The Dumpster Battle, do not assume that an old AMC, Fandango, or movie-site page means tickets are available. The film opened in U.S. cinemas on May 31, 2024, and the evidence available as of August 11, 2026 does not support an active nationwide theatrical run. A revival, fan event, or one-off screening is still possible, but it must be confirmed through a dated listing with a named theater and working ticket link.
For most viewers, the dependable legal option is to check the film’s official Crunchyroll streaming listing. If you want the manga version of the match, the story begins in Haikyu!! Vol. 34.

Is Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle still in theaters?
Practically speaking, the film’s regular U.S. theatrical engagement ended in 2024. Its North American theatrical release followed the Japanese premiere on February 16, 2024, with Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures handling the international rollout. The U.S. opening date was May 31, 2024. Crunchyroll’s release announcement confirms the theatrical date.
The domestic box-office record shows how quickly the normal engagement wound down: the film opened in 146 U.S. theaters, was reported in one theater by the July 25–28 weekend, and still appeared in one theater for August 1–4. That pattern is consistent with a completed theatrical cycle, not a movie currently playing nationwide. Box Office Mojo’s release record is useful historical evidence, although it cannot rule out a later special screening.

#1 Best Overall
Search engines may continue to display the film long after its regular run. A title page, an empty showtime tool, or an indexed ticket listing is not the same as a confirmed performance.
How to verify a real revival screening
If you want to see the Karasuno–Nekoma match on a big screen, use the following checks. They are especially important for older films, anime re-releases, and limited event screenings.
- Start with the official movie website. Open the official HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle site and enter your city or ZIP code in its showtime search. Treat a result as provisional until it shows a future date and can be followed to a theater or ticket provider.
- Check the theater’s own listing. The AMC title page retains information about the movie, including its runtime, rating details, and original U.S. release date. Select a specific nearby AMC theater and look for an actual future performance. The existence of the title page alone does not prove that AMC is currently showing it.
- Use Fandango only when it displays purchaseable inventory. The Fandango listing confirms that the title remains indexed. A genuine current listing should identify the theater, date, showtime, and a functioning ticket button. If those elements are missing, you have found a catalog page rather than a ticket opportunity.
- Search independent cinemas and anime-event calendars. Local art-house theaters, university cinemas, Japanese cultural organizations, and anime convention programs are more plausible sources for a future one-off screening than a general nationwide release calendar. No specific U.S. revival screening was verified in the research for this article.
What counts as a confirmed showtime?
- A date in the future—not only the original 2024 release date
- A named theater and location
- A specific showtime
- A working ticket-purchase or reservation path
- Consistent information on the theater’s own website, preferably with available seats
When listings conflict, prioritize the theater’s own schedule over a search-result snippet or an undated third-party title page. Event screenings can disappear quickly, so confirm the performance before traveling.

Where to watch HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle legally at home

What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Open the Crunchyroll service and search for the exact title. Confirm the listing for your country or region, because streaming rights, language options, subscription tiers, and availability can change. A third-party U.S. availability tracker has identified Crunchyroll, including the Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, as a streaming route and reported no free streaming option at the time of its check; its availability page should be treated as a guide rather than a permanent guarantee.
In practical terms, the safest workflow is:
- Search the live Crunchyroll catalog while signed out or with your location enabled.
- Check whether the film is available in your territory.
- Open the title page and confirm whether English subtitles, an English dub, or both are offered.
- Review the current account or subscription requirement before starting playback.
Do not infer that a movie is available merely because an old article, search result, or third-party listing mentions it. The live service page is the final check.

Where the film fits in the Haikyu!! watch order
HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle follows the fourth television season, Haikyu!! TO THE TOP. It adapts the long-awaited official match between Karasuno High and Nekoma High—the contest fans commonly call the “Dumpster Battle.”
For a first-time viewer, the most useful order is:
- Haikyu!! Season 1
- Haikyu!! Second Season
- Haikyu!! Third Season
- Haikyu!! TO THE TOP
- HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle
Earlier compilation movies, including Talent and Sense and Battle of Concepts, recap material from the television series. They are not substitutes for the fourth season if you want the fullest setup for the film. Crunchyroll’s official watch-order guide distinguishes the recap films from the main series and places The Dumpster Battle after TO THE TOP.

Where the Dumpster Battle begins in the manga
Readers who want to continue with the source material—or revisit the match in print—should begin with Haikyu!! Vol. 34. VIZ identifies Volume 34 as the volume where the Dumpster Battle begins and lists ISBN-13 978-1-9747-0780-5. VIZ’s page listed the paperback at $9.99 when captured, but prices, stock, sellers, and delivery options can change.
Rank #4
- The Help (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy)
Haikyu!! Vol. 34 manga is a sensible physical-product search for fans who want the manga chapter of the match rather than another uncertain theater listing. Use the VIZ page to confirm the volume and edition before buying, then check the current retailer listing for price and fulfillment.
Why old showtime pages are easy to misread
Movie databases are designed to preserve title information, not necessarily to signal current availability. A theater can retain a film page after its final showing, while a ticketing service may keep a title indexed for search, recommendations, or historical data. Official promotional websites may also retain a showtime widget whose location-specific result is stale.
That is why the following statements should not be treated as equivalent:
| What you see | What it proves |
|---|---|
| A movie title page | The service knows or previously knew about the film |
| A showtime-search form | The website can search for locations; it does not prove that results exist |
| A past date or old showtime | The film played at that time |
| A future date, theater, time, and ticket button | A potentially valid current screening—still worth confirming with the theater |
Best option depending on what you want
| Your goal | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Watch the movie now | Check the current Crunchyroll title page for your territory. |
| Find a rare big-screen showing | Search the official movie site, AMC, Fandango, and local independent theaters; confirm ticket inventory. |
| Watch the complete story first | Finish Haikyu!! TO THE TOP before the film. |
| Read the match in manga form | Start with VIZ’s Haikyu!! Vol. 34 listing. |
| Buy tickets immediately | Do so only after a named theater, future date, showtime, and functioning checkout are visible. |
