If Restream says your YouTube stream key is invalid, first check that your encoder is using the RTMP URL and key for the correct Restream stream or scheduled event. If those are correct, check the YouTube channel connection in Restream, confirm the channel can go live, and test a direct YouTube stream to find which side is failing. The documented troubleshooting steps are the same for India; the available official guidance does not identify a separate India-specific cause or fix.
First identify which connection is failing
A broadcast through Restream has two separate links: your encoder sends video to Restream using an RTMP URL and stream key, then Restream forwards it to the connected YouTube channel. An invalid-key message can therefore involve the encoder’s Restream credentials or the YouTube destination connection. Work through those separately rather than changing unrelated network or hardware settings.
Restream’s help guidance describes checking the channel connection, live-stream eligibility, and key as well as testing a direct YouTube broadcast. Restream’s YouTube troubleshooting guide was published March 9, 2026.
Refresh the encoder’s Restream credentials
- Open the intended stream in Restream. If you are broadcasting to a scheduled event, open that event’s card and use its RTMP details. Scheduled events have their own credentials; using a different stream’s key can send the encoder to a separate stream instead of the planned event. See Restream’s scheduled-event instructions.
- Copy the current RTMP URL and stream key from that card. Replace the saved values in OBS or your other encoder. Restream says a key remains static unless it is reset, but a newly created RTMP stream has a different key. Its software-streaming guide explains the URL-and-key workflow.
- Check the encoder’s input format. In OBS, you can connect an account or enter credentials manually using “Use Stream Key.” For manual entry, confirm the server/URL and key are in their respective fields. Restream documents both OBS approaches in its OBS connection guide.
- For a mobile broadcasting app, check whether it wants separate fields or a joined value. App interfaces differ: some take the URL and key separately; others expect them joined with a slash. Follow the field format required by that app and verify both values against the intended Restream stream. Restream’s mobile-streaming troubleshooting guide covers these differences.
After updating the values, try the broadcast again. If the encoder accepts the Restream credentials but YouTube still does not receive the stream, continue with the destination checks below.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Repair the YouTube destination connection
- Check the destination selection. In the Restream stream setup, make sure the intended YouTube channel is connected and enabled. Restream’s supported-platforms guide describes connecting and using destination channels.
- Confirm that YouTube live streaming is enabled for the channel. If YouTube says live streaming is unavailable, resolve that channel eligibility issue through YouTube before troubleshooting the encoder further.
- If the connection appears stale, remove and reconnect the YouTube channel in Restream. Follow Restream’s reconnection process. As part of that process, its guide instructs users to open YouTube Studio’s stream settings and click “Reset” next to the stream key, then add the channel to Restream again.
- Update any encoder that sends directly to YouTube. Resetting a YouTube key makes the previous value stale for direct-to-YouTube encoders. If your encoder sends to Restream, use the Restream credentials from the correct stream card instead.
Restream’s YouTube recovery steps include checking live access, reconnecting the channel, and resetting the YouTube stream key.
Test the route to isolate the problem
- Try a direct YouTube stream. If a direct stream also fails, focus on YouTube access or channel settings. Restream recommends trying YouTube directly; if the problem persists there, contact YouTube support.
- Try a private or unlisted test broadcast where appropriate. This can help check the path without making a public broadcast. Restream explains test-stream options in its guide to testing before going live.
- Interpret the result. If YouTube works directly but delivery through Restream does not, recheck the destination connection and the credentials associated with the intended Restream stream or event. If neither route works, resolve the YouTube-side issue first.
Common causes and fixes
| What you see | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The encoder rejects the key | Saved key is stale, mistyped, or belongs to another Restream stream | Copy the URL and key again from the correct Restream stream card. |
| A scheduled broadcast does not attach to its planned event | Encoder is using credentials for a different stream | Open the scheduled event card and use its event-specific RTMP details. |
| Encoder reaches Restream but YouTube does not receive the broadcast | YouTube destination is disconnected, disabled, or unavailable for live streaming | Check the selected channel and its live-stream eligibility; reconnect it if needed. |
| YouTube rejects a key after reconnecting | YouTube key was reset, but a direct-to-YouTube encoder still has the old value | Update that encoder with the current YouTube key. For a Restream-bound encoder, use the Restream stream card’s credentials. |
| A mobile app still reports invalid credentials | The app may expect URL and key in a different field format | Check whether it needs separate values or a URL/key joined with a slash. |
| Restream cannot send a YouTube mobile-app event | The event was created as mobile-only in the YouTube app | Use an event type that supports the Restream encoder workflow. |
What is—and is not—specific to India
The official Restream instructions cited here do not document an India-only stream-key rule or a distinct India-specific remedy. They also do not establish VPN use, an Indian ISP, regional server selection, or local account settings as causes of this error. OBS may autodetect a server based on location, but Restream’s setup guidance does not connect that choice to invalid-key errors. Start with the credentials, destination connection, and tests above.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than troubleshoot a live encoder session, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
