To show a church logo and service times on a YouTube sermon stream, add them as image and text sources in an encoder such as OBS Studio, layer them above the sermon video, then test the result in YouTube’s Live Control Room. For a 24/7 stream, also plan how to handle YouTube’s stated archive limit: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Prepare the logo and service-time text
- Use a clear logo image; a transparent background can help it sit neatly over the video.
- Keep the logo and times away from the preacher, captions, and other important content. Use short, legible wording.
- Check the layout at the stream’s actual canvas dimensions. These are practical design recommendations, not YouTube requirements.
Add the logo and times in OBS
OBS scenes combine sources into the outgoing picture. Its Image source displays an image or slideshow, and its Text source renders customizable text. The same basic approach applies to other encoders that offer comparable image and text overlays. See the OBS sources guide and OBS text sources guide.
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, add or select the scene that will carry the sermon stream. Add the sermon video source first.
- Add the logo. In the Sources dock, select the plus button and choose Image. Select the logo file.
- Add service times. Use the Sources plus button again and choose Text. Enter the service-time wording and adjust its appearance for readability.
- Layer and position the overlays. Sources higher in OBS’s list appear in front of lower sources. Keep the Image and Text sources above the sermon video, then drag them in the preview to place and resize them.
- Check the full composition. Confirm that the overlays do not cover the preacher or captions and remain legible at the intended stream dimensions.
Make weekly time changes easier
OBS text can be entered directly or read from a text file. A file can make recurring schedule edits easier, but verify the file path and formatting on the computer running OBS before relying on it. The OBS text sources guide describes the text-source options.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- In the Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding stream settings in OBS.
- Keep the key private. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”; reset the key if it is compromised. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance and encoder setup instructions.
Test the stream before relying on it
Set up the encoder stream ahead of the service and check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm that the watch page is accessible, then check picture and sound on both a computer and a phone. Verify that the logo is in the right place, the service times are readable, and audio plays as expected. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend advance setup and preview checks; OBS’s quick start guide recommends trying a short test stream before depending on a new setup.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Plan around the 24/7 archive limit
YouTube’s encoder instructions say that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish every outcome for a stream lasting longer than 12 hours, so do not assume a single continuous event will create a complete archive. Decide whether to rotate scheduled or live events, check current behavior in the channel’s Live Control Room, and make the archive plan part of the church’s operating routine. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
Choose the overlay approach that fits the church
| Approach | Best suited to | Considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder image and text sources, such as OBS | A fixed logo and service-time text placed directly over the sermon. | Placement and text are controlled in the encoder scene. Update the text directly or use a verified text-file workflow. |
| Browser-based overlay | Graphics the church already maintains as a web page. | Use an encoder feature designed to display browser content; verify the result in the actual YouTube preview. |
| YouTube Live Control Room break overlay URL | An away or break slate. | YouTube describes this for its break feature; it is not a general-purpose, always-on logo and service-times overlay. |
If the church’s camera already connects to the computer or encoder, no capture card is required just to add overlays. An HDMI capture card may be useful only if an HDMI camera needs to feed a computer encoder and no compatible input is available. YouTube’s encoder hardware guidance discusses more advanced camera and audio setups, while OBS supports video-capture sources in its sources guide.
