Hulu does not publish a current, dedicated definition for Error 94, so the code alone cannot identify one cause. Treat it as a playback or app-connection failure: it may involve Hulu’s service, your network, app data, login session, browser settings, or device compatibility. Start by checking whether the problem affects one title or several devices, then work through the least disruptive fixes first.
Find out whether the problem is one title, one device, or your whole connection
Before changing settings, try another Hulu title and, if possible, another device. Also open a different streaming app on the device. These checks help separate a title-specific problem from an app, network, or service issue.

These symptoms suggest where to investigate; they do not prove a particular cause. Hulu’s Help Center offers troubleshooting and live-support access, but it is not necessarily a public real-time outage dashboard.
Try these low-risk fixes first
- Try another title. If it plays, the failure may be limited to the original title rather than the whole app.
- Fully close Hulu. On iPhone or iPad, open the app switcher and swipe Hulu away. On Android, open recent apps and swipe Hulu away; if it remains stuck, use Settings > Apps > Hulu > Force stop. On Fire TV, the approximate route is Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Hulu > Force Stop. Labels differ by device. Hulu also provides instructions for fully closing the app.
- Restart the streaming device. Use the device’s actual restart command if available; a remote power button may put a TV into standby instead of restarting it. For most streaming hardware, close Hulu, unplug the device from power, wait at least 10 seconds, reconnect it, and let it finish starting before opening Hulu again. This is a restart, not a factory reset.
- Check your connection. Try another app on the same device and Hulu on another device using the same Wi-Fi. If other apps also fail, address the broader connection problem first.
- Restart the modem and router. This briefly disconnects everyone using that network. After they reconnect, try Hulu again.
- Update Hulu and the device. Install available Hulu app updates from the device’s app store, then check for operating-system or device-firmware updates. Restart after installing updates and test Hulu again.
- Sign out and back in. If the session has expired or become confused, sign out, close Hulu, restart the device, open Hulu, and sign in again. Hulu’s sign-in and sign-out help and login troubleshooting can help if you cannot sign back in. Changing your password is not necessary unless you also have a login problem or suspect unauthorized access.
- Clear cache or reinstall. Use the device-specific guidance below before removing the app.
Check the network before changing app settings
A speed-test result by itself cannot rule out a connection problem. Wi-Fi interference, brief packet loss, DNS trouble, router or ISP issues, and restricted public networks can interrupt playback even when a speed test looks fast. Hulu’s internet-connection guidance provides additional troubleshooting.

- Move the device closer to the router, or use Ethernet if available.
- Temporarily pause downloads or other heavy network use and test Hulu again.
- Try Hulu on a different network, such as a phone hotspot, if practical. If it works there but not on home Wi-Fi, focus on the home network or ISP.
- On hotel, dorm, office, or public Wi-Fi, check whether a sign-in page or network restriction is blocking streaming.
- If a VPN or proxy is active, turn it off temporarily and test Hulu. It can interfere with playback or location verification; do not use one to bypass Hulu’s regional controls.
Roku’s playback troubleshooting also recommends checking Wi-Fi, reducing network use, resetting the router, restarting Roku, and reinstalling the affected app. Avoid changing DNS settings unless simpler checks fail; any network change should be reversible.
Clear Hulu’s cache or browser data
Clearing cache removes temporary files and usually leaves the app installed. Clearing data or storage resets local app information and will usually sign you out. These controls are not available on every platform.

Android and Fire TV
The usual path is Settings > Apps or Applications > Hulu > Storage. Choose Clear cache first. If the error continues, try Clear data or Clear storage, knowing you will likely need to sign in again. Names and locations vary by model and software version. Hulu’s Help Center includes general cache and data guidance.

iOS and iPadOS do not provide a universal Hulu cache-clearing button. Force-close the app, restart the device, update Hulu, or delete and reinstall the app if necessary.

Web browsers
- Sign out of Hulu and close its open tabs.
- Clear Hulu’s cookies and cached files, preferably for the Hulu site rather than wiping all browsing data at once. See Hulu’s browser-cache instructions.
- Confirm that cookies and JavaScript are enabled using Hulu’s browser settings guidance.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers and privacy extensions, following Hulu’s ad-blocker guidance.
- Update the browser and try Hulu again. A private or incognito window can help test whether saved site data or extensions are involved, but it is not always a fix: private modes may handle cookies, DRM, or extensions differently.
- If the problem remains, test another browser supported by Hulu.
Use the steps for your device
Roku
- Restart Roku through Home > Settings > System > Power > System restart. If the Power submenu is not present, continue to the system-restart option shown on your device. Alternatively, unplug Roku for at least 10 seconds. See Roku’s restart guidance.
- To check Hulu for an update, highlight the app, press the Star button, and select Check for Updates.
- If the app still fails, highlight Hulu, press Star, choose Remove app, and confirm. Reinstall Hulu from the Roku Streaming Store. Roku lists these steps in its app playback guidance.
Fire TV
Force stop Hulu using Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Hulu > Force Stop, then relaunch it. If the menu offers cache controls, clear the cache before data. Update the app and Fire TV software; if those steps fail, reinstall Hulu. Menu labels can vary with the device version.
Android phones and tablets
Force stop Hulu, clear its cache through the app’s storage settings, update Hulu and Android, then test both Wi-Fi and cellular data if available. Clear app data or reinstall only if the less disruptive steps do not work.

iPhone and iPad
Force-close Hulu, restart the device, and install available Hulu and iOS or iPadOS updates. If Hulu still fails while other apps work, delete and reinstall Hulu; there is no equivalent universal manual cache control.
Smart TVs and game consoles
Restart the system completely, check for system and Hulu app updates, and reinstall Hulu if it fails only in the app. Confirm that the exact model and software remain supported using Hulu’s device support guidance. If the app is missing from the device’s store or the model is no longer supported, repeated reinstalls will not add support; a separate supported streaming player may be a practical way to use an older television.

Reinstall Hulu when the problem appears app-specific
Reinstalling is reasonable when Hulu continues to fail after a restart and update, other apps work, and the problem is limited to the Hulu app—or when clearing available cache or data did not help. It installs a fresh copy, but it does not guarantee a fix if the cause is the network, account, service, or device compatibility.
- Make sure you know how to sign in before removing the app.
- Uninstall Hulu from the device’s app-management controls.
- Restart the device.
- Install Hulu again from its official app store and sign in.

Know when to contact Hulu
Contact Hulu if Error 94 persists after reinstalling, appears on multiple supported devices and more than one network, or comes with trouble signing in, activating, billing, or confirming location. A problem affecting different devices and networks makes an account-side or Hulu-side issue more plausible, although it does not prove one. The Hulu Help Center says live support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
