That lets you adjust or mute each independently, monitor the mix, and record a rehearsal to check before broadcasting. Set up the audio first; separately confirm that the music license covers YouTube live use and any replay.
Set up the voice-and-music mix in OBS
1. Add the microphone and music playback
Add the presenter’s microphone and the computer’s music playback output as audio sources in OBS. Keep them separate where your operating system and setup allow it, so you can lower the music under speech or mute it for announcements. OBS’s Audio Mixer provides source-level faders and mute controls for managing that balance.
2. Set input levels before adjusting OBS
Start with the controls closest to each source: microphone gain on the mic or audio interface, and playback volume in the music application or operating system. Then use the OBS faders for the final mix. If you use a physical mixer, set its gain and channel levels before making finer adjustments in OBS.
3. Balance by meter and by ear
OBS’s Audio Mixer Guide suggests keeping speech in the upper part of the yellow meter range and background music in the green. Treat those ranges as guidance, not a substitute for listening: two sources that look similar on the meters may sound very different in the finished program. Keep speech from reaching the red region, where clipping can distort it.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
4. Monitor the signal and rehearse
Listen through headphones or another monitoring output at the source device, then use OBS Audio Monitoring to listen to the OBS mix. Check that the voice is clear over the music, the music is not unexpectedly loud, and both left and right channels work as intended. Record a session as you would normally run it, play the recording back, and fix any routing or balance problems before going live.
Check music rights before broadcasting
Audio routing does not grant permission to use a track. YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party matches. If it detects third-party content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; if it remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption: YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance explains the platform’s process.

YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place responsibility on the content provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of live content, including applicable music rights. Consider the specific tracks, territories, rights holders, and whether you will keep an archive or replay. The permission needed can depend on those details; a general “licensed” or “royalty-free” label does not establish that every use is covered.
Choose music with the actual use in mind
- YouTube Audio Library: YouTube describes Audio Library music and sound effects as copyright-safe, and its filters identify tracks that require attribution and those that do not. Creative Commons tracks require credit in the video description. The Audio Library page discusses use in videos, so check the selected track’s license and the live-stream terms rather than treating it as blanket clearance for every live format or off-platform use. Read YouTube’s Audio Library guidance.
- Creator Music: YouTube’s current help pages say Creator Music does not support licensing for live content, and its track-use details exclude live streams. Availability and supported regions can vary. Check the Creator Music FAQ.
- Other music libraries or direct licenses: Read the terms for live YouTube broadcasts, archived replays, territories, attribution, and Content ID handling. YouTube says it cannot vouch for music libraries other than its Audio Library; confirm directly with the rights holder whether your channel can be allowlisted.
Before you go live
- Confirm that the microphone and music appear as distinct sources in OBS and that each can be adjusted or muted.
- Listen to the monitored mix and replay a local recording; check speech clarity, music level, channel balance, and distortion.
- Verify that the track’s permissions cover the live broadcast and any archive or replay you plan to retain.
- If the music is licensed third-party content, ask the owner about adding your YouTube channel to its Content ID allowlist. A test broadcast does not establish that you have the necessary rights.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your radio show is a prerecorded program rather than a live microphone broadcast, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos on YouTube from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera or microphone feed, so it is not a replacement for the OBS voice-and-music setup above.
