How to Loop Videos in a 24/7 YouTube Livestream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop a video in a 24/7 YouTube livestream, send the repeating video feed to YouTube Live through an encoder or a cloud streaming service. YouTube’s ordinary Loop control only repeats a video for someone watching it; it does not create a livestream. YouTube describes encoder and cloud workflows in its encoder setup guidance.

First, distinguish watching a loop from broadcasting one

If you want a video to repeat while you watch it, use YouTube’s Loop control. On desktop, right-click the video and choose Loop. To repeat a playlist, use the playlist’s separate loop control. These controls affect playback on the watch page; they do not send a live broadcast to your channel. See YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists on a computer.

For an actual 24/7 live broadcast, an encoder or cloud service must continuously send the video feed to YouTube Live. The source can be a prerecorded video or playlist, but YouTube receives it as a live stream.

Choose how to keep the stream running

Approach What it depends on Best fit
Local encoder Your computer or hardware encoder, internet connection, and encoder remaining available. YouTube supports software and standalone hardware encoders. Creators who want direct control and can keep the equipment and connection running and monitor the broadcast.
Cloud streaming service A service that sends prerecorded video to YouTube from the cloud. YouTube’s encoder guidance identifies Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming without a dedicated PC. Creators who do not want a dedicated local computer to run the stream. Compare the service’s current features and terms before choosing.

YouTube’s documentation describes these workflows but does not establish a general cost or reliability comparison between local encoders and cloud services. Either way, plan who will check audio, video, and stream status during a long broadcast.

Set up a continuous prerecorded stream with an encoder

  1. Check channel readiness. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select a stream. If this is your first time going live, activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s current encoder setup guidance. Allow for that delay before a planned start.
  2. Prepare the repeating source. Choose the video or playlist you have permission to broadcast and configure your encoder or cloud workflow to repeat it continuously. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe one universal encoder or looping control, so the exact repeat setting depends on the encoder you choose.
  3. Copy the YouTube connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. The stream key is a credential that lets the encoder send a feed to your stream; protect it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio. See Manage live stream settings.
  4. Preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and check the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm the picture and audio are correct before starting the public broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming tips also recommend checking that the event is visible on channel and watch pages and on mobile devices.
  5. Start and monitor the broadcast. Start the stream from Live Control Room when the preview is ready. During the run, check audio and video quality and confirm that the encoder and network remain connected. YouTube recommends continuous quality monitoring; a network disruption can break a stream.

Plan bandwidth, rights, and the archive

  • Match bandwidth to the stream. YouTube says the stream’s bitrate must fit your available upload bandwidth. A connection interruption can break the broadcast, so check the encoder’s feed and network rather than assuming a long stream will recover on its own. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
  • Use content you are allowed to broadcast. Confirm that you have the rights to the video, music, and other included material. YouTube’s live-streaming tips emphasize safe, policy-compliant content. A loop does not change the rights or policy status of what it contains.
  • Do not rely on YouTube for a complete archive of a very long run. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all as an archive. If you need a complete copy, keep a local recording and check that it is growing during the broadcast. See Archive live streams.
  • Set viewer expectations about rewind. DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
