Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor a local multi-video playlist in OBS, use the VLC Video source, confirm VLC is installed and matches OBS’s bitness, check the playlist and scene visibility settings, then test a file boundary in a short stream. OBS documents VLC Video as its playlist-capable source, but does not guarantee gap-free transitions for every file or setup—so there is no single checkbox that can be promised to fix every black screen.
Choose the right OBS source for multiple videos
In the scene you actually send to YouTube, identify the source playing the videos. OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes VLC Video as a source that can play a list of items as a playlist. It requires VLC to be installed before the source type appears in OBS; OBS’s documentation specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
The built-in Media Source is documented around a selected media file and its playback properties. It is appropriate when you intend to play one file, but OBS does not present it as the multi-item playlist option. The documentation lists video file types including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM, and audio types including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. That list does not guarantee every codec or damaged file will decode correctly, so test the actual files in your setup.
| Source | Playlist handling | Dependency and trade-off | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media Source | Documentation covers a selected file and its end-of-playback behavior; it does not identify this as the multi-item playlist option. | Built into OBS. Includes “Show nothing when playback ends.” | Playing one file, or a separately designed scene/source arrangement. |
| VLC Video | Plays a list of media items as a playlist. | Requires VLC installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Includes loop, shuffle, visibility and caching controls. | A local multi-file playlist. |
Check playlist order and continuation settings
Open the VLC Video source’s properties and verify that every intended file is present and in the right order. Turn Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence. Loop Playlist controls whether playback starts again after the final item; it governs repetition, not frame-perfect transitions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
VLC Video also has visibility behavior for when the source is not visible, with documented choices that include continuing, pausing or stopping playback, and a network-caching setting. OBS documents a 400 ms default for network caching. For local files, first make sure the source remains active and visible. The documentation does not say that increasing network caching fixes a gap between local files.
Inspect end-of-file behavior and scene layers
Understand the Media Source end setting
For Media Source, OBS documents Show nothing when playback ends: when enabled, the source hides after that file finishes rather than holding its final frame. If it is the only video layer, hiding it may leave a blank scene; if another layer is behind it, that layer may show instead. This is documented Media Source behavior, not an established fix for transitions within a VLC playlist. Check what happens in your own scene before changing it.

Check which sources cover the playlist
In OBS’s Sources dock, higher entries render above lower entries and may obscure them. If the image disappears at a boundary, inspect whether a color, image, browser or other visible source sits above the playlist source. The OBS Sources Guide explains source stacking; it cannot identify which source, if any, is covering your playlist.
Reduce avoidable load and test the stream path
- Check whether the problem is playback or system load. If video stutters or fails as well as going black, simplify a complex scene and limit resource-heavy sources. OBS’s Encoding Performance Troubleshooting guidance recommends limiting costly sources and using appropriately sized media where the output does not need higher resolution. Treat these as diagnostic steps, not a guaranteed cure for a particular black frame.
- Test an actual file boundary. Run a short test stream and watch at least one transition in the output. OBS’s Quick Start Guide encourages a test of a few minutes before streaming. Compare the OBS preview or output with the YouTube viewer: that can help distinguish a blank in the source/scene from a viewer-side quality change.
- Note where the symptom occurs. Record whether OBS itself shows black, whether only the YouTube viewer does, and whether it happens at every boundary or only with particular files. This narrows the investigation to source visibility, a specific media file, or the viewer’s rendition without assuming a cause.
Keep YouTube transcoding separate from a source gap
OBS says YouTube transcodes streams, including the source feed. Its Transcodes / Transcoding article discusses consistent keyframe intervals to help smooth changes between viewer quality options. That guidance concerns rendition changes; it does not identify keyframe intervals as a fix for a local VLC playlist transition.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded documentary videos playing on a YouTube channel without leaving OBS and a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not camera feeds, and streams to YouTube only. It does not fix an OBS local-playlist boundary; it avoids relying on that local playback setup.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: playback runs in the cloud.
- Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
