You can make Windows open your streaming app when you sign in, but that does not guarantee your yoga meditation stream will resume playing. Turn on the app’s startup option, then test whether your specific service restores playback; if it opens paused, you will need to press Play.
Set the streaming app to open when you sign in
These startup controls apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11. They launch an app after you sign in; they do not, by themselves, restore the audio that was playing before a restart. Microsoft’s instructions are in Configure Startup applications in Windows.
- Use Settings: Open Start > Settings > Apps > Startup. Turn on the toggle for your streaming app if it appears.
- Or use Task Manager: Open Task Manager, select Startup apps, choose the streaming app, and select Enable.
- If the app is missing: Add a shortcut to the Startup folder. Type
shell:startupin File Explorer’s address bar to open the current user’s folder, or useshell:common startupfor the all-users folder. Add the app shortcut to the folder you intend to use.
Microsoft describes the setting’s effect as starting the app automatically when you sign in. It does not promise that the app will restore its previous playback state.
For Spotify desktop, enable its sign-in setting
Spotify’s desktop app has a separate startup option. Open the profile menu, choose Settings, scroll to Startup and window behaviour, and set Open Spotify as soon as you log into the computer to Yes. Spotify Community help last updated this instruction on June 25, 2026; it documents opening Spotify, not automatically resuming the last meditation stream. Check whether playback itself resumes
After changing the startup setting, save your work, restart Windows normally, sign in, and check the app. If the app opens but the meditation audio is paused, the startup setting is working as documented; start playback manually. The cited Windows and Spotify startup instructions do not establish a general automatic playback-resume control.
Do not confuse Spotify’s Autoplay with restart recovery. Spotify says Autoplay plays similar music when an album, playlist, or selection reaches its end. On desktop, find it under Profile menu > Settings > Autoplay. It is triggered by the end of a selection, not by a Windows restart. Details: Spotify Autoplay tracks.

Microsoft’s Focus sessions guidance explains linking Spotify and choosing audio for a session. Treat this as a deliberate listening routine, not a restart-recovery feature.
If you listen in a browser
Spotify’s web player supports current desktop versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, and Safari. If it is not working, Spotify suggests trying the desktop app. Its browser guidance does not say that playback state will survive a Windows restart. See Spotify web player help.

Troubleshoot the common cases
- The app does not open after sign-in: Confirm its toggle is on in Settings > Apps > Startup or that it is enabled under Task Manager’s Startup apps. If it is not listed, use a shortcut in the appropriate Startup folder.
- The app opens but audio is paused: Windows startup launch and playback restoration are separate behaviors. Press Play and check your streaming service’s own documentation for a playback-resume option; the cited sources do not confirm one for this situation.
- Spotify keeps playing after a playlist ends, but not after restart: Autoplay only addresses what follows the end of a selection. It does not turn on restart recovery.
- Audio starts when a computer wakes or reconnects to Bluetooth: A Microsoft Learn Q&A includes an individual report of Spotify restarting after wake and Bluetooth reconnection. That report concerns waking from sleep, not general restart behavior, and is not an established universal cause or fix. See the Microsoft Learn Q&A discussion.
