How to Get Netflix on Samsung Devices: TVs, Galaxy Phones and Tablets

To get Netflix on a Samsung Smart TV, open Home → Apps, search for Netflix, then install or open the official app. On a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, open the Galaxy Store, search for Netflix and install it. If Netflix is missing, the device may not be supported in your model, region or software version; check compatibility before trying workarounds.

Netflix access is not bundled automatically with a Samsung device: you need a Netflix membership. For TV viewing, the built-in app is usually simplest. Phone-to-TV casting and screen mirroring are not guaranteed to work, so use a supported receiver or an external streaming player when necessary.

First, identify your Samsung device

Your device Where to get Netflix Important qualification
Samsung Smart TV Home or Smart Hub → Apps Availability varies by model, region and software. A missing app may mean the TV is incompatible.
Samsung smart monitor or projector Its Apps or Smart Hub interface, if supported These devices do not necessarily share the same Netflix compatibility as every TV.
Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet Galaxy Store; Netflix also documents Android installation The latest Netflix app requires Android 9 or later on Galaxy devices. Older versions may have limited support.
Older or non-smart Samsung TV An HDMI streaming player, console or other supported device connected to the TV The television itself may not be able to install Netflix.

“Samsung device” is not one compatibility category. Installation, picture quality, casting and downloads depend on the particular operating system, model and certification—not just the brand.

Install Netflix on a Samsung TV

  1. Connect the TV to the internet.
  2. Press Home on the Samsung remote.
  3. Open Apps or Smart Hub.
  4. Select search and enter Netflix.
  5. Choose the official Netflix app, then select Install or Add to Home, if offered.
  6. Open Netflix and sign in, or follow the signup prompts.

Samsung menu names and layouts vary across TV generations, Tizen versions, regions and remotes. Samsung notes that streaming apps such as Netflix need an internet connection, and an app that cannot be found may not be compatible with the specific TV model. Samsung’s app-installation guidance explains the general process.

Install Netflix on a Galaxy phone or tablet

  1. Open the Galaxy Store.
  2. Search for Netflix and select the official app.
  3. Tap Install.
  4. Open Netflix from the Home screen or app drawer and sign in.

Netflix says the latest app requires Android 9 or later on Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets. Some devices on Android 7 or 8 may run an older app version, but support for current plans and features can be limited. See Netflix’s Android installation and requirements page. Samsung says Galaxy Store access requires a Samsung account; network, security or Play Protect settings can also affect installation. See Samsung’s Galaxy Store troubleshooting guidance.

A rooted or modified operating system, certification issue, outdated Android version, low storage, or temporary store problem can prevent installation. Avoid unofficial APK download sites: sideloaded apps may fail certification checks and expose your account or device to risk.

Sign in and protect your account

Depending on the device, Netflix may let you sign in with your email address and password, or show an on-screen activation or QR-code option. Follow only the prompts displayed in the official app. After authentication, select the profile you want to use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On a shared, borrowed or soon-to-be-sold device, sign out of Netflix before handing it over. Do not enter your password into an unofficial app, a pop-up, or a link from an unsolicited message. Netflix provides a page to review recent device activity and profile viewing history.

Get the best available picture quality

Netflix’s recommended connection speeds are:

Quality Resolution Recommended speed
HD 720p 3 Mbps or higher
Full HD 1080p 5 Mbps or higher
UHD 4K 15 Mbps or higher

These are recommendations, not a guarantee of the resolution you will see. Quality also depends on your Netflix plan, the device’s display and app, the title’s available formats, firmware, network congestion and Wi-Fi stability. HDR or Dolby Vision requires compatible hardware and content. When using an external player, the HDMI connection must also meet the relevant resolution and HDCP requirements. See Netflix’s internet speed recommendations.

On a Galaxy device, check playback capability in Netflix → My Netflix → Menu → App Settings → Diagnostics → Playback Specification. Netflix identifies Widevine L1 as a requirement for HD capability on relevant Android devices, though it does not guarantee HD by itself. L3 limits Netflix playback to SD. A modified Android installation can affect Widevine status.

Can you download Netflix titles on a Samsung device?

Downloads are primarily a mobile feature. A Galaxy phone or tablet may support offline viewing if it meets Netflix’s current app, operating-system and device requirements, but some Android devices can stream without supporting downloads. Netflix recommends installing the latest Android version and Netflix app when downloads are unavailable. Do not expect a Samsung Smart TV to download Netflix titles for offline playback. See Netflix’s Android download guidance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you plan to watch while traveling, test a download before leaving and make sure the title is available for download. Reinstalling Netflix or clearing app data can remove downloaded content.

Can a Samsung phone cast Netflix to a Samsung TV?

There are three different ways people mean “put Netflix on the TV”:

  • Native TV app: Netflix runs on the television and you control it with the TV remote. This is usually the simplest option.
  • Casting: The phone sends playback to a compatible receiver. Netflix’s supported-device list includes specific receivers, such as Chromecast (third generation or earlier), Google Nest Hub displays, and select Vizio and Compal TVs. It does not establish that every Samsung TV supports Netflix casting.
  • Screen mirroring: The phone duplicates its screen. Streaming protection can restrict or block Netflix playback this way; Samsung Smart View is not a universal workaround.

