Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo log YouTube RTMP interruptions reliably, capture FFmpeg’s diagnostics and have a service manager record every FFmpeg process start and exit with a UTC timestamp. FFmpeg’s -report option writes a report with the command line and log output; redirected standard error gives you another retained diagnostic stream. These records help distinguish a connection interruption within one process from a process restart. They do not, by themselves, make an outgoing RTMP connection reconnect.
What to log—and what the logs can tell you
Use two records together:
- FFmpeg diagnostics: capture standard error and optionally use
-reportto retain FFmpeg’s report. These can show errors and other output from the running process. - Supervisor events: record each launch and exit, including UTC time, exit code or signal, and restart count. This lets you tell whether FFmpeg remained running through a connection problem or exited and was launched again.
A log is evidence, not recovery. The official FFmpeg documentation cited here describes options such as reconnect, reconnect_at_eof, and reconnect_streamed for the HTTP protocol. That does not establish a generic outgoing-RTMP reconnect switch for a YouTube publishing connection. FFmpeg Protocols Documentation
Capture FFmpeg output
This shell pattern enables FFmpeg’s report and appends standard error to a separate file:
ffmpeg -hide_banner -loglevel level+info -report
-i INPUT_OPTIONS_AND_SOURCE
OUTPUT_OPTIONS_AND_YOUTUBE_RTMP_URL
2>>/var/log/ffmpeg-youtube.log
Replace the placeholders with the input and output options for your stream. This is an operational pattern, not a tested command or a guarantee of RTMP recovery. Confirm that the installed FFmpeg build accepts the selected logging options, and consult documentation matching that build because options and defaults can change. Record the FFmpeg version and build alongside the service configuration.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Protect the reports
FFmpeg’s report includes the command line. If that command contains a source URL, token, or YouTube stream key, the report or shell logs may expose credentials. Restrict file permissions and access, avoid putting the key in shared logs, and rotate a compromised key in YouTube Live Control Room. Configure log rotation and retention so reports do not fill the host’s disk.
Choose a useful log level
level+info is a practical starting point for retaining informational output while diagnosing a stream. If it does not capture enough detail, raise verbosity temporarily during a controlled test; debug output can grow quickly, so monitor disk use and return to an appropriate level afterward.

Record process starts and exits separately
Run FFmpeg under a service manager or supervisor that records every launch and exit. For each event, retain the UTC timestamp, exit code or terminating signal, restart count, and relevant service-manager message. Keep these records outside the FFmpeg process so they remain available when FFmpeg exits. Do not treat an FFmpeg report’s start time alone as a substitute for a durable supervisor history.
For a 24/7 service, alert on missing output or progress, repeated restarts, disk exhaustion, and loss of YouTube stream health. FFmpeg logging does not itself notify an operator. Avoid starting a second publisher while the first may still be alive: duplicate processes can create confusing diagnostics and competing output. Verify that the old process has exited before a supervisor launches its replacement.

Make sure the YouTube ingest settings are sound
In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the current server URL and stream key into the encoder. If the key has been reset, update the encoder with the current one. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which it describes as encrypted to and through Google’s servers. Its published encoder guidance includes RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. Follow the applicable resolution, codec, and bitrate guidance for the stream you are sending, and monitor stream health and messages during the event. Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
Network capacity can look like a publishing failure. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available outbound bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom; a shared network may reduce what is available. Check the actual upload capacity during the stream and account for other traffic. Streaming tips

Test the failure path before relying on unattended streaming
- Use a controlled, unlisted stream. Record the FFmpeg version and build, relevant service configuration, and current YouTube ingest settings before testing.
- Observe the normal baseline. Check FFmpeg’s report and standard-error file, supervisor records, and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and messages.
- Interrupt the encoder’s network path deliberately. Watch whether FFmpeg stays alive, exits, or logs an I/O failure; then observe whether the supervisor restarts it and what timestamps and exit details it records.
- Check the event after the interruption. Confirm what Live Control Room reports and whether the event remains available. The official pages cited here do not specify whether repeated RTMP publisher disconnects preserve viewer session or event identity, so verify the behavior for your setup rather than assuming continuity.
- Test the backup path if you have one. YouTube recommends failover testing by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable and verifying rollover. Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that is an archive behavior, not a promise of continuous publishing or automatic reconnection. Create a live stream with an encoder

No report appears
- Check whether the FFmpeg process started and whether its working directory allows the report to be created.
- Check the installed build’s accepted options and permissions for the report and redirected log paths.
- Confirm that the process is not failing before it reaches the expected command options.
The log stops when the stream disconnects
- Check the supervisor’s independent start/exit record to determine whether FFmpeg exited or is still running.
- Inspect the exit code or signal and relevant FFmpeg output. A process restart and an interruption within a still-running process are different events.
- Check YouTube stream health, current ingest URL and key, and available outbound bandwidth.
FFmpeg exits but does not come back
- Confirm that the supervisor is configured to restart on the relevant exit conditions and that its restart policy is not exhausted or blocked by a delay.
- Check service-manager logs, permissions, configuration, and whether an older FFmpeg process is still running.
- Validate restart behavior in a controlled test; a successful process restart does not prove that YouTube event or viewer continuity is preserved.
The key or source credentials appear in a report
Restrict access to the affected logs, remove exposed copies according to your retention process, and reset the YouTube stream key if it was disclosed. Use a current key in the encoder configuration.
