How to Keep a 24/7 Recorded Board Exam Revision Stream Running on YouTube in India

A practical guide to running recorded board-exam revision videos on YouTube around the clock, including encoder setup, archive planning, rights and cloud streaming.

To run recorded board-exam revision videos on YouTube around the clock, schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder using the stream’s server URL and key, and keep the encoder and source video running. For a do-it-yourself setup, that usually means a computer with compatible streaming software or an optional hardware encoder, plus a plan for restarts, monitoring, archives and content rights. YouTube does not guarantee that a stream lasting more than 12 hours will be archived in full, and an educational purpose alone does not clear third-party material for public rebroadcast.

Choose how the stream will run

YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming. An encoder can be software on a computer or a dedicated hardware device; YouTube does not require a hardware encoder. For a 24/7 schedule, the practical distinction is how you will keep the source playing, detect interruptions and restore the stream when something stops. The official setup guide covers connecting an encoder, while YouTube’s live-stream tips recommend preparing and testing the actual setup before going live: YouTube encoder instructions and YouTube live tips.

Approach What it involves What to check for an unattended schedule Cost information
Computer running encoder software A computer stays powered on and connected while the encoder sends the recording to YouTube. Confirm the encoder can loop your source, reconnect after an interruption and resume the intended program. You can also configure local recording if you need a separate copy. No specific hardware or software cost is established here; it depends on the computer and encoder you choose.
Dedicated hardware encoder A separate device sends the program to YouTube. It is optional, not a platform prerequisite. Check that the device supports your source and the unattended looping and recovery behavior you need. Plan how you will monitor it and preserve a local copy if required. No device model or price is established here.

Neither approach makes a stream interruption-proof. A backup encoder, backup internet connection or power backup can be considered if continuity is important, but these are optional engineering measures, not YouTube requirements. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover where it is configured and monitoring stream quality.

Set up and start the YouTube stream

  1. Check that the channel can livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction during the previous 90 days. Review the current live-stream tips before scheduling.
  2. Schedule or create the stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, and choose the visibility deliberately: public, unlisted or private. Scheduling ahead can give viewers time to find the stream and set reminders. Before starting the encoder, check that you have selected the intended stream listing.
  3. Prepare a continuous program. Put the revision recordings in the order you want viewers to see them. Confirm that your encoder can play or loop them without reaching the end and stopping. The YouTube sources explain encoder streaming but do not certify a particular looping application or guarantee unattended playlist behavior, so test your own encoder and source before relying on them.
  4. Connect the encoder. In Live Control Room, copy the stream’s server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed. Use the connection method and settings supported by your encoder and the current YouTube instructions; YouTube’s encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS and resolution-dependent settings.
  5. Choose settings for your connection and source. There is no single bitrate that is right for every resolution and internet connection. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings for the resolution you intend to send, then test using an upload connection that can sustain the selected bitrate. Match your planned resolution to the actual recording and connection instead of selecting a high setting your upload cannot maintain.
  6. Preview before making it public. Start sending the program from the encoder and confirm in Live Control Room that the preview shows the right recording and that its audio is clear. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream, then checking stream health. Do not rely only on the encoder’s local preview.
  7. Monitor and recover deliberately. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and confirm that the program is still playing as intended. If an encoder or connection fails, restore the source and encoder, then verify that the correct scheduled stream is receiving the feed. Test any configured failover in advance; do not assume it will work simply because it is enabled.

Plan sessions and archives for a 24/7 schedule

A continuous channel schedule and a single continuous YouTube session are not the same thing. YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That threshold is a reason to design session boundaries; it is not a promise that a longer stream will be archived in full, nor a guarantee about other archive behavior. Check current Studio behavior before relying on a particular archive workflow: YouTube encoder instructions.

Session design Archive implications Continuity considerations
One long session The official encoder guidance confirms automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; do not assume an uninterrupted session beyond that duration will yield a complete archive. Fewer planned session transitions, but a failure can interrupt the same long session. Arrange a separate local recording if you need a complete copy.
Planned shorter sessions Sessions kept under the stated 12-hour threshold fit the documented automatic-archive condition, but check the resulting archive in Studio rather than assuming every detail is preserved exactly as intended. Requires planned starts and transitions, which can interrupt viewers. It can make individual revision sessions easier to organize, but no one session length is established as best for every channel.

If the archive matters, keep a separate local recording and check that the file is growing during the stream. YouTube’s live tips also recommend checking archive integrity and page access. Keep the session schedule, local recording and recovery plan aligned so a restart does not leave the channel showing the wrong program.

Clear rights before broadcasting revision material

A live feed can be scanned for third-party content. YouTube says it may replace the picture, interrupt or terminate a live stream after identifying such content. Even when you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to avoid disruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Use material you created or have permission to use for both the live broadcast and any archive you plan to retain. That includes music, diagrams, footage, textbook pages, question papers and coaching videos; public availability does not itself grant rebroadcast permission. Keep a rights ledger for each recording with the owner, licence or permission, territory, duration, and whether live and archived use are covered. If a rights holder requires Content ID allowlisting, get that addressed before the stream.

India’s Copyright Act, 1957 contains specific exceptions concerning reproduction by a teacher or pupil in the course of instruction and material used as part of examination questions or answers. Those provisions are not a blanket clearance for every public livestream or online archive. The audience, source of the material, whether the use is recorded or communicated to the public, and commercial context can matter. The cited statute does not decide the legality of a particular channel’s use; get permission for third-party content or seek Indian legal advice on the facts of your stream. Understand monetization separately from copyright

Having permission to use material and qualifying for YouTube monetization are separate questions. In its policy update dated July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content falls under its inauthentic-content policy and is ineligible for monetization. Reused-content review is also distinct from copyright review. Make the creator’s authorship and teaching contribution clear, but do not treat an educational topic, a licence or a continuously running loop as a guarantee of YouTube Partner Program acceptance or revenue. Review YouTube channel monetization policies.

Common problems and what to check

  • The stream will not start: confirm channel verification and check for a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Verify that the encoder has the correct server URL and stream key for the selected Live Control Room stream.
  • The preview is blank or shows the wrong revision video: check the source selection and playlist order in the encoder, then confirm that the correct stream listing is open in Studio before going public.
  • The feed buffers or stream health degrades: compare the selected bitrate and resolution with YouTube’s current settings for that resolution and test the connection under realistic conditions. Reduce the stream settings if the upload cannot sustain them.
  • The stream stops when a recording ends: verify that the encoder is configured to loop or move to the next item, and test that behavior before scheduling unattended operation. The platform guidance does not guarantee a particular encoder’s playlist behavior.
  • YouTube interrupts the broadcast: check for a copyright or Content ID issue, confirm your permission covers live and archived use, and ask the rights holder about allowlisting if applicable. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
  • The archive is incomplete or unavailable: check the session duration and current Studio archive behavior. The documented automatic-archive condition is for streams under 12 hours; use a separate local recording if you need a dependable complete copy.
  • The live key may have been exposed: reset the stream key in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement before resuming.