Netflix says casting or mirroring is available on Standard or Premium plans in the cited help guidance, so plan eligibility may matter. A compatible phone and receiver normally need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Check the Netflix casting and cable guidance and Netflix’s current casting instructions for your devices and plan. If the TV does not appear in Netflix’s cast picker, use its physical remote with the native app or connect an external streaming player.

A wired connection may work when wireless casting does not, but USB-C does not automatically mean a Galaxy phone supports video output. The phone, adapter and cable must support video output and protected high-resolution playback. Netflix’s guidance cites USB 3.1 or later for USB-C or Thunderbolt connections.

Troubleshoot Netflix on a Samsung TV

Work through these steps in order; resetting Smart Hub is more disruptive and belongs near the end.

1. Check the connection and fully restart the TV

Confirm the TV is online. To cold-boot it rather than merely putting it into standby, unplug it, press its physical power button once and wait one minute, or leave it unplugged for about three minutes. Plug it back in, turn it on and try Netflix.

2. Update the TV software

Look for a path similar to Settings → Support → Software Update → Update Now. Exact labels differ by model. Use the TV’s built-in updater or Samsung’s official support page, not an unverified download.

3. Update or reinstall Netflix

Open Apps, find Netflix and use the available update, delete or reinstall option. Reinstallation may require you to sign in again.

4. Test the network from Netflix

Where available, open the Netflix home screen, press Back, then choose Get Help → Check your Network. Netflix says a failed test usually means the device is not connected to the internet.

5. Reset Smart Hub only if needed

If restarting, updating and reinstalling have not helped, consider resetting Smart Hub. It can sign you out of apps and reset Smart Hub settings, so have your passwords ready. Samsung’s recommended sequence for a malfunctioning TV app is cold boot, update the TV, delete and redownload the app, then reset Smart Hub. See Samsung’s TV app troubleshooting steps.

Troubleshoot Netflix on a Galaxy phone or tablet

  1. Check Wi-Fi or mobile data, then restart the Galaxy device.
  2. Install available Android and Netflix app updates through official channels.
  3. Check that there is enough free storage.
  4. Force-close Netflix and reopen it; if needed, clear the app cache in the phone’s settings.
  5. If Netflix still fails, reinstall the app and sign in again.
  6. If the device is rooted, modified or uncertified, check Netflix’s compatibility guidance and contact Samsung or Netflix support with the exact model and error.

Reinstalling can sign you out and remove downloaded titles. Netflix’s guidance for an unsupported-app message recommends uninstalling and reinstalling first; then check the Android version and device compatibility. See Netflix’s “device is not supported” guidance and Android requirements.

Fix common symptoms

Netflix is missing from the TV’s app store

Confirm the TV is online, search under Apps rather than only on the Home screen, restart the TV, check for a software update and confirm the TV’s country or region setting. Then look up the exact model through Samsung support. If Netflix remains unavailable, the model or region may not be supported; an external HDMI player is the practical alternative.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Netflix will not install on a Galaxy device

Check Android version, storage, store account and network. If the store says “This device is not supported by the app,” reinstall Netflix once, then verify the Android version and certification. Do not try to work around incompatibility with an APK from an unknown site.

“The current plan is not compatible with this older version of the app”

This may occur on an older device or app version. Netflix says its mobile plan works with most Android devices running Android 7 or later, but older combinations may not support that plan. The options are to use a newer compatible device or choose a compatible plan. See Netflix’s plan-compatibility guidance.

Netflix freezes, crashes or stays on the loading screen

On a TV, cold-boot it, sign out and back in if possible, update the TV, reinstall Netflix, then reset Smart Hub only as a later step. Restart the modem and router and run Netflix’s network test. On a Galaxy device, restart it, update the app and Android, check storage, clear the cache, then reinstall if needed.

Netflix buffers or picture quality is poor

Run a speed test near the device, reduce competing network use, move the TV closer to the router or use Ethernet if available. Compare the result with Netflix’s recommended speeds, but also check plan, title, display and device capability. A fast connection cannot make an incompatible TV or phone deliver 4K.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The cast icon is missing or the picker says “No devices found”

Turn on the receiver, connect the phone and receiver to the same Wi-Fi network, and confirm the receiver appears on Netflix’s supported list. Some networks separate devices by band or isolate them from one another. Also check that your plan supports casting. If the receiver is not supported, use the TV app or an HDMI streaming player instead of relying on screen mirroring. See Netflix’s “No devices found” troubleshooting.

Downloads are unavailable

Update Android and Netflix, then check whether the specific Galaxy device supports downloads. Streaming support does not imply download support on every Android device. If the download option is still absent, the limitation may be the device or title rather than your connection.

When an external streaming player makes sense

An HDMI streaming player is worth considering when the Samsung TV is too old to run Netflix, the app is unavailable or consistently unreliable, or you want the same interface on several televisions. Check that the TV has an available HDMI port, that your Wi-Fi or Ethernet setup works with the player, and that the player supports the resolution and HDR formats you want. A 4K setup also depends on compatible HDMI/HDCP equipment and content.

A streaming stick adds another remote and may require an account with its platform, but it is often a more proportionate fix than replacing a working television solely to restore Netflix. If Netflix already runs well on the Samsung TV, no extra hardware is needed. Buy a new TV only if you are already planning a display upgrade.
