If Crunchyroll’s fullscreen button is failing, start with the fix for your device: on Android, reduce Screen Zoom and restore the default font; on iPhone or iPad, try setting playback quality to 1080p or 720p. In a desktop browser, test a private window, disable extensions, clear Crunchyroll site data, and check for DRM errors. If the video is also black, buffering, or failing to load, troubleshoot playback or the network rather than fullscreen alone.
First, identify what is failing
Try the same episode on another device or browser if one is available. That quick comparison helps separate a device or browser problem from an episode-specific or wider playback issue.
- Fullscreen button is missing or does nothing: start with the device-specific steps below. In a browser, extensions or site data can interfere with playback controls.
- Fullscreen opens and immediately closes: restart the app or browser, then test without extensions if you are watching on the web.
- Video turns black or shows an error: treat this as a playback or protected-content problem; see the DRM section.
- Only controls or subtitles are misplaced: on Android, check display scaling and font settings.
- The app is frozen or crashing: force-close it, update it, and restart the device.
- Only one episode or title is affected: test another episode and version, such as a different subtitle or dub option. A title-specific playback or regional availability issue is more plausible than a general fullscreen setting.

Fix Crunchyroll fullscreen on Android
Crunchyroll recommends testing the device’s display scaling and font. Menu names vary by manufacturer and Android version; if the exact labels differ, look for Display size, Screen zoom, or font settings.

- Open the Crunchyroll app and play an episode.
- Open Android Settings > Display > Screen Zoom.
- Move the Screen Zoom slider to a smaller scale, then return to Crunchyroll and test fullscreen.
- If it still fails, open Settings > Display > Font and Style.
- Under Font Style, select Default, reopen Crunchyroll, and test again.
These are Crunchyroll’s recommended Android checks, not proof of a universal Android fault. Oversized text, accessibility settings, or a manufacturer’s display overlay may also affect how controls appear, but those are diagnostic possibilities rather than confirmed causes. Fix Crunchyroll fullscreen on iPhone or iPad
Crunchyroll suggests changing video quality as a fullscreen test on iOS. It is not a promise that lower quality will fix every device, and the menu layout can vary by app version and between iPhone and iPad.
- Play an episode in the Crunchyroll app.
- Tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the player.
- Open Quality and select 1080p or 720p.
- Return to the video and try fullscreen again.
If one setting works, you can later test your preferred quality. If the Quality menu is missing or the steps do not match your app, update Crunchyroll and iOS or iPadOS before assuming the feature is unavailable. Crunchyroll’s iOS fullscreen steps

Fix Crunchyroll fullscreen in a desktop browser
Follow this order so you can isolate browser-profile problems before making broader changes. Crunchyroll lists hard refreshes, browser restarts, private browsing, extension checks, cache and cookie clearing, browser updates, and switching browsers among its web playback troubleshooting steps.
- Hard-refresh the episode page. On Windows, press
Ctrl + F5; on Mac, pressShift + Command + R. Play the episode again and test fullscreen. - Restart the browser. Close it completely, reopen it, sign in if needed, and reload the episode. This is a useful first test if the player stopped responding after changing tabs or episodes.
- Try a private or incognito window. Open Crunchyroll there and play the same episode. If fullscreen works, an extension, cached data, or a browser-profile setting is a likely lead.
- Disable extensions temporarily. Test with ad blockers, script or pop-up blockers, privacy tools, VPN or proxy extensions, and video or subtitle enhancements turned off. Refresh the page after each change. If that restores fullscreen, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify the conflict. Disable only what you need for the test and restore your protection afterward.
- Clear Crunchyroll’s cache and cookies. Then restart the browser, sign in again, and retest. Clearing cookies can sign you out and remove site preferences, so use this after the quicker tests.
- Update or switch browsers. Crunchyroll’s browser-support page listed the minimum versions below when checked in August 2026. Requirements can change; consult the linked page for current guidance.

If another supported browser works, focus further troubleshooting on the first browser’s extensions, site data, updates, or protected-content settings. If the video is black or shows a DRM error
A black screen or a message such as MED, SHAK-6*-GENERIC, or SHAK-6*DRM points to playback or protected-content handling, not necessarily to the fullscreen control. Try an updated browser, turn off extensions, VPNs, and proxies for the test, and make sure protected content is enabled if your browser requires it.

Fix fullscreen in the app, on a TV, or on a console
For a Crunchyroll app on a smart TV, streaming device, or console, use the general device-recovery sequence. A device restart and software update are more appropriate than changing browser settings when there is no browser involved.
- Force-close Crunchyroll and reopen it.
- Install available Crunchyroll app and device system or firmware updates.
- Restart the TV, console, or streaming device. For a device that can safely be unplugged, disconnect power for about 30 seconds before reconnecting.
- If the app still misbehaves, reinstall it and sign in again. Offline downloads may need to be restored.
- Test another episode or another device to determine whether the problem follows the title or the device.

If playback also buffers, freezes, or will not load
When the episode itself is failing, isolate the app, network, and device before changing DNS or display settings.
- Switch temporarily between Wi-Fi and mobile data, where available, and test the same episode.
- Log out of Crunchyroll and back in to refresh the app session.
- Close background apps or downloads, then force-close and reopen Crunchyroll.
- Restart the device and update the app and operating system.
- If the problem continues, reinstall the app and test another device or network.
A router restart is reasonable when several devices on the same connection have playback trouble. DNS is a later diagnostic for persistent loading, buffering, or network-dependent playback—not a first response to a fullscreen button that simply does nothing.

When to contact Crunchyroll Support
Stop changing settings once you have tested the relevant device-specific steps, a second browser or device where possible, and another title or episode. If fullscreen still fails across devices, or only one title consistently fails, send Support details that help distinguish a device issue from an episode, account, regional, or DRM problem:
- Device model and operating-system version
- Crunchyroll app version, or browser name and version
- Your country or region
- Series, episode, and subtitle or dub version
- The exact error text or code, if shown
- Whether another browser, device, network, or title works
- The troubleshooting steps you already tried

VPNs and regional availability
Crunchyroll says VPN use is unsupported and may contribute to latency, compatibility, playback, quality, or login problems. Turn off a VPN or proxy while troubleshooting. If a title is unavailable in your region, changing DNS or using a VPN is not a legitimate fix for its licensing availability.
