If OBS skips videos from a playlist during a YouTube Live stream, first check which OBS source plays the files. A VLC Video source is OBS’s playlist source; a Media Source is designed for an individual file. Check the source, playlist paths and order, shuffle and loop settings, then compare OBS’s local playback with what viewers receive. The available official documentation does not identify an India-specific cause, so diagnose the OBS playback and YouTube delivery separately.
Identify the OBS source playing your videos
In OBS, determine whether the videos are loaded into one VLC Video source or configured as individual Media Sources. The distinction matters: playlist order and shuffle belong to VLC Video, while Media Source has separate file and activation behavior. OBS’s Media Sources documentation, dated January 11, 2022, describes both.
- VLC Video: A playlist source that uses VLC libraries for extended media support. OBS says VLC must be installed for this source type to appear, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Media Source: A source for an individual media file, with properties such as looping and behavior when the source becomes active or inactive.
As OBS puts it: “This source type will use the VLC libraries for extended media support over the built-in Media Source.”
Check a VLC Video playlist
- Confirm VLC installation and architecture. If VLC Video is unavailable or does not work as expected, verify VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Inspect the playlist entries. Check that each expected video is listed, that the order is correct, and that the file paths point to playable files. Note the exact item where playback diverges from the expected order.
- Turn off Shuffle Playlist for sequential playback. OBS documents shuffle as randomizing the media list. If a video appears to be skipped because another one plays instead, make sure shuffle is disabled.
- Set Loop Playlist for the intended ending. Loop determines whether playback starts over after the list runs out. Enable it if the playlist should repeat; disable it if it should stop at the end. Looping does not control the order of items within the list.
- Check source visibility and scene changes. Observe whether the source becomes hidden or the scene changes around the time a file appears to be skipped. Reproduce the same sequence in preview or a local recording before changing stream settings.
If you use individual Media Sources
Inspect each source’s file selection, visibility, and activation behavior. OBS documents options for restarting a Media Source when it becomes active and closing its file while inactive. OBS also notes that a closed file can take a short time to reload after a scene change. That may look like a brief blank or interruption, but the documentation does not establish it as the cause of a particular skipped video.

For a set of videos that should play as one ordered list, check whether your setup is actually using VLC Video rather than assuming the individual Media Sources will behave like a playlist. If you intentionally use separate sources, verify which one is visible and active at each transition.
Separate OBS playback from YouTube delivery
Test the same sequence in the OBS preview and, if possible, a local recording. Write down which file is missing or out of order and whether a scene or source visibility change occurred. Then compare that output with what viewers see on YouTube. This comparison is a diagnostic method based on the separate source and ingest behaviors documented by OBS and YouTube; it does not establish a cause without evidence from your setup.

- If the preview or local recording also skips: Focus on the OBS source type, playlist entries and paths, shuffle and loop settings, file playback, and scene or source visibility.
- If local playback is correct but viewers see a problem: Check YouTube Live stream health and identify whether the stream is using RTMP or HLS before changing ingest settings.
Check HLS only if your stream uses HLS ingest
YouTube describes HLS as higher-latency than RTMP because HLS sends video in segments rather than continuously. Its HLS setup guidance specifies 1–4 second segments, TS format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. Google’s HLS delivery guide also covers media playlist ordering, segment naming, and accepted uploads.
These are requirements for the encoder-to-YouTube HLS media playlist. They do not configure or repair the local VLC Video playlist in OBS. Apply them only when HLS is the ingest protocol and investigate OBS’s local playback separately.

Common symptoms and what to check

These checks narrow the problem; they cannot establish a root cause without details such as your OBS and VLC versions, operating system, source properties, example files, local test result, and YouTube stream health or logs.
What the India-specific evidence establishes
The OBS and YouTube materials cited here describe source configuration and ingest behavior, not an India-specific failure or fix. They do not establish that a network condition, codec, hardware fault, or particular setting in India is responsible. Use the same local-versus-platform diagnostic path regardless of location rather than changing a setting based on geography alone.
