Disney+ Error Code 142 means the service is having trouble connecting, but the code alone does not identify the cause. Close Disney+, restart your device, reopen the app, and try again after a few minutes—the first steps Disney recommends. If that does not work, test Disney+ on another device or network before reinstalling anything; that comparison helps separate an app problem from a Wi-Fi, account, or Disney+ service issue.
What Disney+ Error Code 142 means
Disney describes Error 142 as trouble connecting to its service. It is a broad connection error, not proof that your password is wrong, your subscription has ended, your device is damaged, or Disney+ is down. The error can appear while opening the app, signing in, or trying to play a title.

Disney lists other codes for more specific situations: Error 14 concerns an incorrect password, Error 73 indicates a location-availability issue, and Error 75 refers to the maximum number of simultaneous devices. Error 42 is a separate internet-connection error. See Disney’s error-code list for its current descriptions.
Try these quick fixes first
- Close Disney+ completely. Exit the app rather than leaving it suspended in the background.
- Restart the device. Use its restart option if available; otherwise, turn it off and back on.
- Reopen Disney+ and wait a few minutes. Disney’s Error 142 guidance recommends restarting the device, relaunching the app, and trying playback again after a few minutes.
- Try another title. If one film or episode fails but another plays, the issue may be limited to that title or its playback session.
- Test another network. If possible, switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, or try another Wi-Fi network. Do not use cellular data if your plan or signal makes that impractical.
Note what happens at each step. If Disney+ works on cellular but not your home Wi-Fi, focus on the home network. If it fails on one device but works on another using the same Wi-Fi, focus on the first device or its app.

Use the results to locate the problem
| Test result | What it points to | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Disney+ works on cellular or another Wi-Fi network, but not on your home Wi-Fi | The home network, router, DNS, filtering, VPN, or ISP connection | Restart the router, disable network filters or VPNs for a test, and check DNS settings. |
| Disney+ fails on every device using one Wi-Fi network | A network-wide issue or a temporary routing problem | Test another network, then work through the router and filtering checks below. |
| Disney+ fails on one device but works on others | The affected device, app, or its saved session | Update and restart it; then clear the app cache or reinstall if needed. |
| Only one title fails | A title-specific playback or authorization problem | Try the title on another device and report the title and error to Disney+ if it continues. |
| Disney+ fails across devices and networks | A possible Disney+ service incident or account-specific issue | Check the account through Disney’s official site and contact Disney+ support if the issue persists. |
A network test is useful because it changes one major variable at a time. If other streaming services also fail on your home Wi-Fi, your internet connection is a stronger suspect. If they work while Disney+ fails, that still does not prove an outage; app, account, routing, and service-side causes remain possible.
Fix the Disney+ app on your device
Menu names and available options vary by device and software version. Update Disney+ through the device’s official app store and install any available device software updates; no single current app or operating-system version applies to every platform.
Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, and similar devices
- Open Settings, then Apps, Applications, or Manage Installed Applications.
- Select Disney+ and choose Force stop.
- If available, choose Clear cache, then reopen the app and test playback.
- If the error remains, return to the app settings and choose Clear data or Clear storage, if offered. Sign in again.
- Update Disney+ from the device’s app store. If necessary, uninstall and reinstall it as a last app-level step.
Clearing data or reinstalling can remove your saved sign-in and may remove downloaded content. Neither step will fix a Disney+ service incident or a network-routing fault.

Samsung, LG, and other smart TVs
- Exit Disney+, then turn off the TV and unplug it briefly before reconnecting it.
- Check for TV firmware and Disney+ app updates.
- Clear the app’s data if the TV offers that option, or reinstall Disney+ if available.
- Test Disney+ on a separate streaming device or game console connected to the TV. If it works there, the TV’s app or software becomes a more likely cause.
There is no universal menu path for every television model. If Disney+ is missing from the TV’s official app store or the TV can no longer receive updates, repeated reinstalls may not help; test another supported device before considering replacement hardware.

