The easiest way to read along is Spotify’s built-in lyrics view: on a phone or tablet, play a song, open Now Playing, then swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Available lyrics scroll in time with the music. The feature is available to Free and Premium users, though lyrics are not offered for every track, device, or market.
Show full lyrics on a phone or tablet
-
Start playing a song in Spotify.
-
Open the Now Playing screen by tapping the song bar at the bottom of the app.
-
Swipe up from the bottom of Now Playing to reveal the lyrics. When lyrics are available, Spotify displays them and scrolls line by line as the song plays, according to its September 15, 2025 mobile walkthrough.
If you only want an occasional glance rather than the full lyrics view, Spotify can show a lyrics preview beneath the album artwork or over a short Canvas clip. In Now Playing, open the menu and choose Lyrics to show or hide the preview. Spotify says previews are on by default and are not available on music videos.

Find lyrics on desktop or in the web player
Spotify’s November 18, 2021 desktop instructions say to select the microphone icon in the Now Playing bar while a song is playing. That guidance describes an older interface, so the icon’s placement or appearance may have changed. Spotify currently lists desktop and web player among the surfaces that support lyrics, but controls can differ between versions; look for the lyrics control in Now Playing.
What to know when lyrics are missing
-
Premium is not required. Spotify says lyrics are available to Free and Premium users, so a missing display alone does not indicate that an account needs an upgrade.

Keep lyrics visible while doing something else
The built-in lyrics screen is the simplest option when Spotify is in the foreground. On Windows, the Lyripop project describes a floating, always-on-top Spotify mini-player with synced lyrics. It is a third-party hobby project, not a Spotify feature; its documented setup requires a personal Spotify developer app and uses LRCLIB for synced lyrics. Its compatibility, operation, and requirements may change, so review the project’s current documentation before deciding whether to use it. Spotify’s official mobile lyric preview is a lower-setup way to glance at words in the playback screen, but it is not a floating desktop window.
If you listen from a desk, an adjustable phone stand may make the mobile screen easier to glance at. It is optional: Spotify’s lyrics feature needs no accessory.
