How to Keep a StreamYard YouTube Stream Running 24/7

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

StreamYard does not document a native way to keep a YouTube stream looping unattended around the clock. A scheduled studio broadcast still needs someone to enter the studio and click Go Live. A scheduled pre-recorded broadcast can start automatically, but it ends when the video finishes—and StreamYard sets plan-based maximum video lengths. For an unattended, repeating stream, use a service built to loop uploaded videos from the cloud, such as StreamNeo.

What StreamYard scheduling does—and does not do

StreamYard offers two different workflows that can look like automation, but neither is documented as a continuous, unattended 24/7 loop.

Scheduled studio broadcast

Scheduling creates the YouTube event, but does not start the studio show by itself. StreamYard’s instructions say the host must access the studio and click Go Live at the scheduled time. This is the right workflow for a human-hosted documentary premiere, discussion, interview, or other live production where a person will be present.

Scheduled pre-recorded broadcast

A pre-recorded video can start automatically at its scheduled time and ends when the source video finishes. StreamYard’s published maximum video lengths are 2 hours on Core, 4 hours on Advanced, and 8 hours on Teams and Business. These are finite broadcasts, not a looping playlist that restarts indefinitely. Check StreamYard’s current plan details before scheduling, as plan limits can change.

In short: scheduling a studio show still requires a person to start it; scheduling a recording automates the start, not an all-day loop.

Choose the StreamYard workflow that fits

Workflow What it streams Does it start without a person? Duration Best suited to
Scheduled studio broadcast Live studio output No. The host must enter the studio and click Go Live. No 24/7 automation is established by scheduling alone. A live-hosted show or event.
Scheduled pre-recorded video An uploaded video Yes. It starts at the scheduled time. Ends when the video finishes; maximum source-video length is 2 hours on Core, 4 hours on Advanced, and 8 hours on Teams and Business, according to StreamYard guidance. An unattended but finite replay or premiere.
Existing YouTube stream connected by RTMP Stream input connected to the StreamYard studio No. StreamYard says this path still requires entering the studio and clicking Go Live. Not a documented hands-off loop or restart method. Connecting an existing YouTube stream to a manually started studio broadcast.

How to schedule a finite pre-recorded broadcast

  1. Check the video length against your plan. StreamYard documents maximum pre-recorded video lengths of 2 hours for Core, 4 hours for Advanced, and 8 hours for Teams and Business. Confirm the limit shown for your account before preparing the event.
  2. Use the pre-recorded video workflow. Select the uploaded video as the broadcast source, choose YouTube as the destination, and schedule the start time using StreamYard’s current interface.
  3. Verify the event and source before the start. Check that the correct YouTube channel and video are selected and that the scheduled time is correct. The broadcast starts automatically at that time and stops when the video ends.
  4. Plan for the end of the video. If you need programming to continue after the source ends, schedule another finite broadcast or use a workflow designed for continuous looping. StreamYard’s documented pre-recorded workflow does not establish an automatic loop or restart.

How to schedule a live studio show

  1. Create or schedule the broadcast in StreamYard and select the YouTube destination.
  2. Have the host enter the studio at the scheduled time. Scheduling the event does not put the studio on air.
  3. Click Go Live when the host is ready to begin. A person must take this step for the standard studio workflow.
  4. Keep a person responsible for the show. Do not treat an open browser studio as a dependable unattended 24/7 streaming architecture.

Connecting an existing YouTube stream by RTMP

StreamYard documents connecting an existing YouTube stream through RTMP on paid plans. That connection is not a workaround for unattended scheduling: StreamYard says you cannot schedule the live through this path, and you still have to enter the studio and click Go Live. Follow StreamYard’s current RTMP instructions for the account-specific connection details; do not share a stream key, which functions as a credential for broadcasting to your channel.

Check YouTube eligibility, concurrency, and content rules

Live-streaming eligibility and active-stream limits

YouTube’s Help guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to live stream. YouTube also lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. These are YouTube’s stated limits as accessed in 2026; check its current Help guidance before planning multiple simultaneous feeds.

Copyright and documentary rights

Make sure you have the necessary rights to every film, clip, soundtrack, photograph, and other element in the stream. A documentary or archival programme being available online does not by itself establish that you can rebroadcast it. YouTube’s copyright enforcement can affect a live broadcast and its archive, so secure permission or use material you are entitled to stream.

Watch hours and monetization are not guaranteed

YouTube says public long-form videos, including archived livestreams, may count toward qualified public watch hours; livestreams that are not archived do not count. Its monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material falls under the “inauthentic content” policy, previously called “repetitious content.” That policy and the watch-hour guidance do not let anyone predict whether a particular looping feed will qualify. Publish original, valuable programming and check YouTube’s current policies rather than assuming a 24/7 stream will earn watch hours or monetization.

Plan for archives and recording separately

A stream running for a long time does not mean every platform will keep a complete recording. StreamYard’s help article says YouTube records only the last 12 hours, and StreamYard also has separate limits for its own recording feature. Treat three things separately when planning a documentary broadcast: how long the live session runs, what StreamYard records, and what YouTube retains in the archive. Verify current behavior for the planned duration before relying on a complete VOD.

Reduce connection problems in a computer-based workflow

  • Prefer Ethernet when practical. StreamYard recommends a wired connection; it says Wi-Fi may work in most cases but can cause issues.
  • Check both directions. StreamYard recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download. This is a general recommendation, not an uptime guarantee.
  • Keep the setup realistic. A stable network can reduce connection problems, but it cannot make a manually started show unattended or turn a finite recording into an endless loop.

Common problems and what to check

Symptom Likely explanation What to do
The scheduled studio event exists, but nothing is live. Scheduling created the event; a host has not entered the studio and clicked Go Live. Have the host enter the studio and start the broadcast. For a future show, assign someone to start it at the scheduled time.
The pre-recorded broadcast ends sooner than the day. The broadcast ends when its source video finishes; the workflow is finite. Check the source duration and plan limit. Use a continuous-looping service if the stream must keep repeating unattended.
The pre-recorded video cannot be scheduled at its full length. It may exceed the maximum documented for the StreamYard plan: 2 hours on Core, 4 hours on Advanced, or 8 hours on Teams and Business. Confirm the current limit for your account and shorten the source or choose a workflow that supports the intended continuous operation.
The RTMP-connected stream is not starting automatically. The documented RTMP path does not schedule the live and still requires a manual studio start. Enter the studio and click Go Live, or use a separate service designed for unattended streaming.
The connection is unstable. Wi-Fi or insufficient network capacity may contribute to connection issues. Try Ethernet and check that upload and download capacity meet StreamYard’s 5 Mbps recommendation. Neither measure guarantees uninterrupted streaming.
The YouTube archive is incomplete or unavailable. YouTube’s archive behavior and StreamYard’s own recording limits are separate from live duration. Review current YouTube and StreamYard recording guidance for the planned stream length; do not assume a full-length VOD will be retained.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube channel that needs uploaded documentaries or other recordings to repeat unattended, StreamNeo is the #1 option to consider: it loops videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives each account a first day free.

  1. Upload your recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the content from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.

Each slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The upload streams as made, with no re-encoding or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. Review StreamNeo or its plan options. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
