Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Find the first place the green frames appear: in the original video, OBS, or only YouTube playback. That tells you which part of the chain to troubleshoot. Test the original file in another player, compare it with OBS preview or a local recording, then check the YouTube stream. Change one setting at a time so each comparison gives you useful evidence.
1. Find where the green frames begin
- Play the original file outside OBS. If it is already corrupted in another player, investigate the file or its decoding path before changing OBS settings.
- Check OBS preview and, if practical, make a local recording. If the original looks normal but OBS output is green, focus on the OBS source or local rendering path.
- Check the YouTube playback. If the original and OBS output look normal but YouTube playback is green, troubleshoot the viewer’s browser or device.
This sequence is a way to isolate the stage where the problem appears, not proof of a particular cause. If the issue persists, note your operating system, GPU and driver, OBS version, file container and codec, whether the video is HDR, and whether the corruption is continuous or intermittent.
2. Test OBS Media Source decoding and color range
For an OBS Media Source, open the source properties and compare playback with the hardware-decoding option enabled and disabled. OBS labels the option “Use hardware decoding when available”; it is off by default. Change only this option for each trial, and check whether the same part of the video still turns green. A change in the result is useful diagnostic evidence, but toggling decoding is not a guaranteed repair.
Also check the source’s YUV color-range setting. Compare the available settings carefully and avoid treating a color-range mismatch as the cause unless a controlled comparison changes the artifact. OBS documents Media Source support for containers including .mp4, .ts, .mov, .flv, .mkv, .avi, .gif, and .webm; support for a container alone does not establish that a particular file will decode correctly. See OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you use VLC Video
The VLC Video source uses VLC libraries and requires VLC to be installed. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. This dependency applies to VLC Video, not to the ordinary Media Source.
3. If only the YouTube player is green
When the source and OBS output look normal but the YouTube player does not, follow YouTube’s viewer-side troubleshooting instead of changing the video source first:

- Try the video in a different browser.
- In Chrome, turn off browser hardware acceleration; for other browsers, consult that browser’s own help.
- Update the graphics driver. YouTube directs PC users to their computer manufacturer’s driver site.
These steps address green playback in YouTube’s player. They will not repair green frames already present in the source file or OBS output. See YouTube Help: Green screen in video player.
4. Check HDR only if the stream is meant to be HDR
Do not switch an ordinary SDR stream to HDR settings as a general green-frame fix. YouTube’s documented HDR workflow uses HEVC. Its OBS instructions include a hardware HEVC encoder, the Main 10 profile, HDR enabled, P010 (4:2:0), and Rec. 2100 PQ or HLG. Use that path only when you intend to stream HDR and your encoder and source configuration support it. See YouTube Help: Stream HDR video on YouTube.

5. Check performance when other symptoms appear
If the stream also stutters, drops frames, or OBS reports encoding overload, check OBS performance indicators and logs. OBS’s encoding-performance guidance includes reducing frame rate among possible workload adjustments. Performance troubleshooting may help with those accompanying symptoms, but the available guidance does not establish workload as the cause of green frames specifically. See OBS Project’s Encoding Performance Troubleshooting.
6. Keep each test informative
- Record whether corruption first appears in the original, OBS, or YouTube playback.
- For OBS Media Source, compare hardware decoding on and off, then test YUV range separately.
- If only YouTube is affected, compare browsers or playback devices before changing OBS settings.
- Record whether the stream is SDR or intentionally HDR.
- Change one variable per trial and compare the same section of video.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep pre-recorded videos looping on a YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option rather than an OBS repair. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start your free day.
