How do I stream to YouTube 24/7 from AWS?
The basic path is to prepare a continuous video source, encode it using settings accepted by YouTube, send the output to YouTube’s ingest endpoint using the stream key, and monitor both the encoder and the YouTube Live status. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP, for live ingest: YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Choose the source and behavior. Decide whether AWS will receive a live camera feed or play stored video, and whether the source must loop or move through a playlist. Confirm that the source can remain available for the entire run.
- Choose the AWS architecture. For a narrow feed to YouTube, you may need only an encoder with outbound ingest. Consider AWS’s managed media services when you need their video processing, packaging, or viewer-delivery capabilities; do not assume every component is necessary for a YouTube destination.
- Check region support and service limits. Confirm that every AWS service in the selected design is offered in your chosen region and that account quotas meet the planned configuration. AWS service availability differs by service and region.
- Set encoder output to YouTube’s current guidance. Use YouTube’s encoder settings table for the resolution and frame rate you intend to stream. Do not copy an arbitrary bitrate from a generic tutorial. If using AWS MediaLive’s RTMP/RTMPS output, AWS lists H.264 video and AAC audio compatibility; match the output to YouTube’s current requirements.
- Configure YouTube Live and keep the key private. Create or select the YouTube Live stream, use its ingest details and stream key in the encoder, and avoid exposing the key in logs, shell history, screenshots, or public configuration. Treat it as a credential; rotate it if exposed.
- Validate before leaving it unattended. Check the encoder output and YouTube Studio preview/status, confirm audio and video are present, and test a restart and source interruption. Do not describe the system as resilient until its recovery behavior has been tested.
- Monitor the running service. Track encoder or channel health, source availability, and YouTube’s live status. Configure alerts and define who will respond to a failed source, stopped encoder, or dropped ingest.
Which AWS architecture fits a YouTube destination?
Managed AWS live-video services
AWS describes a managed pipeline using MediaLive for ingest and transcoding, MediaPackage for packaging, and CloudFront to deliver streams to viewers. AWS identifies 24/7 live channels as a use case for this architecture. It is suited to workflows that require AWS-managed processing or viewer distribution. If YouTube is the only destination, establish whether the selected MediaLive output can send the required RTMP/RTMPS feed directly and whether packaging or CloudFront serves a separate need; they are not automatically required just to send a stream to YouTube. Software encoder on AWS compute
A software encoder such as FFmpeg can be run on persistent compute, read a local or remote source, and push a feed to YouTube. However, the official material available here does not verify a production EC2-to-YouTube command or a complete deployment recipe. AWS’s FFmpeg streaming example is for Amazon IVS, a separate service; it is not a copy-ready YouTube configuration: AWS’s IVS streaming configuration example.

Before building an EC2 design, specify the source format and location, whether it loops, the encoding workload, storage, restart supervision, key handling, and outbound network path. Keep credentials out of command lines and logs where possible, and use a protected configuration mechanism appropriate to your deployment. Choose instance capacity by validating the actual encoding workload rather than assuming a generic instance size will sustain the target resolution and frame rate.
Can I run a continuous YouTube live stream from an AWS Mumbai instance?
Yes, Mumbai is listed as a supported region for AWS’s specific Live Streaming on AWS with Amazon S3 solution. That does not establish that every service combination, optional component, quota, or architecture is available in Mumbai. AWS notes that MediaLive, MediaPackage, and MediaConnect are offered only in selected regions; check each dependency in the AWS regional services list before deployment. The cited material does not establish India-specific ingest latency or local ISP performance, so validate the actual path and stream behavior from your environment.

What does an always-on AWS stream cost?
Continuous operation means accounting for the time each encoder or channel runs, plus any source storage, network transfer, monitoring, and redundancy. AWS pricing is resource-based and can change; calculate the specific design using the selected region, services, running hours, and bitrate. AWS’s published examples include particular regional configurations and viewer delivery. Their CloudFront delivery charges for audiences are not a direct estimate of sending one outbound feed from AWS to YouTube. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator and current service pricing for the architecture you actually plan to run.
Plan for failures before calling it 24/7
A continuous stream depends on more than an instance staying powered on. The source can disappear, an encoder process can stop, a network connection can fail, or YouTube can drop the ingest. AWS describes redundancy features in managed streaming architectures, but the available sources do not establish a particular YouTube failover recipe. Build and test a recovery plan around the components you choose.

- Set alerts for a stopped process, unavailable source, or lost output.
- Decide how the encoder or channel restarts, and test that restart under realistic conditions.
- Test recovery after an ingest interruption; do not assume a service will reconnect in the way your workflow needs.
- Document who responds and how to restore the stream key or source safely if a credential is exposed or a source changes.