Web browsers
- Open Disney+ in a private or incognito window and try again.
- If that works, disable extensions temporarily—especially ad, privacy, script, VPN, DNS, or security extensions—and retry in your regular window.
- Clear Disney+ cookies and site data, then sign in again.
- Try a current version of another supported browser.
- If you use device-wide filtering or security software, disable it temporarily only as a diagnostic test, then restore it.
If private browsing works, cached site data, an extension, or a browser setting is more likely than an account problem. Use Disney+ through its official site rather than an unofficial or embedded player.
Game consoles
Fully close Disney+, restart the console, and install available system and app updates. If the console has an app-management menu, use it to clear the app’s cache or reinstall Disney+ as a later step. Menu labels differ by console and software version; avoid deleting other console data while troubleshooting the streaming app.
Check your router, VPN, and DNS
Restart the modem and router
- Unplug the modem and router from power.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the modem first and wait for it to reconnect to your internet provider.
- If the router is separate, reconnect it and wait for Wi-Fi to return.
- Open Disney+ and test again.
This refreshes the local connection and can clear temporary routing or DNS behavior. It cannot repair a problem on Disney’s servers.

- To access your card information safely, type the complete website address shown on your Gift Card (MyGift.GiftCardMall.com) directly into your browser's address bar. Don't use search engines or shortened versions of the website address, as these may lead you to fake or fraudulent sites. Do not provide any Gift Card details (example: Card Number) to someone you do not know or trust. If you believe you've reached an illegitimate website, contact cardholder service at 1-888-524-1283. Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- To report your Lost or Stolen Physical Visa Card, call Customer Service 24/7 at 1 (888) 524-1283 to cancel your Gift Card as soon as you can. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
Disable VPNs, proxies, and filtering for a test
Disconnect from any VPN, turn off a proxy or Smart DNS service, and temporarily bypass network-wide filtering such as Pi-hole. Then try Disney+ on an ordinary home or cellular connection. These services can change routing or apparent location, or block an address the app needs. A VPN is not a dependable Error 142 fix and can introduce further connection or location problems; VPN-provider troubleshooting guidance also recommends testing without assuming the VPN will resolve playback (ExpressVPN’s Disney+ troubleshooting page).
School, workplace, hotel, apartment, and public networks may require a browser sign-in, restrict streaming, or filter video services. Use a network where streaming is permitted rather than weakening network protections or trying to bypass a restriction. Do not use a VPN to evade Disney+ location limits; Disney identifies location availability separately from Error 142.
Return custom DNS to automatic
- Set DNS on the device or router to Automatic.
- Restart the device and router, then test Disney+ again.
- If network-wide filtering is enabled, temporarily bypass it or allow the relevant Disney+ connections through that filter.
- Restore custom DNS only after confirming it is not causing the problem.
A different public DNS provider is not a guaranteed solution. Treat DNS changes as a reversible diagnostic, not a universal fix. If Disney+ works on cellular but not at home after these checks, contact your ISP and ask whether it can investigate connectivity or routing to Disney+.

Advanced router checks
If the alternate-network test isolates the problem to your home connection and basic checks have not helped, review router parental controls, firewall rules, and firmware updates. An experienced user can test whether IPv6 is involved by disabling it temporarily, then restoring the original setting if there is no improvement. Do not permanently weaken firewall protection or leave security features disabled as a workaround.
Check your Disney+ sign-in and account
- Sign out of Disney+ on the affected device, then sign back in.
- Try signing in through the official Disney+ website. If web sign-in also fails, follow the message shown there rather than repeatedly changing settings in the app.
- Verify that the subscription is active through the official account page, particularly if the service reports an account or billing issue.
- Try another profile, and test the same account on another device.
Error 142 by itself is not evidence that your account is canceled, banned, or over its device limit. Avoid repeated password changes unless Disney reports a password problem; Disney lists password, location, simultaneous-device, and suspicious-activity issues under separate error codes.
When to contact Disney+ support
Contact Disney+ if Error 142 continues after you restart the device and app, test another title and network, and check the account—or if the error appears across multiple devices and networks while other services work. Escalate sooner if the official website reports a billing, sign-in, suspicious-activity, or location issue. Disney’s U.S. Help Center advertises live support 24 hours a day, seven days a week; availability may differ by market, so check the Help Center for your location.
