Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For one local fireplace video, create a simple OBS scene, add the clip as a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. Then choose output settings your platform, internet connection, source footage, and computer can sustain. There is no universal “best” bitrate or resolution for every setup; test the real scene and stream before leaving it live.
Build a simple looping fireplace scene
- In OBS, create a dedicated scene for the fireplace broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and select the local video file.
- Enable Loop so playback restarts when the clip ends. OBS’s Media Source supports common video and audio formats and includes playback options such as restarting when visible, hardware decoding when available, hiding at end of playback, and closing the file while inactive. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Keep the crackling fire audio in the video or add a separate audio source. Confirm the intended source is active and watch the Audio Mixer meters while it plays.
- Preview the scene and check that the fire is framed correctly and the audio is at the intended level.
When to use a VLC Video source
For a playlist of fireplace clips, a VLC Video source can provide playlist control and has loop-playlist behavior enabled by default in its documented source settings. VLC must be installed. For one local clip, Media Source is the simpler option. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
Choose output settings for your platform and setup
Set output resolution to the target you intend to stream, and choose a frame rate the source and computer can sustain. Check the platform’s current stream requirements and bitrate limits rather than treating a general OBS example as a platform-specific prescription. OBS’s overview discusses 30 and 60 FPS as examples, notes the extra load 60 FPS may impose, and gives about 160 kbps as general audio-bitrate guidance; it also says lower audio bitrates may suit limited upload. That overview guidance is dated, so confirm current requirements before setting your stream. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
30 or 60 FPS?
Use 30 FPS if it gives you a stable stream and the motion looks right for the footage. Consider 60 FPS only if the source and system can sustain it and the smoother motion is worth the added demand. OBS specifically cautions that 60 FPS can be more taxing than 30 FPS.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Bitrate and upload stability
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide suggests starting video bitrate at 75% of total upload speed, then lowering it if dropped frames persist. Treat that as a diagnostic starting point, not a guarantee: upload speed can fluctuate, and the usable bitrate must also fit the streaming service’s limits. See OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point
OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help establish initial settings by considering your intended use, computer hardware, and network conditions. It cannot replace a test of the actual scene and stream. Run it, then verify the result under the conditions you plan to use. See the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard guide.

Test reliability before leaving the stream running
- Enable Automatic Reconnect in OBS’s Advanced settings. This helps OBS reconnect after a disconnection; it does not promise uninterrupted service. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
- Run a test stream and verify the clip loops cleanly, the fire stays visible, and the crackling audio plays at the intended level. OBS recommends testing the configuration before a first live stream.
- Watch OBS’s dropped-frame counter. OBS says dropped frames indicate an unstable connection to the ingest server or an inability to sustain the selected bitrate. Lower the bitrate and, where appropriate, try another server or service.
- Keep the scene lean. OBS composites scenes using GPU resources, so unnecessary sources, complex browser overlays, or media much larger than the output requires can increase system load. See the OBS Encoding Performance Troubleshooting guide.
- If viewers report buffering while OBS shows no dropped frames, review bitrate, resolution, frame rate, and possible platform transcoding or viewer-device constraints. See the OBS Streaming Issues guide.
These checks can reduce avoidable load and help diagnose problems, but they do not establish a continuous-uptime guarantee or a single hardware requirement for a 24/7 fireplace scene.
Troubleshoot the common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The clip stops at the end | Loop is not enabled on the Media Source. | Open the source’s properties, enable Loop, and preview the end-to-start transition. |
| No crackling is audible | The intended audio source may be inactive, absent, or not producing a signal. | Check the source and Audio Mixer meters during playback; confirm the clip includes audio or that the separate audio source is active. |
| OBS shows dropped frames | The connection to the ingest server may be unstable, or the chosen bitrate may exceed what the connection can sustain. | Lower the video bitrate, check the platform’s bitrate limits, and consider a different server or service if appropriate. OBS’s 75%-of-upload suggestion is only a starting point. |
| Viewers report buffering but OBS shows no dropped frames | The stream’s bitrate, resolution, or frame rate may not suit delivery conditions, or viewer-side devices and platform transcoding may be factors. | Test a lower-demand output combination and check the platform’s current guidance; do not assume the OBS counter captures every viewer-side issue. |
| Playback or rendering strains the computer | Too many sources, complex overlays, oversized media, or a demanding frame rate can raise system load. | Remove unnecessary sources, use media closer to the target output size, and consider whether 30 FPS is sufficient. |
| The connection drops | Network or ingest interruptions can stop transmission. | Enable OBS Automatic Reconnect and monitor the stream during a test. Reconnect reduces manual recovery work but does not guarantee uninterrupted uptime. |
Run OBS yourself or keep the YouTube stream in the cloud?
OBS is the do-it-yourself route: the media source plays on your computer, which must stay powered and connected for the stream to continue. If you want the uploaded fireplace video to keep playing without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for YouTube streams. It loops uploaded videos, not live camera feeds.
