You can’t install a working, official Mobdro add-on on Kodi. Mobdro ceased operations on March 11, 2021, and Kodi lists Mobdro among banned add-ons. Old repository and APK instructions are obsolete; current offers using the name are unofficial and may be nonfunctional, repackaged, or unsafe. For streaming, use Kodi with authorized sources or choose a legal streaming service.
Can you still install Mobdro on Kodi?
No—not through any current official or recommended installation path. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment announced that Mobdro ceased all operations on March 11, 2021, following an investigation involving the Premier League and law-enforcement partners. ACE’s announcement described the service in connection with unauthorized distribution of copyrighted content.
Kodi is media-center software, not a television service: it does not provide channels or streaming content itself. Mobdro was an Android-oriented app that aggregated live streams and video on demand; it was not a Kodi product or an approved Kodi add-on. Kodi’s banned add-ons list includes Mobdro.

- A repository is a source from which Kodi can install and update add-ons.
- An Android APK installs a separate Android app; it is not a Kodi add-on.
- A Kodi build is a customized Kodi setup that may bundle add-ons and settings, including unsupported sources.
So an APK that installs is not proof that Mobdro has returned, that its streams work, or that the file is genuine. There is no verified official Mobdro service. Avoid downloads branded “Mobdro Kodi add-on,” “Mobdro repository,” or “latest Mobdro APK.”
Why old installation guides fail
The central problem is not just a broken repository URL: the original service shut down. In addition, domains and repositories in old tutorials may have expired, changed ownership, or been repurposed. Add-ons can lose dependencies or stop receiving updates, and interfaces and compatibility requirements change between Kodi versions. Kodi notes that manually installed ZIP add-ons do not receive automatic updates in the same way as repository add-ons (Kodi’s add-on subsystem explanation).

An active website or a successful installation does not establish that a source is authentic or safe. Kodi warns that unofficial repositories are untrusted, may change their contents without notice, and can carry security and legal risks (unofficial repository guidance). Kodi’s own warning about third-party sources is not a reason to switch on unknown-source installation for Mobdro. Nor does using a VPN make unauthorized streams authorized.
Is Mobdro safe or legal?
It would be too broad to claim that every file or site using the Mobdro name is malware. The practical point is that current copies are unofficial and cannot be verified as the original service. They may be dead, modified, or unsafe. Do not enter account details, install certificates or profiles, or grant accessibility or device-administrator permissions to a Mobdro-branded app.

The enforcement action concerned the former service’s distribution of copyrighted material; laws and circumstances vary by country and by content. Kodi itself is legitimate media-center software, but that does not make every third-party add-on or stream legitimate. See Kodi’s explanation of legal and third-party add-ons.
Set up Kodi for legitimate streaming
- Install Kodi from an official source. Use Kodi’s download page or the recognized app store for your device. Kodi says it does not support software downloaded from unauthorized sites (software download policy).
- Use a stable release for your device. The official materials identified Kodi 21.3 “Omega” as the stable line as of August 2026; Kodi 22 was a prerelease line, not the normal stable choice for a general setup. Check the download page for the current release before installing, and confirm platform and architecture if downloading a package manually.
- Start with Kodi’s official add-on repository. Typical navigation is
Home screen → Add-ons → Download → select a category → choose an add-on → Install. Labels can differ by skin, device, and version. Browse the official add-on catalogue; installation through the official repository supports its normal update process, though no software source is risk-free. - For live television, use an authorized source. Kodi can work with a legal IPTV provider or a personal TV tuner and PVR backend. Its PVR IPTV Simple Client can use an authorized M3U playlist or file, and an XMLTV/EPG source if your provider supplies one. Make sure your provider permits access and recording where relevant. A playlist URL alone does not establish that the streams are licensed.
- Troubleshoot the supported setup, not by adding random files. Check that the add-on supports your Kodi version; inspect
Add-ons → My add-ons → [add-on] → Dependenciesfor dependency errors; verify device date, time, network, and DNS; then restart Kodi and the device. Review Kodi’s log, remove obsolete sources or duplicate repositories, and use an official repository version when available. Do not disable security protections or install a dependency ZIP from an unknown site to force an old add-on to work.

Tubi describes its service as free and ad-supported; its content and availability vary by region. Plex offers free live TV and on-demand content, with optional paid features such as DVR functionality; check its current plan details before subscribing. Neither is a universal substitute for every local channel or premium service.
If you already installed a Mobdro APK or repository
- Stop opening the app or repository. If the device is showing suspicious behavior, disconnect it from the internet temporarily.
- Uninstall the Mobdro APK and any associated Kodi add-on. In Kodi, remove the source if present:
Settings → File manager → select the source → Remove source. Menu wording may vary slightly. - On Android or Fire TV, turn off installation from unknown sources again if you enabled it for the installation.
- Run the device’s built-in security scan or a reputable security tool. Check installed apps, accessibility and device-admin permissions, VPN profiles, and browser extensions for items you do not recognize.
- If you entered account credentials, or encountered suspicious login prompts, redirects, or pop-ups, change affected passwords from a trusted device. Do not reuse the same password.
- If suspicious symptoms persist, back up essential personal files and consider a factory reset. Uninstalling an app alone cannot guarantee that a compromised device is clean.
- If Kodi itself appears compromised, remove it and reinstall only from Kodi’s official download source.
Putting Kodi on an Android TV or Fire TV device is a separate setup question; it does not restore Mobdro or make unsupported add-ons safe. If your goal is reliable live TV, choose a licensed source first, then check that it supports your device and Kodi version.

Can a VPN make Mobdro legal?
No. A VPN does not change whether you are authorized to access a stream. Use a licensed provider or official service.
Can I install Mobdro on Fire TV?
There is no verified, recommended Mobdro installation for Fire TV. Installing an APK would be separate from installing a Kodi add-on, and current Mobdro-branded APKs are unofficial.
Why does Kodi say the repository is unavailable?
The repository may be offline, moved, or incompatible, and old Mobdro sources are not a supported route. Do not try random replacement URLs or dependency downloads; remove the obsolete source and use a supported official add-on.
What is the difference between an APK and a Kodi add-on?
An APK installs a separate Android application. A Kodi add-on runs inside Kodi through Kodi’s add-on framework. Installing one does not install the other.
Does Kodi provide TV channels itself?
No. Kodi is media-center software. You must supply media or connect a lawful service, tuner, or supported add-on.
