There is no verified, legitimate way to download episodes directly from 9Anime. Sites using that name or related successor brands can be difficult to authenticate, and their download buttons may lead to deceptive pages or unwanted software. For offline viewing, use a licensed streaming service’s official app; its downloads are usually temporary and cannot be exported as ordinary video files.
What does “9Anime” refer to now?
“9Anime” may mean the historical brand, AniWave (associated with the former 9Anime identity), HiAnime, another successor, or a clone using a familiar name. A domain, search result, social post, or browser extension claiming to be an official mirror is not proof that it is operated by the original service or authorized to offer its videos.
The status of these sites is especially uncertain. TorrentFreak reported that HiAnime domains displayed a goodbye message on March 13, 2026, and subsequent reporting described the site as offline. That does not establish the status or legitimacy of every site using a 9Anime-related name; it is a reason not to rely on purported mirrors.

There is no trustworthy official support documentation establishing a legitimate 9Anime offline-download feature. A button labelled “Download” on an unofficial streaming page might redirect you, open deceptive ads, prompt you to install an extension or executable, or send you to a stream-ripping service. Do not use third-party downloaders, browser extensions, developer-tools tricks, screen recording, or other methods to extract or capture streams.

Copyright and terms: why the distinction matters
Anime episodes are generally copyrighted audiovisual works. Whether a particular copy or download infringes copyright depends on factors such as authorization, the user’s conduct, and the applicable jurisdiction; personal use is not a universal exemption. A service’s terms may also prohibit copying or stream capture independently of copyright law. This is general information, not legal advice.
For example, Crunchyroll’s terms prohibit unauthorized copying, recording, downloading, stream capture, and DRM circumvention. Its own offline feature is licensed, app-managed access—not permission to make a freely transferable video file.
How to download anime for offline viewing legally
Crunchyroll documents offline viewing in its Android and iOS apps and Nintendo Switch app. The specific title, account plan, region, and device can affect whether the feature is available. Check the service’s current plan details and title availability for your location before subscribing.

Android, iPhone, and iPad
- Install the official Crunchyroll app from your device’s app store and sign in with an eligible account.
- Open the series. Tap the Download icon beside an episode, or choose Download All if that option appears.
- To watch, open My Lists → Downloads.
- If storage or bandwidth is limited, adjust download quality in the app’s download settings. Lower quality uses less storage and typically downloads faster.
Use Wi-Fi unless you intend to download over cellular data and have enabled that option. See Crunchyroll’s offline-download instructions for current app details.
Nintendo Switch
- Open the Crunchyroll app and select an episode.
- Press X, then select Download Episode.
- Find completed downloads under App Menu → Downloads.
This Switch workflow does not mean that offline downloads are available in every Crunchyroll app. The service’s documented feature is available on mobile devices and Nintendo Switch, not PC.
What an official download does—and does not—give you
Offline episodes are normally playable only inside the authorized app. They are not ordinary MP4 files for copying to a USB drive, editing, or keeping as a permanent archive. Crunchyroll says unplayed downloads typically expire after about seven days; after playback starts, they typically expire about 48 hours later. Exact access can vary by title, account, region, device, and licensing status.

If the Download button is missing
That does not necessarily mean the app is broken. The episode may not be licensed for offline viewing, may be unavailable in your region, or may have a title-specific restriction. The feature can also depend on your plan, device, app version, operating system, and available storage. Confirm that you are signed in to an eligible account, using a supported device and the current app. Check the service’s help page or support team for the particular title rather than trying to bypass regional or device restrictions.
Crunchyroll download troubleshooting
If an official download fails, work through these steps:

- Update the app and your device’s operating system.
- Check that the device has enough free storage.
- Retry the download; if it still fails, choose a lower quality such as Medium or Low.
- Try downloading one episode at a time instead of a batch.
- Restart the device.
- Try a stable Wi-Fi connection or, if appropriate, mobile data.
- If you use a VPN or proxy, turn it off temporarily to see whether it is interfering with regional access or playback.
- If the problem persists, contact the service’s official support team.
These steps reflect Crunchyroll’s download troubleshooting guidance. A VPN is not inherently illegal, but using one to get around a service’s regional licensing restrictions may violate its terms or cause access problems.

Why third-party download buttons and extensions are risky
Unofficial streaming sites and lookalike domains can mix video links with pop-ups, fake browser notifications, phishing pages, malicious extensions, or misleading “HD player” installers. Not every ad or pop-up is malware, but it can be difficult to distinguish a deceptive prompt from a legitimate control in that environment. An extension that claims to unlock downloads can also expose browsing data or account credentials.
If you installed an extension from a suspicious page, uninstall it unless it is an official extension from the service and a trusted app store. If you entered a password on a suspicious site, change it—especially anywhere you reused it—enable two-factor authentication where available, review account sessions, and run a reputable security scan. Do not install an executable offered as a video player.
