Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf OBS stops during a 24/7 devotional stream, first identify what actually stopped: OBS may have crashed or frozen, the connection to YouTube may have dropped while OBS stayed open, or YouTube may have stopped accepting or showing the feed. Each symptom points to a different fix; without the OBS log and setup details, there is no basis to name one cause.
Identify what stopped before changing settings
At the time of the next interruption, note whether OBS is still open and responsive, what its status says, and whether YouTube Studio still shows an incoming feed. A disconnected stream is not necessarily an OBS crash. OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guidance says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server; its separate encoding guidance addresses performance symptoms such as choppy output or an “encoding overloaded” message.
- OBS closed or became unresponsive: Treat this as an application or system failure. Record the exact time and any error message, then preserve the OBS log for diagnosis.
- OBS remains open but reports reconnecting or dropped frames: Follow the connection checks below.
- OBS appears to be sending, but YouTube does not receive or show the stream: Check the stream URL, key, and YouTube Live Control Room settings.
- The stream is choppy or OBS reports encoding overload: Check rendering and encoding load rather than assuming the network is at fault.
If OBS stays open but disconnects
OBS’s “Stream Connection Troubleshooting” guide, published September 30, 2024, explains that dropped frames can mean the connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate; enough dropped frames can lead to disconnection. Work through these tests one at a time so you can tell which change matters.
1. Test a lower bitrate and another ingest server
- In OBS, open Settings → Output and locate the streaming bitrate setting. Lower it for a test, keeping within YouTube’s current limits and the upload speed your connection can sustain consistently.
- OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point. Treat that only as a troubleshooting heuristic, not a guaranteed setting: the appropriate bitrate depends on stable upload speed and the streaming service’s limits.
- If another ingest server is available for your setup, test it. A different server and a lower bitrate are diagnostic changes for network conditions, not proof that either was the original cause.
2. Test the network connection
- If the streaming computer uses Wi-Fi, test with a wired Ethernet connection. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. A cable is a test option, not a guaranteed fix.
- Check whether a VPN, firewall, antivirus, or bundled network-optimization utility is interfering with the connection.
- Check for outdated network drivers, loose or faulty cables, and router or modem connectivity problems. Replace hardware only when checks point to a fault.
- If OBS’s troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, OBS recommends contacting your internet service provider.
3. Treat OBS network controls as tests, not universal fixes
OBS documents additional network controls for Windows. Try Network Optimizations and TCP pacing as tests. Keep Bind to IP at Default; try IPv4 Only only if needed, and return to the default IPv4/IPv6 setting if it makes no difference. Dynamic bitrate adjustment is a fallback when the underlying connection problem cannot be resolved. OBS cautions that it does not fix the root cause and may reduce video quality.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If OBS reports encoding overload or the output is choppy
OBS needs GPU resources to composite and render scenes. If it cannot keep up, reduce the work it has to do. These steps target rendering or encoding overload; they are not a substitute for network troubleshooting when the symptom is a connection drop.
- Reduce GPU-heavy activity running alongside OBS.
- Lower the output resolution or frame rate and check whether the stream becomes stable.
- Simplify scenes and sources. Review browser sources and filters, which can add rendering work.
- On Windows, try running OBS as administrator as an initial check.
Change one setting at a time and observe the result. If the stream improves after a change, record it; if not, restore the previous setting before moving to another test.

If YouTube rejects or does not receive the encoder feed
Compare the stream URL and key shown in YouTube Studio with the values configured in OBS. The stream key is the credential information YouTube uses to accept an encoder feed, so a mismatch can prevent the intended feed from connecting.
- Check that OBS is using the intended YouTube stream URL and key.
- Confirm that YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings match the way you intend to start and stop the stream from the encoder.
- If you suspect the key has been compromised, a channel owner or manager can reset it in YouTube Live Control Room. Update OBS with the new key afterward.
Keep a useful record of each interruption
A short incident record can help distinguish an OBS failure from a connection or platform problem. Capture these details before restarting or changing several settings:
