First identify whether VLC is playing a playlist on your computer or broadcasting a playlist through VLM. For local playback, enable whole-playlist looping rather than repeat-current-item. For a VLM broadcast, check the channel’s song inputs, loop setting and stream-output configuration. The fixes differ because they control playback in different places.
Identify where playback stops
“VLC stopping after the playlist ends” can mean that the local player stops, or that the broadcast ends for remote listeners. It can also mean the stream breaks at every song transition. Find out which machine stops and when before changing settings:
- Local playback: VLC is playing the playlist on the computer, and it stops after the last track.
- VLM broadcast: VLC is broadcasting a configured channel of song inputs, and the broadcast ends after its final input.
- Transition failure: The broadcast or audience loses playback whenever one song ends and the next begins.
If none of those describes the setup, note the VLC version, operating system, source type (local files or a URL), playlist format, and whether playback stops for the broadcaster or the audience. Those details are needed to narrow down a different cause. VLC documentation covers distinct controls for local playlists and VLM broadcasts; it does not establish one universal fix for every setup.
Fix a local VLC playlist that stops after its last song
Choose the control that loops the entire playlist, not the one that repeats only the current item. VLC documents these as separate playlist controls: the Lua playlist API distinguishes repeat_() from loop(), and the HTTP interface reference likewise lists separate pl_repeat and pl_loop commands.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the playlist in VLC and locate the playback mode controls.
- Set playback to loop or repeat the whole playlist. Do not choose repeat-current-item if the intention is to play each song in order and then return to the first.
- Let the final track finish and confirm that VLC starts the first track again.
Menu labels and control locations can vary with VLC version and operating system. The cited API and HTTP references establish the difference between the two modes, not a single set of desktop menu clicks for every installation.
Fix a VLM broadcast that ends after its last input
VLM is VLC’s broadcast configuration system. In VideoLAN’s VLC 3.0 example, a channel contains successive song inputs; VLM moves to the next input when the current one ends. Its documented loop option restarts the input list after the final input finishes. See VideoLAN’s VLM playlist example and VLM documentation.

- Inspect the VLM channel configuration and confirm that every intended song is listed as an input, in the desired order.
- Confirm that the next input is configured to follow the previous one on the same channel.
- Enable the VLM broadcast loop if the full list should start over after the last input ends.
- Test through the final song and verify that the first input begins again.
The cited desktop example is for VLC 3.0, while the VLM reference is in VideoLAN’s current source tree. Check the syntax and behavior against the VLC version you have installed before applying commands from documentation for a different version.
If listeners lose the stream at each song transition
A stream that breaks between songs is a different symptom from a playlist that simply reaches its end. Compare the VLM output configuration with VideoLAN’s multi-song example: it includes sout-keep so the stream output is kept when one song ends and the next begins. This recommendation applies to the documented VLM multi-input broadcast setup; it is not a general repair for local playback or every streaming configuration. See the example and its output configuration.

Check scripts and other playback paths
If a script launches VLC, inspect its arguments and any automation that runs when playback ends. A play-and-exit or quit-at-end instruction is meant to close VLC at the end of playback, so it can resemble a playlist-loop problem. The sources linked here do not establish a version-independent argument or exact command to change; check the help for your installed VLC version before editing a script.
If VLC is only playing locally while another application handles the live stream, changing VLM settings may not affect the broadcast. Identify which application controls the outgoing stream and whether the failure occurs locally, at a song boundary, or after the final song.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded recordings playing on a YouTube channel around the clock, rather than troubleshoot VLC’s local playlist or VLM configuration, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo keeps the uploaded videos looping without a computer or home connection left running. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It streams uploaded videos to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
