and shuffle. It does not specify a replacement control or a safe sequence for swapping an existing entry while playback is underway. If you are in this standard playlist interface, check the current dashboard for an available control or ask Castr support rather than assuming that removing and re-adding an item is safe during playback.
Change a video in a native YouTube playlist
If the list is a YouTube playlist—not a Castr TV Playout schedule—YouTube’s desktop instructions provide separate actions to remove a video and reorder playlist entries. Use those documented actions to remove the unwanted item and add the intended video, then verify where it sits in the playlist. YouTube’s reviewed instructions do not describe replacing a video in place.

- Open the playlist on YouTube and locate the video to remove.
- Use that video’s More menu and choose the removal action.
- Add the intended video to the playlist.
- Check the playlist order; YouTube documents dragging an item to reposition it.
Common snags
- You cannot find the same controls in YouTube and Castr. Confirm which interface owns the list. A TV Playout timetable is not the same object as a native YouTube playlist.
- The item is locked by its on-air status. If it is marked LIVE in TV Playout, disable the playout before changing it; upcoming entries do not have this restriction in Castr’s guidance.
- Your timetable edit does not take effect. After changing a TV Playout timetable or destination, click Set Schedule to apply the change.
- You expect a Replace button in a standard Castr playlist. The reviewed Castr guide does not document that operation. Avoid guessing at a playback-time edit; consult the current dashboard or Castr support.
