How to Livestream Pre-Recorded Videos on YouTube 24/7

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To livestream pre-recorded videos on YouTube around the clock, send them to YouTube Live through an encoder. For a do-it-yourself setup, use OBS on a computer, add your video or playlist, enable looping, and connect OBS to a YouTube stream with its stream URL and key. If you do not want a computer running at home, use cloud playout instead: StreamNeo is the first option to consider because it runs continuously from the cloud, streams uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

How do I livestream pre-recorded videos on YouTube 24/7?

There are two practical approaches: run an encoder such as OBS on a computer you maintain, or use a cloud service to play the videos for you. The local route gives you direct control and may use equipment you already own. Cloud playout avoids keeping a dedicated computer and home internet connection running.

Whichever route you choose, YouTube still receives a live encoder feed. You need an eligible channel, a YouTube Live stream configuration, compatible ingest settings, and the rights to transmit every video and audio track. YouTube’s Live Control Room is where you configure and monitor the stream.

Check channel eligibility and plan for the archive

  • YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions within the past 90 days. First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, according to YouTube Help.
  • YouTube automatically archives streams that are under 12 hours. If you need an automatic archive, schedule sessions shorter than 12 hours; the cited guidance does not promise an archive for a longer broadcast. See YouTube Help.
  • A long-running stream is not a substitute for preserving your source files. Keep your own copies of the videos and audio you are authorized to use.

Set up a 24/7 loop with OBS on a computer

  1. Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, complete channel verification and enable live streaming. If this is your first activation, allow up to 24 hours before relying on it.
  2. Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube describes a stream key as the encoder’s address and password. Keep it private; reset it if you think someone else has obtained it.
  3. Add your media in OBS. For one video, add a media source. For a rotation of multiple clips, add a VLC Video Source and choose the files or playlist. OBS documents the VLC source’s “Loop Playlist” option, which restarts the source when it runs out of media files. VLC must be installed for that source to work. See the OBS Project guide.
  4. Enable looping and check the rotation. Turn on “Loop Playlist” for the VLC source, then test the end of the playlist and its restart. Add more clips if you want a longer rotation before it repeats. Do not assume that adding a playlist automatically makes it loop.
  5. Set output to match the video and connection. In OBS, configure a resolution and frame rate your source and upstream connection can sustain, then set the encoder to H.264 and constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube’s published H.264 guidance gives 10 Mbps as recommended for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. The same table lists a 5 Mbps minimum for 1080p/30 and a 6 Mbps minimum for 1080p/60. These are encoder bitrate recommendations for those settings, not a general upload-speed guarantee; leave network headroom.
  6. Use the recommended keyframe interval and secure ingest. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Use RTMPS where available; YouTube recommends it as an encrypted extension to RTMP. Consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings for the full matrix of supported settings.
  7. Test and monitor. Start a private or otherwise suitable test stream with representative motion and audio. Check the Live Control Room’s stream health and confirm the video, sound, playlist restart, and connection behave as expected before leaving it unattended.
  8. Go live and maintain the setup. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm the feed appears in YouTube’s Live Control Room. The computer, OBS process, media files, and network all need to remain available for a local stream to continue.

Choose local OBS or cloud playout

Option Where playback runs What you manage Best fit
StreamNeo Cloud service for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube. Upload content, configure the YouTube stream key, and manage permissions and playlist content. It includes 24/7 looping and playlists, storage, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. A creator who wants continuous YouTube playout without an always-on home computer.
OBS local encoder Your computer. You maintain the computer, media, internet connection, OBS configuration, and encoder process. OBS supports looping a VLC playlist. A creator with a suitable computer who wants direct control and can keep the setup running.
Gyre Cloud service. Confirm playlist, restart, scheduling, pricing, and plan limits with the provider before committing; YouTube’s directory is not a full feature manual. YouTube’s verified-encoder directory identifies Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams, making it a relevant cloud option to investigate.
Upstream.so Cloud studio. Verify prerecorded playlist behavior and relevant service terms; the directory entry does not describe those controls in detail. YouTube’s verified-encoder directory lists it for 24/7 live video streaming, but does not establish the exact prerecorded-playlist workflow.
AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream Dedicated hardware. Confirm scheduling and unattended operation requirements with the vendor; the cited description establishes scheduled prerecorded playback, not all controls or economics for an unattended 24/7 loop. A broadcast buyer seeking scheduled prerecorded playback sent to YouTube Live without a computer.

YouTube’s directory describes Gyre and Upstream.so as encoder options; those listings are not an independent comparison or guarantee of plan features. See the YouTube verified encoder directory and check current provider documentation before choosing. For AJA’s scheduled hardware playback, see the AJA HELO Plus information.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

If you choose OBS but do not own a suitable computer, a mini PC for OBS livestreaming is one possibility. An existing computer or a cloud service may make a purchase unnecessary, and the evidence here does not establish a hardware specification or cost that will suit every stream.

Protect the stream from copyright and policy problems

Rights for a recording do not automatically mean you have permission to broadcast it live. YouTube’s livestream terms require the creator to hold the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music rights. YouTube scans live feeds for third-party matches and may temporarily interrupt or terminate a stream. For licensed third-party content, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance and its Terms of Service.
