The safest way to regain access to Netflix is to reset your password at netflix.com/loginhelp. Choose recovery by email or SMS, verify your account, create a new password, and keep Sign out all devices selected if Netflix offers that option. You can then sign in again on your phone, browser, TV, or streaming device.
If you only need temporary access and Netflix offers it on your device, you may be able to use a four-digit sign-in code instead of resetting the password.
Reset your Netflix password
- Open a browser and go to Netflix’s official password-help page.
- Select Email or Text Message (SMS). SMS recovery is available only when a mobile number is linked to the account and the option is supported for your account and region.
- Enter the email address or mobile number associated with the Netflix account.
- For email recovery, open the message from Netflix and select Reset your password. If you use SMS, enter the verification code Netflix sends you.
- Create a new password. It must be different from your previous password, and Netflix may reject passwords that are commonly used or known to have been compromised.
- Leave Sign out all devices selected if Netflix displays it, then save the new password. This is especially important if you suspect someone else may still be signed in.
- Return to the Netflix app or website and sign in using the new password. Replace the old saved password in your browser, phone, streaming device, or password manager.
An email reset link expires after 24 hours. An SMS verification code expires after 20 minutes, so complete the process promptly. Netflix’s recovery options and wording can change by account, country, and device.
If Netflix offers a sign-in code
A password reset is not always necessary. On some phones, tablets, computers, smart TVs, and TV-connected devices, Netflix lets you request a four-digit sign-in code by email or text.

Enter the primary account email address or phone number when prompted, then enter the code Netflix sends. Netflix says this code expires after 15 minutes. This option is useful when you have access to the account’s email or phone but do not remember the password.
On a TV, the available choices vary by model and Netflix interface. You may see a QR code, Send Sign-In Link, or Use Password Instead. A TV may also direct you to netflix.com/tv2. Apple TV may use netflix.com/atv. Follow the address shown on your own screen rather than assuming every TV uses the same flow.
The email or text message never arrived
Try these steps in order:
- Check the inbox associated with the Netflix account.
- Search the spam, junk, promotions, and other filtered folders.
- Confirm that you entered the correct email address or phone number.
- Add [email protected] to your email contacts, then request another message.
- Wait before repeatedly requesting new messages. Netflix says an email-provider delay can sometimes take up to five hours.
If an older reset link no longer works, delete previous Netflix reset emails, visit netflix.com/clearcookies, request a new reset message, and open the newest message only. Older links may have expired or been superseded.

If you forgot the Netflix email address or phone number
On netflix.com/loginhelp, select I don’t remember my email or phone. Netflix may offer account lookup using the first and last name on the account plus the payment-card number.
This payment-based recovery route is not universal. It may be available when Netflix bills the account directly by credit or debit card and may depend on your region. It may not work when the subscription is:
- billed by a mobile carrier, internet provider, or another third party;
- included in a package or bundle;
- paid with a gift card; or
- associated with a payment method that Netflix cannot use for this recovery option.
If a third party bills you, contact that provider or Netflix Customer Service through the official Netflix Help Center. Do not give your payment details to an unofficial recovery service.

Netflix shows a sign-up page instead of your account
If Netflix unexpectedly asks you to start a new membership, you may be using the wrong email address or phone number. Sign out or return to the Sign In page and try another address or number that might belong to the account.
A recent Netflix charge can indicate that the membership is active under a different email address. No recent charge may mean the account is no longer active, although gift cards, promotions, and third-party billing can make billing evidence less straightforward.
What to do when the password works on one device but not another
First confirm the basics:
- Type the account’s primary email address or phone number manually.
- Check that Caps Lock, language settings, and keyboard autocorrect are not changing the password.
- Try signing in at Netflix in a browser to distinguish an account problem from a device problem.
- Update or remove the old Netflix password saved in the browser, phone, TV, or password manager.
- Restart the Netflix app or device and install any available app or system updates.
If the credentials are correct but the browser still rejects the login, clear the Netflix cookie at netflix.com/clearcookies, then sign in again. If that does not help, troubleshoot the browser and home network rather than repeatedly changing the password.

Primary account email versus profile email
A secondary profile can have its own email address, but that address is not necessarily the account’s password-login identifier. Netflix may use a profile email to send a one-time sign-in code, while account-owner security actions and multi-factor authentication use the primary account contact method.
If a profile email does not work for password recovery, try the primary account email address or phone number. The account owner may need to complete security or billing-related recovery.
Protect the account after you recover it
- Use a unique password. Do not reuse the Netflix password on another website or app.
- Make it difficult to guess. Netflix recommends at least eight characters with a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Use a password manager. Netflix identifies password managers as a practical way to create and keep track of unique passwords.
- Review active access. Selecting Sign out all devices during the reset removes sessions that could remain active elsewhere. You will need to sign in again on devices you still use.
- Secure the recovery email and phone. Anyone who controls those recovery methods may be able to obtain a sign-in code or reset link.
Recognize fake Netflix recovery offers
Use Netflix’s own recovery page, not a website found in an unsolicited message or pop-up. Avoid anyone who asks for your Netflix password, requests remote access to your computer, or asks for payment-card information outside Netflix’s official recovery form.

Be particularly cautious with “Netflix password recovery” downloads and browser tools. They cannot legitimately bypass the account’s registered email, phone, or security controls and may instead steal credentials.
