To make a seamless loop for a 24/7 YouTube music stream, edit the audio so its ending blends naturally into its beginning, audition that join repeatedly, then enable looping in OBS or another playback method. A loop setting repeats a file; it cannot repair a click, silence, volume dip, or awkward musical jump already in the edit.
Choose a loop point that suits the music
Start with audio you have the right to broadcast. Find a point where the music’s phrasing, sustained sound, or ambience makes an end-to-start transition plausible. A phrase ending in a sustained note or steady background texture may be easier to join than a passage with a sharp beat, a long reverb tail, or a distinctive opening.
Remove leading or trailing silence only when listening confirms it improves the transition. Do not cut into a note or ambience tail just to make the file’s endpoints line up. The goal is a convincing musical transition, not merely identical-looking waveforms.
Preview and edit the join in Audacity
Audacity can loop playback of a selected region, which is useful for repeatedly checking a transition as you edit. This is a preview aid; it does not set OBS or YouTube to repeat the finished file. See Audacity’s playback guide.

Crossfade two clips on one track
For adjacent clips on one track, Audacity’s Crossfade Clips effect uses an approximately equal selection from the end of one clip and the start of the next, then crossfades those regions. This is a straightforward way to soften a boundary between two sections. The effect is described in the Crossfade Clips manual.
Crossfade overlapping tracks
If you want more control over the overlap, put the ending and beginning on separate tracks, overlap them, select the overlap, and apply Crossfade Tracks. The Crossfade Tracks manual explains that workflow. Listen for whether the overlap preserves the musical phrase rather than creating a doubled beat or blurred rhythm.

Choose the fade shape by listening
A linear crossfade can sound quieter in the middle. An equal-power curve is designed to reduce that perceived dip, but it can increase peak level. Audacity discusses the trade-offs in its fade and crossfade guide. There is no universally correct crossfade duration: a long overlap may blur rhythm or phrasing, while a short one may leave the join obvious. Adjust the edit and compare results by ear.
Listen for a click, a sudden change in ambience, a volume dip or bump, a phasey sound, or a beat that seems to repeat. If a crossfade makes the music less natural, try a different edit point or overlap rather than assuming a longer fade will fix it.

Render and check the finished file
Export or render one finished media file, then test that file—not just the project timeline. The cited Audacity guidance does not establish one export format or fade duration for every source, so use a format and settings suitable for your streaming setup.
- Play across the end-to-start boundary several times.
- Check for unintended silence, missing audio, clipping, or an abrupt change in loudness.
- If the file includes video, inspect the boundary for a visible jump or blank frame as well as listening to the audio.
Set the file to repeat in OBS
- In OBS, add the finished local video or audio file as a Media Source in the scene you plan to stream.
- Enable the source’s Loop option. OBS describes this setting as restarting the media file once playback completes. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Play the source in the scene and verify that it is audible and, if applicable, visible. Check the end-to-start boundary in OBS as well as in the editor.
If you are repeating a playlist instead of a single media file, OBS’s VLC Video source offers a Loop Playlist option and requires VLC to be installed. This is a different setup from looping one Media Source file; the OBS guide covers both.

Start the YouTube Live stream
- Check that your channel is eligible for live streaming in YouTube Studio. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the server URL and stream key for your broadcast. Treat the key as private; anyone who has it may be able to stream to your channel.
- Enter the server URL and key in the encoder’s stream settings, start the OBS stream, and confirm that YouTube receives the feed and displays the expected preview. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this connection. YouTube says stopping the encoder feed ends the stream.
YouTube’s guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not establish that a 24/7 broadcast will produce one complete archived video, so do not rely on a single full-length archive for a stream that runs continuously.

Before broadcasting, verify that your rights or license cover the intended livestream and any archived copy. YouTube notes that even licensed third-party content may require the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A “copyright-free” label or purchase receipt alone does not guarantee that a track will avoid a claim.
Troubleshoot common loop problems
| What you hear or see | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| A click at the boundary | The edit cuts abruptly through audio, or the fade does not smooth the transition. | Try a different edit point or a crossfade, then audition the rendered file’s boundary repeatedly. |
| A volume dip halfway through the fade | A linear crossfade can dip in perceived loudness. | Try an equal-power fade and listen for a peak increase; revise the overlap if needed. |
| The beat or phrase sounds doubled or blurred | The overlap may be too long or the sections may not align musically. | Shorten or reposition the overlap, or choose another transition point. |
| The file plays once and stops | The source’s repeat option may not be enabled, or the wrong source may be looping. | Check Loop on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist for a VLC playlist, then verify playback in the active scene. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | The feed may not be started in OBS, or the server URL or stream key may be incorrect. | Check the encoder connection details in Live Control Room, start the feed, and confirm YouTube’s preview. |
| The live stream is interrupted after starting | YouTube may have identified third-party content or the channel may not meet live-stream eligibility requirements. | Review YouTube’s copyright notice and eligibility status; confirm that your rights cover the live and archived use and follow any allowlisting instructions. |
