First identify whether the mismatch is a steady offset, growing drift, intermittent stutter, or a problem only some viewers hear. Then correct the affected source or device—not YouTube’s overall latency setting unless playback buffering is the issue—and verify the result on the delivered YouTube stream for long enough to reproduce the problem.
Diagnose what kind of sync problem you have
Use a visible action paired with a sharp sound, such as a hand clap, and compare several moments. Note whether the error is present immediately, stays about the same, grows over time, or appears only intermittently. If possible, compare an OBS recording with the YouTube playback: this helps distinguish a problem already present in the source or OBS from one that appears during delivery or playback. This comparison is a practical diagnostic method, not a platform-prescribed test protocol.
- Steady offset: the same sound consistently leads or trails its matching picture.
- Growing drift: audio and video begin aligned, then separate progressively.
- Intermittent stutter or missing frames: suspect capture buffering, network stability, or playback before applying a fixed sync correction.
- Viewer-specific trouble: if the stream looks and sounds aligned for others, check the affected viewer’s device, network, and player before changing the broadcast sources.
Write down when the issue begins and where it first appears: source, OBS preview or recording, YouTube playback, or only certain viewers. That observation determines which fix to try.
Correct a steady offset at the affected source
Change the timing of the source that is early, and leave unrelated sources alone. Applying one arbitrary adjustment to every input can make correctly timed microphones, camera audio, media, or capture devices worse.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Sound arrives before its matching picture: delay the audio source by a measured amount.
- Picture arrives before its matching sound: add OBS’s Render Delay filter to the relevant video source. OBS documents it as a way to delay source rendering, including for syncing a webcam image with microphone audio.
Adjust in small, measured steps and repeat the same clap or movement test. The OBS documentation cited here explains Render Delay; exact audio sync-offset menu directions are not covered by the linked official guidance.
Investigate drift that increases over time
A fixed offset can correct a stable difference, but it cannot fix a mismatch that keeps changing. Check whether audio and video come from separate devices, whether a capture device is buffering, and whether the same drift appears in an OBS recording as well as YouTube playback.

Test device timestamps where available
OBS has a Windows-only Use Device Timestamps option for audio input and output capture. OBS describes it as an attempt to use device timing to prevent desynchronization; the cited guide says its default is Off. Test it with the device in question rather than enabling it indiscriminately, then run a sustained check.
Test capture buffering one setting at a time
OBS’s video capture source guidance describes buffering controls whose effects depend on the source and operating system. Disabling buffering may help when a device is delayed; enabling it may help when playback stutters. Change one setting at a time and check both sync and smoothness. Less buffering can reduce delay on one device but expose stutter on another.

Separate source sync from network and viewer playback
Check OBS’s dropped-frame counters and YouTube’s stream-health warnings before changing source offsets. OBS identifies dropped frames as a connection-stability or bitrate-capacity problem and provides connection troubleshooting guidance. YouTube’s stream health messages can also flag configuration issues. These symptoms call for delivery or configuration diagnosis, not an arbitrary audio delay.
YouTube defines live-stream latency as the delay from camera capture to viewer playback. That is separate from a source-level lip-sync error. YouTube explains that lower latency means less read-ahead buffer for the player, which can make buffering more likely; network congestion can also delay playback. See YouTube’s live-stream latency guidance.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Latency choices involve a tradeoff: lower latency can suit interaction but reduces read-ahead and may increase buffering, while normal latency is positioned for non-interactive streams and offers the highest quality setting in terms of lower viewer buffering. Webcam and mobile streams do not offer the same latency selection. A latency change can affect end-to-end delay and playback robustness, but it is not a direct cure when an audio track consistently leads or trails its matching video.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verify the fix on a representative, sustained test
- Use a private or unlisted test if your channel setup permits. Match the production camera, microphone, capture card, media, frame rate, and scene composition.
- Include representative sound and movement. YouTube recommends tests that resemble the intended stream and advises monitoring stream health. OBS also recommends testing before going live; its Quick Start Guide suggests testing settings for a few minutes.
- Watch the delivered YouTube playback. A local preview alone cannot confirm what viewers receive.
- Continue through the usual onset period. For a 24/7 stream, extend the test long enough to see whether the original drift or stutter returns. This duration is practical advice, not a published YouTube or OBS requirement.
- Record the result. Note the offset or device setting changed, how long you tested, and whether YouTube playback stayed aligned.
Avoid changing the source offset, latency mode, capture buffering, and bitrate at the same time. One change per test makes it possible to tell which correction worked.

Common causes and fixes
| What you observe | Likely area to investigate | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The same sound-picture gap is present from the start | Timing of one source | Delay only the early source, then repeat the clap test. |
| The gap grows as the stream runs | Device timing or capture behavior | Check separate devices, test Windows device timestamps if applicable, and evaluate capture buffering one setting at a time. |
| Sync breaks up along with dropped frames | Connection stability or bitrate capacity | Review OBS dropped frames and connection troubleshooting; inspect YouTube stream health. |
| Only one viewer reports buffering or apparent sync trouble | That viewer’s network, device, or player | Compare playback from another location or device before changing source timing. |
| Lower latency makes playback less steady | Reduced player read-ahead buffer | Choose latency to fit the stream’s interaction needs; do not treat it as a source lip-sync adjustment. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your 24/7 stream uses uploaded recordings or a playlist, StreamNeo can keep the YouTube broadcast running from the cloud: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing needs to stay on at home. It plays uploads rather than going live from a camera, so it is not a fix for a camera or capture-device timing fault you have not diagnosed.
- Each slot streams the uploaded quality as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encode.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start your free day.
